Radhika, that was lovely ... and I love the fact that you are venting on my thread. If your venting itself is so good, imagine your non-venting posts!I am so glad I have found a kindred soul who sees the faults in HB and MV. I was trying to be sparing in my censure of HB, but you walloped her as she deserves. Honestly, the characters of HB and MV could have been better etched ... or is it that they were really such pale characters without nuances?I seriously cannot understand how HB has remained so aloof all these years just accepting Maham's overbearing ways. If I am right, the real length of time Jalal was away from his own mother and with Maham was not all that long at all. Maybe just a few years. How Maham could then gain such exclusive attention and love from Jalal that he couldn't give to his own mother beats me. That suggests one of two things:1. His mother Hamida was too placid and was generally indifferent to the way her son saw her, or2. Maham actively brainwashed Jalal into thinking he loved her so much. Its easy to tell a kid what he is supposed to think and to make him believe its his own thoughts!.If HB had taken half the pains Maham took, her son would be closer to her than he is. Even now, it is only via Jodha that he is getting closer to HB.As for Mainavati, I think she's a little vacant in the upper storey. Not too chipper!
Mansi and Radhika - friends are for venting - I count on you when I want to vent! 😆
I think both HB and MV were more protocol driven mothers.
I had read this lovely line somewhere - most parents teach their children to be "right thinkers" - what actually should be taught is "HOW TO THINK RIGHTLY"
There is a vast difference - first makes us follow all rituals and set ways of life considering this is the right way to think and behave
Second way teaches us to evaluate for ourselves, churn inside and be more liberal. It gives us freedom to be independent and make our own conclusions and decisions.
Jalal is clearly very liberal person. Not even MA & HB could change this in him. Jalal imbibed all the "right" lessons they gave him but Jalal ALWAYS remained a person who "knew how to think and decide".
When he wanted Jalal did what he wanted - Jalal marrying Jodha was something BOTH MA and BK would have been aghast at. Especially his giving Jodha religious freedom. This so went against the kind of narrow cruel leader they wanted to turn Jalal into.
HB has been very conservative thinker - it is possible Jalal did not find her stimulating as a person.
HB had such a hesitancy in approaching Jalal earlier - I remember the scene just at start of JA when she got a taveej for Jalal and he did not bother to see it fell when he went off from her.
HB picked it up with great sadness.
Just as Jalal has thought she did no stand by him maybe HB also carries this guilt.
Jodha brought out the best in HB cos she gave her tremendous respect, Jodha saw what a gem of a person HB is. Jodha gave confidence to HB.
Apart from that one scene when HB went to Jalal the night before Jalal was to marry Ben, he was miserable and she gave him advice. It has always been Jalal go to HB mostly.
I agree HB should have been the first one to offer comfort to Jalal. Who but his own mother who loves him dearly can comfort him when the person he considered his mother backstabbed him?
It was interesting Jalal said that he lost his father and mother in BK & MA. These are the ones HE thought of as his parents.
There was a time when Jalal used to be amused at the thought that HB liked Jodha so much.
HB only reacted angrily when Jodha was driven away from Jalal's life because she loves Jalal and knows only Jodha can love him the way he deserves to.
HB was shown being assertive with Adga, with MA. So when Jalal was absent from Agra then HB did try to safeguard Jalal's interests.
At this point in Jalal's life ONLY Jodha can really find him back - he said he feels he has lost his wajood. Maybe now is the time for Jodha to come back to help him find himself.
Jodha is also a non conforming to set rigid rules person. She flouted so many rules herself and she fits right in with Jalal's own thoughts. They both like to think differently - isn't that what sets apart great people from ordinary ones? How they think DIFFERENTLY.
I hope to see HB comfort Jalal today - it is just that she is important to him but not as important as Jodha. Jalal only needs Jodha now and I hope Jodha goes to Agra now.
BTW - HOW WOULD JODHA KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING IN AGRA?
I guess Jalal needs to see MA for what she is and being apart from Jodha gave him the strength to act against MA. If Jodha was by Jalal's side then he would have been angry but would have made him think maybe MA is feeling left out. MA would have got away with her nautanki she pulled on about mother left out etc.
