I believe in today's scene rio it's impossible but in those days it could have been possible. I only say this coz the world of women in harem was constraint. They didn't have a life outside of it and spent 24 hrs within the palace hence it's obvious to make friends and confidants in there but I guess it was only true in cases where either the two wives were not enjoying too much of the emperors attention hence being in the same boat or were confident of their roles in his life like salima n jodha. I believe it would have been impossible to live ur whole life in one place within the four walls with other women and not make friends. I don't know why but it reminds me of the hostel life where we had groups, close friends and girls we hated, all because we did live together in one building 24 hrs and were not allowed to step out of the hostel. Rivalries existed but so did friendships.

This is an amazing Q, Khushi, I want to actually congratulate on making such sense on a vicious & immature Forum like this. 😆

In any scenario, today or yester-years, my answer will remain the same- NO.

If Ruqaiyya does befriend Jodha, it'll because she'll HAVE to accept Jodha as her Jalal's Beloved. Whatever they show on the tv, that will be the main factor. 😆

She'll come to like Jodha, but it'll be because she'll have to accept Jodha in Jalal's life as a permanent feature.

This setup makes me sad.

No wife will be able to see her husband get close to another woman , worse if she is his wife, is the wife in question has an emotional attachment towards the husband.

I feel like laughing when people quote Salima as an example. She is the WORST example to give. 😆

She has ZERO emotional attachment towards Jalal, though she admires him & respects him immensely, like an older & revered brother. 😆

What Ruqaiyya feels is only natural. It would've been totally un-natural any other way. There is always jealousy, loneliness & insecurity in Love, that's the grey side of Love.

So no.. I don't think in any age they can be friends.. Not true friends. There would always be that under-lying need for Power & One Upmanship,

It is as Jodha said months ago- When women themselves are each others worst enemies, how can One fight the oppressive practices forced on them by men?

That's the only sensible thing I've heard her say from the beginning of this show. 😆

i do not think a very healthy relation is possible..in the show whatever ruq is experiencing is very normal, for her to accept jodha as her husband's beloved will be the most painful acceptance, but she will have no choice but to live with it! in polygamy the first one feels the deepest hurt but the ones that trail after, maybe the lower ones who do not get much importance after being used a few times might become sukh dukh waali friends and gang up against the most privileged one but again we cannot call that a healthy friendship..jealousy in such type of atmosphere is unstoppable! indeed a sad scenario!

Everyone is grey in life , even our Jodha is. You can't expect Ruqu just to happily accept her husband who has claimed that he has no heart , suddenly him to accept that he has a heart and a beloved. It's not all fairies and rainbows. The only thing that irritates me Ruqu has turned in a classical bimbo . I would actually applaud her game if she played it very well without letting Jalal know she is involved. I would not support her actions, but would have admit she knows how to play her game.😊

i think its unfair to have a polygamus marraige and I am so glad it is banned and illegal although I think it is still legal in some places
I mean it obvious to feel insecure and dejected when your husband has a harem full of women and you don't when again you might get love from your husband. So its really stressful who knows maybe some women might have even comitted suicide cuz of this I mean even as girlfriends when your guy talks about another grl or another grl has his attention he tends to get very insecure. I think if they are friends they will bond on their husband or it is possible they can be genuine friends because imagine in a harem along with 5000 other women they are all competing for they hussy's attention it may tend to get very lonley so you make friends with all the other dejected women until their husband possibly shows love and attention to them and then there is jealously and competiveness all over again

Thought-provoking topic indeed. Have been following the thread for a bit- but didn't know on what basis to put my view- from either the real or fictional world.

In real life, I am not familiar with such a scenario. It is hard to judge based on what I have seen in movies and serials including this one, as almost always, the construct of multiple wives is used to create conflict. The Ramayana and Mahabharat have multiple examples of multiple wives (and husbands) ... But I have not read the original texts ... Only watched only in movie or tv form so don't know what is exact truth .. . I always like the stories of Rukmini and Satyabhama and Krishna ... Where I believe Satyabhama initially felt she was superior ... But Krishna taught her a lesson in humility ... And the she was more accepting of Rukmini while Rukmini was always more accepting. But hard to extrapolate from Gods to Mankind as well.

So, in a hypothetical scenario: I think there will be insecurities over their husband's love and attention ... But that does not mean they cannot be friends- it might be like more extreme cases of sibling rivalry. Even friends can have insecurities when it comes to certain things- as we are all human- so I think they can be friends but not best of friends.

We can't compare humans and Gods! 😃

The Mahabharata isn't about Gods. 😳

It's about Life's Lessons & the challenges we as humans, irrespective of Social Status, face.

It's about the human Soul & the aim to transcend common human vices,

It is about humans , hence it's the most relatable & far more interesting as literature to read, than Ramayana. 😳
