Hi Shyamala aunty,
awesome post. Nothing more to add.

I have already written pages about complex-for-desi TV- Ruqs in your previous posts, so not adding to that. If not there will be no difference between Jo harping to Kanha and me 😉 just kidding😛

Anyway, like you rightly mentioned, like Ginco mentioned too, I think her true test will come when she is forced to accept that Jalal does have a heart (one that she knew about deep inside and was unable to conquer) and that he is lost to her. He might give her his dimaag but she doesnt really want that does she? So lets what CVs do to her then. Just for TRPs, they might destroy her totally. Remember MA denying vehemently that she was behind Ruqs MC when she really was? I would not at all be surprised if the CVs make Ruqs do the same dirty thing again to create a rift between the leads. However since I like her, a lot, I'm hoping fervently that she sticks to shades they revealed of her yesterday and not go back to square one. Because I'm reallly interested in a character that would stand back and watch her love being taken away from her and to top it all , be barren.

As for Jalal and Jo, I just hope this track ends soon. Again I have written pages about this, so wont bore anyone again.

Ah, commenting after such a long period of time.
And your analysis is as gorgeous as ever.
I was dreading the pregnancy track honestly. But I am slightly relieved that the CVs have not lost their minds entirely.
The highlight of the episode, for me, would be the Jalal's fighting scene. That was very, very well done. And Rajat was great. One of his best scenes, or so I believe.
I am actually excited about the episode tonight, and if we follow the spoilers, Jalal is supposed prove Jodha's pregnancy false. I wonder how that will come to be.
And as always, I adored your analysis. When I kept missing the episodes due to my exams, your threads were the only link to the show. Why, even most of my friends who watch the show, who are not on IF, follow your posts. Thank you again. Take care. ❤️

While the manner in which she left behind a wailing Shehenshah after Bairam Khan's death still brings about a sour feeling, she has done a lot of things lately that has brought about a feeling of pleasant surprise. I sincerely hope the CVs keep it up because I have always reiterated that Jodha's character should have to shine of her own accord and not bounce off Ruqaiyya's. Also, grey characters are always more interesting to watch. TV serials have painted people in shades or pure white or pure black too long!

JODHA
Anu (Prejudiced) made a good point - the betrayal she must have felt is nothing compared the betrayal he must be feeling. I don't know if a Begum could have questioned her husband in that manner if such a thing had even happened then - but, we know that this is a contemporary take on 16th century historical! Besides, a passionate war-of-words between Jodha and Jalal is better than having to listen to her cry in front of Kanha and Moti - at least, makes for more interesting viewing.
Some didn't like the fact that Jodha stopped Ruqaiyya's exit from Jalal's chamber and questioned Jalal in front of Ruqaiyya. However, I'm not too concerned about it - after all, when Ruqaiyya can hound Jalal with sexual interrogations claiming to be the harem warden - claiming to be his best-friend, then I don't see why Jodha interrogating Jalal in front of Ruqaiyya is an issue!
Besides, Jodha had vouched for Shehenshah's integrity in front of Ruqaiyya with all pride just a couple of episodes ago - I'm sure this is her way of getting back at Jalal and clearing her name in front of Ruqaiyya too!

JALAL
I am in absolute accordance with your take on Jalal. Again, I saw a few posts praising his silence - that he's been very dignified and behaved very honourably (be it in Ruqaiyya's presence or in the court) in order to preserve Jodha's honour. This definitely can't be the case - we could see what he felt like doing to Jo from the punishment he meted her 'look-alike' hallucinated figure!
He's purely keeping silent so he can find out the culprit (by himself) and then punish them both. Its such a major dart on his ego and pride if his wife had indeed committed what he fears her of committing! He CANNOT afford for this scandal to come out - its an outright ridicule of his power, a mar on his manhood!
He might stumble upon some reality/flashback/brain-wave today and decide to see who's behind it all - but, at this point he feels nothing genial for Jodha. Yes, he's incredibly hurt by her after all that's happened. However, his heart is filled with absolute rage now.

If I am strangely apathetic towards what both Jodha AND Jalal are going through -
it possibly because
1) There was NO 'dhokha' in the first place
2) This track doesn't justify any aspect of that era in history

THE TRACK
I have not come across ONE instance of suspected adultery in Indian historicals amongst well-known royal women - especially amongst the larger/more powerful households!
As a Rajasthani daughter, Jodha would have been taught to sacrifice her life in the fire, before she would even cast a glimpse upon a man who wasn't her husband. Even little girls who had child marriages and lost their husbands (even before their relationship blossomed) were compelled to commit Jauhar. In such tradition, bringing about such a storyline makes NO sense.I can understand if slaves and women who had NO connection with the Shehenshah resorted to such tactics, but to bring upon such a taint on the name of an actual queen Hira Kunwari for the sake of a story really pains me!
Besides, as you mentioned - the maths doesn't add up and nor does the science!😆

Crass tracks like the push up scenes and body-heat etc - though didn't really sit well with a historical - didn't raise fingers upon the 'wifely' character of Hira Kunwari! They can be brushed-off as unrealistic tiffs between husband and wife. However, this is something else.
Kamal sent me a pm about what she'd garnered about this princess in historical chronicles. How impressed I was when I read it all. This track is a blotch on her name - its doesn't feel right to be bringing out adultery suspicions/investigations for the sake of entertainment on this historical figure.

I don't know what Emeperor Akbar would have done if he suspected one of his queens as being an adulteress. After all, he did bury alive his slave girl who had an affair with his son. So, I'm guessing the punishment for his wife would have been infinitely worse. Hopefully they wrap this track up soon - very indecent and petty just like the body-heat one!

Lashy , LOVED your take on the episode and track ! I agree with it almost completely .

And I won't write another ode to ruqs now, will give you a break :)

I agree that he feels insulted , cuckolded and all that . His reactions when watching Mughal Jo , she says naamardangi, so it's quite apparent that he feels this is a question mark on his manhood and he is protecting that and the empire from scandal .
However Jo is not aware of what transpires between ruqs and jalal . So her assuming that he would tell his best friend everything anyway , so why not talk in front of her , is totally wrong . She doesn't know what jalal told ruqs about that night . Just like how jalal cannot talk in front of moti even though Jo tells moti everything Jo cannot talk in front if ruqs . Jalal was right in thinking that she was trying to defame him . It did look like that , that was her intention . At least part if the reason she goes there .

Also if moti knows everything and Jo doesn't hold back with her , I don't get why this forum thinks jalal should hold back details from his best friend ruqs. Whether it's right or wrong of ruqs to ask that , technically same logic should apply to Jo and jalal

Haven't watched today , just read update . Have only one word for it : satyanash :)

I absolutely do not like this track . But glad MA is digging her grave further and ruqs is out of this

Poor Jo , today was awful . And jalal :(. betrayed his sister

Edit : I really wish jalal hadn't voiced his suspicions .i know it's not realistic but He should have found another way . Or I wish that he had . It's demeaning for a woman to hear that and it lessens him as a man and reduces his imperial aura when he voices those suspicions .

He could have questioned those around her and the guards discreetly if at all he was suspicious . He should not have voiced it .

Hi Shyamala, Thanx for your post..Keeps me updated, coz I have stopped seeing these episodes. I am sure they will get huge TRPs, but I don't want to be part of the viewership that encourages convoluted tracks to build the so called trust btw lead characters!
Can't comment much on the epi, but your take is purrfect! Frankly I have always liked Ruquaiya. I have not seen Smiley's version( many in forum seem to have liked her), but I like the present one too. I don't see Anything worng in her wanting power. Who doesn't? In thAt sense, I would say there is a Ruquaiya in each of us. We all admire the Darcy's, and Arnav Singh Raizadas and currently Jalal, because they wield so much power, besides of course being good looking, full of integrity et c etc..But power is the factor that draws us to them..So well, assuming Ruquaiya does very much mean all the power dialogues, I don't think it's wrong. at least she is honest enough to admit to herself and also Jalal...It's only misuse of the power that is bad, and so far she is not shown to do it. And after yest, as yu have updated, she has shown how fair she can be! No hatred can make her stoop low!
Rajat is a brilliant actor and is actually pulling the JA serial...As for Jodha, first they gave her such snooty dialogues and now they feel they can redeem her only be making her suffer😕 Wonder how the Rajputs are taking this!

Agree with you completely . Jalal and ruqs grew up together , had the same thoughts and values instilled in them . So jalal is hungry for power why shouldn't ruqs be ? Esp considering that she has seen the nonsense that goes on in the harem , it makes sense that she should like to have an edge over others. Ruqs makes the right choices , if only she would be brave enough to see the truth about Jalal and his heart , there would be no stopping her . And like you said there is a ruqs in everybody . Not wanting power , only wanting small gifts , these are all morals from a 4th grade class . If you want to be above wants , there should be no wants . Not small or big wants , that doesn't make one person better and the other worse .

Also when jalal gives ruqs a thoughtful gift I'm sure she would appreciate it just as much as his grandiose gifts. I don't know why cvs resort to morals from elementary school to infuse in their characters . Jo is different , ruqs is different . One needn't be better than the other

Shyamala,
I am a big fan of your posts. I am a female physician of Indian origin who didn't watch Indian television till my mom who was visiting from India introduced me to some wonderful Indian shows as well as this forum. I am not even close to being a writer but am a voracious reader( to my husband's annoyance sometimes)... The only reason I am taking time during my limited lunch break to write this is because of the admiration I have for for posts... Very well written indeed... I used to read them repeatedly on my cellphone( something i have never done before)...However, lately I don't look forward to reading your posts... Since I admire you so much as a writer, I felt the need to communicate and tell you how I feel about the recent posts... Please... Do not take it as criticism... If you don't want me to proceed further, I will not write anything here...Thanks.

Hi Shyamala,
saw the epi 2day...loved the Jashn dance... could feel the oddity when Ja-Jo were getting blessed for their yet non-existant child...Both RT and PS were marvelous in their parts...!! While I do understand that this track was probably to instill the true faith in Ja-Jo, but guess it could have been done with a less absurd and gross track...!!😕 It's painful to see a character like Jalal being so gullible and NOT verifying the Preg news with Second opinion and jumping to the worst conclusion... And Jodha, looking pretty and pathetic at the same time, with her never-ending Omnipresent Tears and Rant (Aisa Pati Kyun Diya...Hum Jeevit Kyun Hai...Humaro ManoDasha...Shraap...Ghrinit Aarop...and obviously Vachan,Ghrinaa, Vishwasghaat, Maryada, Kalank so and so forth🤢)...
Sach...Kya Kaalik Pota hai uss Wretched Kaala Libaas ne...in dono par...!!😆
Now MA too will join the gang in rubbing Jo's wound...!!😕
Painful to see anyone in that terrible state...!!🤢

Abt Pre-Cap, can't understand how of all persons , HB , the Cheerleader Head for Jo, could believe that Jo could do such a thing...!!😲 I think this was the time when she needed to stand by Jo and call for investigation rather than accusation...Maa-Beta same same...😡

Regards,
Kamal

My dear Ariel.

Do you think that if he had questioned those around her - like who? Moti? Reva? her other daasis or the Mughal baandis attached to her? - it would have looked extremely strange and demeaning? Does an emperor go about questioning servants?

They would, moreover, have immediately smelt a rat, so where was the question of his doing this discreetly? And what, pray, would he have asked them - whether their mistress was friendly with some other man? Have a heart, my dear, this is a non-starter.

It was an unpleasant scene, but he stands it for as long as he can; the chadhar ceremony is the last straw. He needed to confront her and say it directly to her for 2 reasons. One, it is the most discreet way of doing it, and if Mahaam has not been eavesdropping, it would have stayed between them. Two, he thinks she has not only cheated him, but that she is brazening it out and boxing him in into keeping up appearances, while accusing him of breach of faith. So he needs to tell her that he is not going to stand for this charade, as he sees it, any longer. Why would he bother about how demeaning it is for a woman who he is convinced is a lying, cheating wife ?

I do not see how his imperial aura is reduced by his speaking his mind. What would have reduced it, in his own mind, is allowing this treacherous wife of his to lead him by the nose after cuckolding him.

It is also good for Jodha to know what he has been thinking of her all along. She has been hectoring him whenever he was conciliatory and making sarcastic, smart aleck comments to put him down at every turn, but now the chips are down and she sees what all can happen to her once his protection is withdrawn. Not even her saas, normally so obsessed with her Jodha beta, is prepared to stand by her now.

It is always good to have a reality check, and Jodha needed one very badly. It is a pity it had to such a nasty one,but that is the luck of the draw. Othello strangled Desdemona, whom he loved and who loved him. on similar suspicions but on far more slender "evidence".

Shyamala Aunty

PS: What do you mean by Jalal betrayed his sister? It puzzled me no end.
