Then Tamy that is even worse for JA/JO characterization because it shows partiality...because, it means that for one person (who's close to the emperor) you're allowing them to get away with the crimes...but, if it was someone else they would have been punished...

tomorrow if a commoner did the same crime and this got reported to the king, will Jodha/Jalal be able to let him/her go scot-free because it was committed out of blind love?

If they punished him, he can object that they let the Emperor's sister go...
If they didnt' punish him, then many many more people will start committing the same misdeed

After all, aren't all crimes committed due to some form of love/obsession - be it love for power, love for money or love for a human!

Its not a small mistake that BB can be pardoned once or twice and reprimanded...its a crime that could have actually led to changing the course of two royals and with it an Empire and thus thousands of people!

(what if Jalal in his rage against Jodha's adultery decided to take action by taking away support from Amer)then, other rajvanshis would have attacked. It would have led to loss of thousands of lives in war etc etc

thanku so much for ur explanation lashy...i never thought dat deep...salute u galClap

Lashy my sweet, trust you to bring reason and logic to this debate! I am so pleased and relieved!

I find the line Jodha is peddling, that Bakshi Banu should not be held guilty at all as she was manipulated by her husband to be dangerous nonsense. BB says she is ready to kill for her husband. If she had stabbed that hakima, would Jodha say the same thing?

I do not at all buy this Love made me commit this crime, so I should not be punished for it argument. It would be the same as saying,in a drunk driving-cum-manslaughter case, It was the whisky that made me drive so badly, and hit and kill this chap! Where is the universal concept of personal responsibility for what you did?

Moreover, Jodha's argument is highly demeaning of women in love as a whole. It is hardly a compliment, to be dubbed a mindless, programmed robot controlled by a manipulative man! No love that makes you commit a crime can be called great. It is an evil obsession.

I can't speak for others...but, had Jodha actually punished BB (as in by punishment I mean - banishment or isolation) I WOULD have admired her... 😊 just like I admired her when she used her feminine tricks to emotionally sway the Shehenshah in that act during Sukanya's wedding...

Jodha is an Empress...there is only so much you can let go or give...anything beyond shall not be called selfless, only ignorance!

What she did is politically not right (the same can be said of Jalal too) - to give it a reasoning of love does not mean its right... Then all crimes of love/passion today can be justified (by Jodha's reasoning)

Had BB's actions successfully ended up killing Jodha - or making her terminally ill - would you still stick by 'forgiving-BB-is-right' since she had done so in the name of love?

When Jodha took long to forgive her own mother (for just advising her harshly in court) and hasn't yet forgiven Sujamal (for actually demanding a kingdom that originally belonged to his father) - how is she expecting Jalal to forgive BB for trying to defame/banish/assassinate Jodha and betray him? Isn't the latter crime the worst of the lot? 🤔

Think of all these points without the mindset of which character your prefer and then you'd understand why this argument doesn't hold true...
Just as much as I'm disappointed with Jalal (and his forces) for not catching Shareef's mideeds yet, I'm disappointed with Jodha for letting go of a criminal scot-free and justifying the horrible crime committed with the reasoning of love.

If Jodha gave punishment to bb then also these ppl would say how dare jodha to give punished bb as bb is shensha jalal's sis,her nanand, how would jodha forget it! Therefore, there is no benevolence to discuss what Jodha's bashers said i think. But personally i think not giving any punishment to bb, jodha has given another chance to bb as she believes next time when bb ever tries to harm her or jalal, bb wl do remorse thinking her past sin..though as a shahensha jalal asked ques to jodha abt her judgement but as a bro jalal definitely had been glad jodha's verdict abt bb n jodha gave her judgement being bb's bhavijaan not being an emperor.

BB had to be punished...even if not harsh but some form of punishment because what she did was not a mistake but a crime she committed with full knowledge of what she was doing and how it will affect the involved people...16th century a rajputana women who is publicly trashed will commit jauhar without a thought..they are that rigid about their honour and integrity and then she shamed her own brother ,the Emperor ...she would have been beheaded i reality ...her whole family were ridiculed and shamed...a very grave crime...

i did not like jodha's reasoning for forgiving BB...it made absolutely no sense..the dialogue writers in order to show the heroines mahaan mess up the dialogues which is more or less out of context of the entire situation ...ths was the track where they should have shown a wise jodha not a emotional jodha...she should have reprimanded BB and distinctly outlined what she did and its consequence and then if she wanted to forgive her should have said it in a firm tone that she forgave her not coz she is related to her but because she believes every person deserves a second chance be it a criminal or a victim...so it is her duty to provide that chance to BB...that is her decision ,rest she leaves with the Emperor to do what he deems right...

jodha is emotional and i never expected her to punish BB but she needs to get smart and alert if she wishes to survive in Agra a place filled with back stabbers and poisonous snakes ..she is not going to be lucky everytime ..she has to smarten up to the people around her ...

nor am i jodha basher nor jalal basher..i wish to see a epic love story worth my time between two very different people who come together fall in love against all odds ...they make their own mistakes ,are flawed but they learn and move on to become wise ,generous and epic that 400 years later also people talk about their love story ...

Dear Tamy,

What Hamida says about Jalal and why he does not pronounce judgment himself, is her (mis)interpretation of his reason for doing so.

That he chooses not to do that is not - as she states with not just a characteristic lack of understanding of her son but also of the issues involved- that the Shahenshah in him has not been able to prevail over the brother. It is rather that for the Shahenshah, the imperative of not just doing justice, but being seen to do so, is paramount. If he were to decide the case himself, no matter how harsh the sentence he pronounces, keeping in mind that Bakshi Banu has no blood on her hands, the feeling will always linger among the awaam that he let her off lightly because she is his sister. There being no way of proving a negative, this impression would have remained as a black mark on his reputation.

Moreover, there is , in Islamic jurisprudence, the option, even in cases of murder, of a compromise settlement between the accused and the victims of the crime, even a full pardon, which can then be approved by the court.

So what Jalal does here is neither irregular nor extraordinary. Nor is the reason that he advances for it at all flimsy, and in fact it is the only logical course for him to take in order to preserve an image of strict impartiality. Even today, in the courts, no judge will hear a case in which he has any personal interest, such as the defendant being a close relative or friend.

Ok Nabii...😳
then tomorrow, a commoner from the kingdom commits the same crime and the victim approaches the king and queen for justice...what would your answer as Jodha be then?

Would you support the victim who's asking for justice
or
Tthe criminal (who justifies that he/she did it in the name of love) - seeing how BB has been pardoned?

If she let the criminal go again, then what would happen if the victim pays for it one day with his/her life...hasn't the king/queen indirectly become responsible for that victim's death?
