If Jalal has shown some signs of care towards her in near past n present , he still shows signs of lack of sensitivity towards her at odd occasions. N he has done a huge lot of things in the past that is too bad that he simply needed to do a lot of good to settle the score to zero first. He started with huge negative points.

Few hundred wives is not the problem here I think , because most of them could easily be discounted, do Jalal even know that they exist ?? The 3 chief begums only matter.

But the real problem is an incompatibility factor , difference of hurt . What if they don't find their soul mates in each other ?? Jalal has other options but Jodha can't walk out the marriage.
