Jokes apart, imho, the primary reason for TV serials in India starting with a bang n then going astray, is

"NO BOUND SCRIPT"

The trps clearly dictate the length of roles of characters, of tracks, of sub plots, of plots, etc...We saw a classic example most recently how TM was humiliated bec the channel wanted to fit in "Naari Shakti"...

Other reasons, for JA going wrong, according to me are:

1) mainly women watch daily teleshows, n have huge appetites for saas bahu melodramas
2) Most women audiences adore the ultra feminist, always right, always bhaashaning heroine...
3)Paridhi's discomfort for romantic scenes, which was initially the USP of the show...romance is an eyesore of late in JA...of course, even the cvs r to be blamed along with PS for this for writing rank bad scenes...
4)An emerging universal trend, which I find very disturbing...villains n negativity are being increasingly accepted by all...be it shows n films or be it video games for kids, where they root for the villain to win...a reputed actor like Salman glorified corruption in Dabangg. ...Saif lootofies insurance companies in Race 1 & 2 n both films r super hits...many more examples...see the villains thriving in JA...they command promos, as against Akbar when he was given the title...think about it...

Very aptly written.👏

Rashmi not just the actors, I think we as an audience en masse shd also voice our dissatisfaction - Why shd we subject ourselves to such tripe saying we cannot bring about any change and yeh toh aisa hi rahega??? Why shd we take any crap that these unprincipled PHs dish out and help them make money at our expense??? As a paying audience we have a rt to demand respect from the PHs and the Channels and we shd not let them disrespect us.

So u can assume who was pinched on his teda panti in ratanpur durg issue and now who probably doing dandia on this blasphemy of Akbar

Although I agree about the rationale RAM gave, the thing is he is now also doing Bollywood. He can throw his weight around. Telly stars today are one serial wonders ( at best they are aligned to PH) so they are not as likely to have a significant say in the characterisation (except when you are talking of icons like Mr. Bacchan)

@ Adi, crude as it may sound but when it's your money on the line I doubt any of the PHs or channels will be willing to take a risk. Colours did that with shows like 24 but the season concept failed to take off in India. People have short attention spans and shorter loyalty spans when it comes to daily soaps.

honestly i dont believe tht showing a strong male lead will effect the TRPs. even in a totally woman oriented show male can be shown strong & TRP audience wont mind tht. for eg. in this track jodha's war could have been shown even without degrading jalal. if woman war is going to fetch higher TRPs it will get TRPs even without jalal's torture. i think this is a big misconception of the makers tht strong woman means weak male. its true tht TRP audience loves to see women dominating, but i dont think for tht they demand for male character degradation. TRPs were also high till tasneem track when both were shown equal. shows like QH, mahadev, do dil bandhe ek dor se, sasural genda phul & even EK's other show like ye hain mohabbatein had worked. so 1st of all the makers have to come out of tht misconception. 2ndly, the major drawback of this show is the romance department. initially this show had promised a passionate love story & it started off very well but now romance is just a dream. at least other shows romantic scenes can be shown freely, but here akdha scenes had only reduced to lectures, lep, hunars, praises, crying, saying srry & the list continues. evrything is there except romance. 3rdly, i think protests of the karni sena is a big reason as well. a weak jalal will always make them happy.

Much as we try and dissect it, Akbar's character here is still part of the Indian television industry and this industry primarily caters to a female audience. Unlike us, who are here to gain some interesting perspectives on history (with entertaining spins on the tale itself) - others like twists and drama - plotting against leads that the heroine unfolds and untangles!

The top 5 serials have prominent female leads taking charge of the serial - the men have little role in them, especially after the leads' SR is done and dusted with 😆
The men are hardly required after that as their role as romance-makers is done. It's then time for these male leads to hand over the reigns to the females so the usual SB saga can go on and on!

Sandhya/Bhabho are ALWAYS in the limelight - Suraj is still someone who's become backdrop material (the first year wasn't so)
Gopi bahu/Kokila are ALWAYS in the limelight - Ahem is someone in the backdrop
Akshara possibly enjoys twice the screen space and dialogues as Naithik (though Naithik-Akshara's romance is still on every now and again). Yet, all we see Naithik do is step out of the house with a briefcase in the morning and return in the evening for chai-pakoda😆
The list goes on and on...

JA has also joined this list, that's all! While Jalal's role might not become as bad as Ahem's, it definitely is no greater than a Naithik's at this stage...

Other historicals like MP and Buddha where this is not the case don't enjoy such TRPs. 😊

Ektha has famously (or infamously) said - Ladies are eye-candy in the movie industry and men are eye-candy in the TV industry!

Perfect answer. 👏

This was the reasoning even across the border until Hum TV came along and changed the rules of the game - they started with 'Hum Safar' and they have never looked back - One has to find the best mix and optimize - it cannot be a choice between creativity and the bottom line - there has to be a good mix of both - yes it will not happen in an instance but it is not impossible - in fact nothing is impossible.

What shocked me was that The cvs shouldn't have brought that Rajwanshi Shaan in a simple argument btw hubby and wife regarding pregnancy news. She could have just said that I understand why are you upset but I did what I thought in the best interests. Why so much counter attack again from her.
This is like showing that the gr8 King and his queen loved having arguments only.

Adi,it is the greed of milking more and more like the case of the golden goose...when it started laying golden eggs ,they killed the bird in order to get richer quickly...

JA is not meant to be a daily soap...it should have been finite episodes and only then a tight bound script would have worked and they could have concluded the show on high...but no...they want more and more and hence the butchering has started...as long as they get the numbers they do not care about the historical or their own responsibility towards it...today the Akbar we see on screen is no better than her mihir virani or anurag or om or the many other male characters who have the role of decorated cover to pull in audience

it is so embarrassing to even watch the show that even RT was not able to make me sit through this ...

i am all for women power and love to see a strong female onscreen...but not at the cost of the male lead...and most definitely not at the cost of the Akbar the great ..the man whom history remembers as a great warrior,Emperor and more...

forget his qualities they said it was a love story...neither i see love nor i see a story ...it is like they get up and pull out old scripts from archive and just replace the names...

it is like blatant insult and yes i know it was EK show and this is exactly how she serves it ..but i had hopes on the channel that they would have a say in it ...

instead i spend my time rewatching ZGH and House

i doubt they want to redeem Akbar unless the trps says so...for them it is business and only business...

I especially agree on the romance department. I personally would not mind watching the show with 80% good romance of such fab looking people and 20% history! but the romance has ironically just gone downhill after the ghrina phase. I mean when was the last you heard "ishq hai woh ehsaas..." and have that give you goosebumps. Both leads have started behaving like 50 year olds ( no offence) with touch me not, transactional romance. Seriously if I wanted to see romance of advanced ages, I would watch my parents naa,why waste time on JA?
