So all are now on the same page that the characterization of Akbar has been getting special attention from the makers - so much of attention that it has been butchered - left, right and centre - even led to Mandy now calling him 'Butchered Male Character'.

I am wondering why the makers would be doing this - what possible reasons they have to butcher the lead male character - I would like to hear the reasons from all of you as to why you all think this has happened - let this be a fun post where we bash the makers and the channel and not each other please - and if Donjas gets some material for putting together that petition to save JA from here that would be gr8!!!!!!

I think historical shows and movies differ from others in the sense that the producers of that program need to have a good understanding of the historical character. It is also desirable that they have a sympathetic view of the character. The show suffers if the producers are apathetic regarding their views of the character and it is terrible if they are hostile to their main character.
Imagine a CV in Ekta's team who is actually hostile to Akbar. This person will never want to show Akbar in a positive light, unless forced to do so by others.

If the reason is not actual hostility, it could be the belief that only woman specific characters will appeal to viewers, maybe like Diya Bhaati or Saath Nibhana. The problem here is the assumption that the viewer makeup of Saas Bahu shows is similar to historical shows.

The third reason could be the increased workload that Ekta and her team has off late. New shows means that good technical talent is taken away from established shows like JA and given over to these new shows in an attempt to give them a head start.

The new technical staff sent to JA maybe amateurs, with limited experience and no understanding of the backstory. These newcomers start their own stuff with no reference to material done earlier, hence the discontinuity.

Agreed to your point ... but @bold - but this just cannot be an excuse to butchering of Akbar's character !!! I blame Ek & her obsession of female centricity 😡

The PH has issues that first Hindu begum, who gave the heir to the Mughal dynasty was not given swan song...so they gave her that with vengeance to her husband Akbar...nothing else or nothing explains the BMC. 😡

The think CVS forgot that Jallal is a KING , he has to justice also be right & voice over his decision.. He is not just a hero of XYZ serial where heroine will do everything & she will always be right...

But Ekta apply the same formula that HERO agreeing & listen to HEROINE words is all LOVE.. As Female lead can never be wrong, if she is wrong also her intentions always right and especially the HERO should understand, listen accept, praise what ever she does.. Unfortunately Jalaal is the hero ( even though Akbar), but for EKTA he is Jodha ka Akbar. and will always be JODHA's AKBAR ..(not Akbar the great) ..😃

So now he is waiting for his TURN, & will have to fight with BOOGIE MAN as now JO is unable to fight (may be wants to him chance) she is calling SS for the help & he has to fight now..😆

Why are the makers doing this? Money!

Much as we try and dissect it, Akbar's character here is still part of the Indian television industry and this industry primarily caters to a female audience. Unlike us, who are here to gain some interesting perspectives on history (with entertaining spins on the tale itself) - others like twists and drama - plotting against leads that the heroine unfolds and untangles!

The top 5 serials have prominent female leads taking charge of the serial - the men have little role in them, especially after the leads' SR is done and dusted with 😆
The men are hardly required after that as their role as romance-makers is done. It's then time for these male leads to hand over the reigns to the females so the usual SB saga can go on and on!

Sandhya/Bhabho are ALWAYS in the limelight - Suraj is still someone who's become backdrop material (the first year wasn't so)
Gopi bahu/Kokila are ALWAYS in the limelight - Ahem is someone in the backdrop
Akshara possibly enjoys twice the screen space and dialogues as Naithik (though Naithik-Akshara's romance is still on every now and again). Yet, all we see Naithik do is step out of the house with a briefcase in the morning and return in the evening for chai-pakoda😆
The list goes on and on...

JA has also joined this list, that's all! While Jalal's role might not become as bad as Ahem's, it definitely is no greater than a Naithik's at this stage...

Other historicals like MP and Buddha where this is not the case don't enjoy such TRPs. 😊

Ektha has famously (or infamously) said - Ladies are eye-candy in the movie industry and men are eye-candy in the TV industry!

Guys pls go on with ur reasons - Since I have a restriction in terms of number of posts will be liking all the posts and responding after many.

@lashy - dont you think its time for change - Audience has lapped up the show Zindagi Gulzar hai on Zee's Zindagi channel - and if you have seen it, Zaroon's character has been as beautifully etched out as Kasaf's has been - and so have all the supporting characters - and the Audience has loved the interplay of both leads - one lead has not been butchered to make way for the other - and this is the trp audience that I am talking of - infact the ultimate test at the grind is the story and not the characters - and this change has come to the Indian telly audience too.

There is always the odd one out.. like there is the odd-Hindi movie that's female oriented (like a Dushman/Damini of yesteryears or a Kahani/Bobby Jasoos of today) but the movie industry is still by and large male dominated. The TV industry female dominated.
Why are men still sticking around, one may ask!

Its easier to grab a role in a serial than in a movie.
Good way to gain popularity and hone skills till one can step into Bollywood (though works only for a select few)
The pay is not bad...
