I will take up 2 points of view now.
Some feel that Jalal has shown his concern for Jodha over the past 2 days and will safeguard her reputation. Some feel that he may publicly protect her from humiliation but will privately humiliate her himself. (The classic "I will save you from the world, but who will save you from me"?)

I am inclined towards the latter view because of the promo of his marriage with Atifa being announced. If he is really much in love with Jodha at the moment (please note - at the moment - I am not talking of the long term but short term) then why will he announce his marriage with Atifa and cut short Jodha's objections?

In fact, someone mentioned that Jalal seems to be more concerned about how his people will perceive the whole incident rather than worried about Jodha.

This may be quite true. He may be just concerned about his own image and the izzat of the Mughal sultanat. I still remember his dialogs when he had saved Jodha from a suicide attempt. Much water has flowed under the bridge since then. But still, notions of izzat do not disappear so easily.

He may be just feeling a bit guilty also about being responsible for the whole mess in which Jodha and he are now stuck.

Love will surface but not yet. Still early days for that. First, the Atifa mystery has to be revealed. Then Jalal will be free to devote his attentions to Jodha again.😊

radhika when will jodha stop breaking the rules
she also has a pattern of always breaking the rules
here she first made jalal retract his words
he made him take his order back in front all the awaam
she made him seem a fool in front of the people
she did not care for his reputation and honour
then she went to meet him in the night
she made him free and then she went with him quietly
without making much of a fuss
she saved him from the villagers
she stayed in the same room
is this all what a proud rajvanshi does ?
jalal was called so many names in the forum
but whatever jodha does is all correct
would she be able to do all this at amer ?
bharmal would have scolded her head off
just as jalal pampers her and loved her so much
she continues to break the rules always
in TM case too TM was about to die for her
now in this case so many people dies for her
she is responsible for their death
is this her kartavya ? to kill so mane to save one person ?

I now come to Jodha's behavior.
I am deeply distressed by Jodha's portrayal. 😕 I didn't think the CVs could outdo their butchering of Akbar's character. I was wrong. Their massacre of Jodha's character in this track is even beyond what they have done with Jalal in this entire show.

Agree with Abhay that the real queen would not have let anyone touch even her shadow.

But leaving the real people aside, even the reel Jodha has always maintained her dignity and never let anyone come close. Once Mirza Hakim had pulled her away from a snake and she had strongly objected to his touching her.

So just as there is no justification for Jalal to rage against Jodha, there is no justification to show Jodha forgetting her innate propriety and travelling with a monster. She is kind and compassionate but she is also a person who strongly believes in keeping her chastity and virtue intact. If need be, she will kill herself but not remain in the company of a strange man.

Going back a bit.

Why was Jodha kidnapped the first time?

  • To save Jalal from the blood-sniffing Khyber.
  • To turn Jalal against Khyber.
  • To make Khyber fall for Jodha.
  • To make Jodha sympathetic and grateful to Khyber.
Why was Jodha kidnapped the second time?

  • To salvage Jalal's image after many people complained about his behavior towards Jodha to Zee.
  • To (deliberately) reduce the goodness quotient of Jodha and bring her down to the same level as Jalal had been brought earlier (inadvertently).
  • To finish off Khyber's role.
  • To make way for Jalal-Atifa marriage and ensure that no one from his people or from the audience objects to it or sympathizes with Jodha unduly.
Jodha's attempted suicide

In a momentary weakness, Jodha decided to end it all at once.

But, there was a build-up to the attempt, it wasn't an impulse:
  • Jalal's abrupt change in behavior with no apparent reason
  • Jalal's fascination for Atifa
  • Pregnancy-related depression / stress
  • A feeling of being utterly alone with no companionship
What is intriguing is the lack of concern from not only Jalal (let's accept he has been butchered) but also from Hamida, Salima, Nigar, and other royal ladies, including Jalal's other begums.

Like Maddy said, it's natural to feel the pinch when Jodha compares her own state with Ruq's during her fake pregnancy. Everyone was fussing over her. Jodha was assigned to be with her as much as possible and ensure her safety and well-being. Now she sees how she is being treated as if there's nothing special. It's human to feel low. Esp if there is no one to share your innermost thoughts and feelings with.

Comparing Jodha's suicide bid and Ruq's suicide bid in war track

When Ruq was contemplating suicide in the war track, she had given up hope of Jalal being alive. She didn't want to fall into enemy hands. So she prepared herself for the Mughal equivalent of Jauhar - drinking poison.

At that time, Jodha came forward to reassure her that Jalal would return safely and Ruq should wait patiently for him and, in the meantime, keep herself safe from the enemy by adopting the "aggression is the best defence" strategy. Jodha was able to convince the royal ladies that they need not be unduly depressed and everything will be alright soon.

Ruq's suicide bid just shows that anyone can be depressed at some point in time and wish to end their life rather than fight their circumstances. But if someone steps up to them at that moment and fills them with hope and optimism, then the person can be brought back from the brink.

Likewise, Jodha too felt overwhelmed by her situation and wanted to finish her life. This is so poignant. At that moment, she was so alone in that whole palace. Even though she had been friend and supporter to so many there, there was none to counsel her and fill her cup of hope. What Khyber realized should have been realized by someone from her family.

@ bold:

All of us would stand up for Jalal or Jodha whenever their love is questioned. That's why we are still here, in spite of the illogical story and the tedhe medhe twists. 😊

Jodha's love has been questioned innumerable times in the past. Even now some people are questioning her love for Jalal because she has been shown to behave in an extremely uncharacteristic manner with Khyber. So please do not feel ever that Jodha's love is not questioned.

In fact, I would say that her love is always questioned but Jalal's is accepted more easily. 😊

My views inline in blue. 😊

Fictional jalal
Fictional jalal was a ruqaiah loyalist husband till jodha came along. He may have had 20-30 wives but he was emotionally bond with ruqaiah. then came jodha and he became emotionally attached to her and more than that only as jodha is not assertive and possessive like ruqaiah of jalal and her audha. She is typical people pleasing person.
Now whether jalal loved Benazir, atifa or was using them I do not know. But all I know is that he does not truly love them he does not have emotional bonding like he has with ruqaiah or soul bonding like jodha

Yes. I agree, Jalal can never truly love anyone except Jodha. He cannot even bond like a friend with anyone else like he bonds with Ruq and Salima.
History jalal
In those days king married to expand kingdom and to keep people loyal. that is what Akbar did but on a large scale basis.
Whether he treated muz badly- not really but he is king with 300 wives he must have had a few favourites among whom muz was one and so was ruqaiah and salima.
Did he only love muz and ignore others- not really he treated all wives nicely but had favourites

That's the whole point. Akbar may have a harem. But he treated all queens with respect. He didn't humiliate them in the DEK like being shown in the serial.
Can we compare that 16th century Akbar to serial Akbar- not really, love had different meaning in those times
Men were not single woman husbands in those times especially kings. They had many wives and few of them were his favourites simple
In those days men married for loyalty, property and kids
Very few married only for love like a jehangir to widow nur jahan, shah jahan to mumtaz, baz bahadur to roopmati etc
The two Mughal examples you have quoted here are highly debatable in my humble personal opinion. But I do vouch for Baz Bahadur - Roopmati. We cannot say that Akbar didn't love Jodha just because he had a harem. Even Shah Jahan married even after Mumtaz died. Jahangir was more of a puppet than the kind of strong emperor Akbar was and the kind of TE we expect Jalal to be. I will quote the example of Khusrau - there was a man devoted to his wife if ever there was one. 😊

On a lighter note, seeing how much you love the Jahangir-Nur Jahan story, I am sure, you will be happy with the proposed 15-year leap. 😊

Wow, two fantastic posts in one thread, yours and Abhay. I am sorry to say, you are hindering my de-addiction efforts from Jodha Akbar. With such beautiful posts to ponder and comment upon, how can anyone think of leaving.

As for the depiction of Jodha and Akbar, like most I think it is a problem of Ability. These CV's simply don't have the creative horsepower to present events from Akbar's long and eventful life, things like Sati abolition, like Akbar's war with Rajputana states, like Todar Mal's rehaul of the revenue system, like Akbar's pilgrimage to the many saints of that era etc.

They are so many things one can show, instead the CV's take the easy way out, they introduce imaginary characters and ridiculous situations, which have absolutely nothing to do with history. When the depiction of a character needs a subtle approach, they go the sledgehammer way totally destroying the essence of the character.

Maybe, that is the problem. Maybe Ekta and the CV's have no understanding of history, of the sacredness of certain aspects of depiction.

Maybe a big leap is not a bad idea, these CV's will never do justice to Akbar and Jodha. Perhaps after the leap, these two will escape their attentions, and Salim will get the full treatment.

Thank you, Donjas! 😊

Akbar reigned for almost 50 years. His period was the most significant one in the Mughal history, as it focused on consolidating and expanding the empire and introduced many reforms in various spheres of administration. There were so many wars. There was so much happening in terms of religious/cultural fusion. There was so much happening in his personal life.

Why, if the CVs simply took the events as they happened and showed them in a dramatized manner, the show could easily run for 3 years.

But they have taken the most respected historical figures and reduced them to a travesty of their legendary stature. It's not just unbearable TV, it's a sacrilegious act against Akbar and Heer Kunwar, against history and against our culture. 😕

I don't agree with the treatment of Jodha either, but I do not think Jalal is playing with Jodha's love. He still loves her . Atifa is just part of his plan.It just that things went beyond Jalal's control . Even though , I am not a big fan of Jodha's treatment on some level, but Jodha does a tight whack. It's one thing to spare life, but another to run to rescue a foreign man in the middle of night . Does the Jodha realize the repercussions of her spending night with Khyber. It's one thing to be kind but the extreme measure Jodha has taken is too far.Jalal will defend her publicly and trusts her no doubt. On top of it, she was running after him holding his hand. She is a queen not an ordinary woman.

You have given your own answer, Birdiee. The track has been poorly executed. Both leads have been reduced to horrifying caricatures.

Jalal loves Jodha, but he takes her for granted. Like someone said here, Jodha is a people pleasing type. He feels she will never complain, no matter how he treats her.

Do you believe he would have behaved in the same manner with Ruq if Ruq had been pregnant?

Another angle. In the Sujamal track, we were so upset with Jodha for not telling the truth about Sujamal to Jalal. At least at that time, she had taken a vachan to stay mum.

Looking at Jalal now, if he has a plan, what is stopping him from telling at least briefly about it to Jodha? Then Jalal had been so tortured feeling why Jodha didn't consider him as her friend and didn't confide in him. Since he knows the pain one goes through when one''s partner is hiding something, he should have disclosed something to Jodha. If we understood his pain then, we should understand Jodha's pain now.

I don't make bashing posts. Even those who disagree with me will agree that I do not deliberately bash anyone. I have supported Jalal when he has been right and Jodha when she has been right. Please do see my earlier posts.

I have covered the points you have raised in the common responses I have posted.😊

I just want to say one thing. These are not totally fictional characters. These were real historical people. So let's not dwell too much on aspects like Jodha changed clothes in front of Khyber or how Jalal flirted with Atifa. Though fact is she sent him away before changing. Even if the CVs have no respect, we can show these legends respect by ignoring the crass stuff.

I do not approve of either the way Jalal has been shown insulting Jodha nor the way Jodha has been shown with another man.

Not really I have posted before on your thread on some topic cannot recall now
My criteria of love is when a person stops marrying another atleast till his lovers death so that is why I gave jehangir and shah jahan criteria, otherwise I know these all Mughal emperors are not lovers by today's standards.
Jehangir remained a pampered ziddi child who never grew up all life because of extra love by parents and grand mother so yes rather than a puppet he just handed kingdom ruling to shah jahan and nur jahan and enjoyed life in hobby like flowers and animals and star gazing
Shah jahan first mourned badly for mumtaz then went ballistic marrying many women. He went from one woman man to womanizer
But like that khusrau, babar and dara sikoh were better husbands to their wives
There is no jehangir-nur jahan they are showing salim-anarkali story here- I prefer watching Mughal-e-azam for that and for jehangir-nur jahan I prefer Nur Jahan serial on DD on youtube. I am just watching JA out of habit otherwise they have spoiled it so much I do not feel any respect for both charcaters as king and queen
