My advice would be to try a bit of both.. but, if you want something truly unique in your FF here try and keep it as close to reality as possible since that'd be the USP of your story (leaving out details that are too personal of course!)

Pre-deciding how you want your story to proceed and splitting it into chaps beforehand helps keep the consistency and crispness of the story alive is my personal experience.. I'm sure it'd be a very interesting read! 😳 So, go ahead!
