hi Mansi,
First of all, am really shocked to know you still have that back problem and need surgery. Please take good care of your health. Like I told you last time also, this track is at an all time low. So you can well take a break. wishing you a speedy recovery! :) (big hug)
Mansi, I don't feel anything at all about yesterday's epi. I have cut myself off emotionally and mentally.
This is the third time since oct when I started watching JA. Earlier I had stopped watching during Jo FP track and during Ben track. In short, whenever Jo becomes self sacrificing, and is publicly humiliated, I no longer feel anything for her or the show.
I have defended JJ a lot in the face of a lot of public comments. But now I have no words to defend them.
This is at the end of the day, just a tv show. How JJ
Behave here will not change how the real JA were. After hearing my friends' views last night, I thought a lot abt the epi. Here are my thoughts.
The show is @ best a natakiya roopantar, not the real slice of life documentary. It is by EK known for her regressive female characters. It is made for trp's/profit. We may not like such female characterization, but there must be a market for it. That's why EK continues to show such self sacrificing heroines. And heroes who are tragedy kings. Seriously JJ now look like versions of Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari. Tragedy king and queen.
Should we even have expectations from a tv show, esp from EK? NO. It's our fault if we expect an Indian tv/film heroine to be a strong, self respecting person. Long back, in a post, I had admired Shabana Azmi for walking out of a bad marriage in Arth and making it on her own. But the kind of women she and Smita Pail enacted in the 70s are no longer seen on the big or small screen. All we see are scantily clad and/or self sacrificing, dumb girls. And such movies/shows are big hits. So obviously such women are liked across India. Even by women.
Like Gem said, it's our fault for choosing to watch this show. And we should quit if we can't take the crap anymore. Because the PH isn't bothered by such minority views.
They want to please everyone, including certain cross sections of people who want to see Ruq as a high ranking queen at all times. It's ok with them to show Jo as a meek lamb in the process because in India, the woman is anyway a cow, revered and left to fend for itself on the streets.
Cleo, do you really think Indians need a show to have certain expectations from women? Actually its the other way round. Indians expect women to behave a certain way and these views drive tv shows.
Women are not progressing, rather they are reGressing. There is more crime against them, more suppression, more genocide against them even before birth. When society is trying to push women to the stone ages and make them disappear from the public view, if possible, we are at fault if we feel like this for a tv heroine.
I thought and thought last night. What is the anger and frustration about on the forum? Do I love Jo etched by PS or the real HK?
I love the real HK. I will continue to love her, no matter how Jo by PS behaves. My HK was strong, self respecting, brave, intelligent, generous, loving, astute, a great lady much much ahead of her time. Who stood shoulder to shoulder with a great emperor without flinching and could make her own mark on history without being overshadowed by him.
A woman who could stand the test of time and attempts to obliterate her from chronicles and still makes her presence felt.
Let the show turn any which way. It cannot affect how I view HK and the real JA story. Nor do I feel it can affect the image of women any more negatively than already seen around us.
