Very well written...
Rukkiya:: to me, her anger and frustration was completely justified...especially towards Adham and Jalal. Any self respecting woman ( i am not talking about the daily soap heroines from 21st century) would feel humiliated if the validity of her marriage is questioned in that manner... In public with no one comes to her defense. Most woman would take it as a comment on their honor and character as well. One of the reasons she fails to get sympathy today, from other characters as well as some of us, is because of the way she reacts... No silent sobbing... She angrily barges outs, yells and uses strong language...The arrogance is intact...I'm begum-e-khas...she is sarcastic towards Jalal as well as Hamida...then she makes another mistake and starts attacking Jodha who everybody believes had only good intentions and could not have anticipated this kind of collatoral damage. There was a lack of diplomacy on Rukkiya's side but isn't this how most woman would react in a similar situation... Realistic portrayal in tune with her character. In fact, I give her points for showing some restrain and no physical violence towards Adham. ( She has been shown hit/ slap Jodha and poor Hoshiyaar when upset). She is also probably upset about Adham's previous indirect comment on her childlessness .
She was justified in being upset with Jalal . He disappointed me today while explaining his reason for staying mum ...'I was a shehensha delivering justice' . No wonder Rukkiya didnt buy it...we all remember a recent scene from Deewan-e-Aam where he gives in to his emotions by giving a harsher sentence to the woman accused of infidelity. Hamida's lame but more believable response that they were too stunned to say anything was better. Jalal made a blunder by getting carried away and falling into Adham trap towards the end . On Adham's provocation, he didnt spare a minute to think before announcing that the law will be applicable to him as well. He did seem to notice Mahamunga's open support for her son in the court. Adham's sudden show of intelligence and an out of character restrain should have raised a reg flag for someone street smart like Jalal . He did not connect the obvious dots. ..When everyone else in the court voiced together that it was wrong to expect the king to be bound by the same law, I wish he gave them a chance to explain the reason for unanimously making that statement and its relevance on that matter. Generally speaking, most laws are passed to address a problem/ issue that affects the society at the time of its implementation . As time passes and circumstances change, they may need to be amended. Someone from the court may have given him a good reason of why kings are exempted from certain rules...something may have lead him to see through Adham's plan.

And what is happening to Mahamunga's brain cells? Cunning and evil, but certainly the most intellegent character on the Mughal side so far. She was congratulating Adham for insulting Jalal and Rukkiya in public...what?? What happened to 'Jalal ka ' Kahar '?. Didn't she just reprimand Adham for ' jodha begum ka Kahar'? . She is gloating when her son has put Jalal on the spot. How can she not know that even if he gets away this time, Jalal can be vindictive ( sujaanpur ki Jung was fought to punish Jodha/Ameris) as well as unforgiving( bakshi bano) . She is very perceptive and could tell that something was not right after seeing Jalal's expressions at the time Jodha' s fake pregnancy but this time, she cant see where Jalal is leaning ? He actually politely snubbed her by first asking her to deliver justice on Adham's case and later telling the court that HE will decide the next day. Her son is in a big trouble and she is busy trying to creat ' jealousy tracks' between the begums. She is going out of her way to insult Rukkiya. This is after she just saw Rukkiya's influence on Jalal's decision about subedaari. Wrong timing...Vinaash Kaale Vipreet Buddhi.

Because the way men and women think are different.
Jalal cannot be best friend he is only an husband. If jalal had told her before he wanted only best friend not wife ruqaiah may have found a better HUSBAND. Just playing shatranj, paheli, consoling her when angry, giving her lavish gifts and palace etc does not make anyone an husband or best friend. Jalal has not taken time to understand how she feels when he has so many women in his life after her. Has he ever asked her do i have permission to marry anoher wife? etc nooo. So he is neither doing duty of best friend or husband both.

Replying to the edited portion of ur post 😆

@blue : This I will have to disagree with. My best friend is a guy. and we truly are the best of friends. WOmen cant be trusted with secrets,if u ask me! 😆

As far as the rest is concerned, see,I dont find either of them at fault. Ruqaiya has always been too scared to say t him how she actually feels. She has put an impression on him that she is fine with whatever he does, like a best friend. She doesn't mind him having other wives. She keeps saying it doesn't she? Rememba the Jodha fake pregnancy track, she kept saying " I dont mind you sleeping with other women. But it bothers me when you DONT TELL ME ABOUT IT."

This is the thing.Communication gap. Jalal thinks she if fine with it. A tomboy of sorts, someone who understands him. For someone liek Jalal,a tomboy wife is ideal!

Trust me,even in today's times, guys hate it when the girl in their life keeps fretting about "dont talk to her.dont look at her".Such girls come off as teh jealous kind. Extremely obsessed. Guys date them, but dont trust them with their secrets. U know what I mean? Jalal doesn't find the need to be in love or be loved(or so he thinks!),he needs someone he can share his feelings with. And Ruqaiya was the perfect person for the same.

He himself thinks that he doesn't have a heart and so he expects Ruqaiya to believe the same. And so she did.

I dont blame either of them. I blame the circumstances. Life has been unfair to both of them. And indirectly, both of them ended up being hurt.

I still believe that he may not love Ruqaiya, but he feels a strong attachment towards her. Rememba how shattered he was when their baby died? I haven't seen Jalal that vulnerable ever.

Ruqs was unfortunately a sorry figure both in reel life and in history. Pick up the history books, her description hardly goes beyond her being the first wife of Akbar. Mostly mentioned only for the sake of it. It is only Salima and Jodha who are highlighted. Whatever myviewprem has written is right. She was isolated and lonely. She didn't even want to be buried in Agra where she spent almost all her life.

She was but so what in those days boys stayed with their mothers/gaurdian only till age of 12 and then they stayed in mens quarters. There were seperate men's quarters where by stayed after 12 and also they went to war etc so they were not like modern times where sons stay till 23-25 with parents till studies is over.

I'm not arguing the point. Am just asking. At least she was given some recognition in that set up and was trusted with an heir. But I agree that she has lots of reasons to feel alone.

Yes but here is another tragedy and wrong decision by Akbar
Khurram was only child of Jodha Bai of Jodhpur. How would Jodha Bai have felt? imagine
Her only baby born after 10 years marriage to Salim with so many manat's snatched within 10 days of birth from her and given to ruqaiah?
How will jehangir feel his son (whom he later on loved the most may be because he was taken away from him and his wife as a baby) cannot stay with father and mother in his house?
I read somewhere Ruqaiah allowed Jodha and Jehangir to meet Khurram only 2-3 hours in a week under supervision. May be insecurity that Khurram will get close to his parents?
When Jehangir went in rebellion as a measure of appeasment of jehangir, Akbar told Ruqaiah to allow jodha to meet him more often and without supervision.
So ruqaiah was anyways childless for many years but he made jodha bai also childless for life. How heartbroken and devastating that must have been for a mother?

Yes when treated like this, anybody will become very insecure. All the wives and concubines must have had lives we can't even imagine. But this was the way royal houses behaved.

Khurram was not a heir as per the chagtai laws. It was Khursow who would have ascended to throne if he wouldn't have rebelled so early against Jahangir and later lived a lonely life. Khuraam had to kill all his brothers and their children to become an Emperor so we cannot say that Ruquaiya was trusted with an heir. It was more like a tradition in the Royal family that children grew under the care of their step mothers/Grandmothers. Mariam Makani brought up Shakrunnisa Begum one of Akbar's daughter under her care. Murad/Danial being sons of concubines were given to Salima Sultan/MUZ to take care of. Actually in reality none of Akbar's own children were brought up by Ruqaiya, that was an injustice with her. She was given khurram when Akbar realised his mistakes in middle age looking at his grieving first wife.
Ruqaiya truly deserved to be respected and loved but though she was active in mughal court as per some documents, history books never glorify her as a longest serving Mughal Empress. She was truly the only one empress with royal blood and was the witness of the prosperous times all the great 6 Emperors of Mughal dynasty. She was Babur-E-Aazam's granddaughter, Humayun's niece, Akbar's wife, she sorted out Akbar-Salim's differences and was care taker of ShahJahan, but in the end a lonely and complex character of history.
