" Main teri dushman , dushman tu meraa,
Main Naagin , tu sapera."
🤣... Jodha Naagin hai jo baar baar Jalaal pe Phunkaarti hai. Jalaal sapera hai jo phir bhi jhakk maarke uske peechhe jaata hai. Aur jab wo been bajaata hai, Jodha double jhakk maarke usske paas waapis aa jaati hai. 😆
Anyway, on to the episode:
" You talk about Jodha's power, Ruqqaiya Beghum? Jodha showed you today what power is. She made Jalaaludin Mohammad, the Shahenshah of Hindustan run after her like a madman. For the first time, a Hindu beghum was allowed to keep her religion and not convert to Islam. For the first time. a Hindu temple has been set up in the Mughal fort. For the first time, a beghum's all conditions and whims and fancies have been OKAYED by Jalaal. For the first time, a Hindu queen is living her life as she pleases in this palace - to the extent that we are celebrating Hindu festivals like Holi. Jodha put up a stall of colours at Meena Bazaar and i tell you what , you will live to see the day when Jalaal will be completely coloured in Jodha's colours. And what do you talk of Jalaal's senses and his heart or his head? He himself has no idea that he is falling hook, line, sinker for this rebellious Hindu Rajput Amer ki Shehzadi Jodha."
-Maaham Anga.
" RIGHT! I married you because i hated you , because you kept that sword on my neck in Amer , because you hung a bait in front of a lion by challenging him time and again. So, what wrong did i do if i countered your hatred and humiliation by marrying you and nailing your life? Its you who started it and i reacted as per my imperial egoistic nature! ... But you! You have no right to accuse me! What did you do on your part? I may hate you but I gave in to all your demands and your conditions. Every single word that you said was okayed, obeyed and implemented! You have lived your life as a Mughal Queen as per your wishes. When i made a mistake in Ruqqaiya's case, i apologized and i did all that i could to rectify the mistake. You wanted to go to Amer , i was sending you to Amer, but if your folks don't want you ,what is my fault in there? Why should me and my Mughal honour suffer if you cannot go back home?... I am done with your accusations and allegations and now, you will do as i say. No more Rajput tantrums and you behave yourself and stay like a good Mughal queen and my beghum in the palace. Your family does not want you but i will never take away your honour of being my wife irrespective of the fact that we do not have hubby-wifey relationship... now, shut up and come with me... and BTW, I hate you!
-Jalaal.
Hmmm... the above passionate and intense chunks of dialogue - one delivered by Maaham to Ruqqu and the other received with verbal lashings by Jalaal to Jodha say a lot of things that run deep.
Maaham is vile and wicked but she is wise and she can scan a person top to bottom in one eye. While Jodha appears a fragile sulking stunning Beghum to the whole Agra fort, Maaham can see Jodha's fiery spirit and her potential to make Jalaal fall madly in love with her. Without even trying. Maaham can see that Jodha is everything that triggers , fascinates and bedazzles Jalaal- Courage. Rebellion. Arrogance. Compassion. Regal Pride. Depth. Impenetrable Shield of heart. And yes, a charming lyrical beauty to her entire persona. For once, Jalaal has married a woman who does not stand next to him - but in front of him, looking straight into his eyes. And that is why Maaham knows that Jalaal has finally met his match. Maaham is shocked and frustrated that how can Ruqqu and others not see that Jalaal changed the whole rulebook for a woman he SUPPOSEDLY hates...if Jalaal can break the rules for Jodha in his hatred, What will happen the day he realizes that he loves Jodha? ... Maaham can see Jodha rising as the most influential figure in Jalaal's life and alas! Only she can see the avalanche on the way, while Ruqqu, Aadham and others are too drunk in either their pride or else their stupidity.
Coming to Jalaal, i have no complaints with the boy king. Not because am putting him in the category of right or wrong ... its because i appreciate Jalaal's brutal honesty. Today, after going mad with anger and worry over Jodha and after saving her life against her wishes, Jalaal , in frustration told her exactly what he THINKS is the truth. He also told what HURTS him even though it was only passionate anger that shown on his face.. He told her that its true that he hates her and he believes he can justify his counter attack of marrying her , but that... all that... in no way takes away from him the credit of all the adjustments, agreements and settlements that he made and did for her. He never says WHY , but he reminds her that he has let her live her life as she pleases and she cannot shame the Mughal honour by dying 'because' of him and his folks. He makes a clean divider between what he APPARENTLY feels for Jodha ( hatred ) and what he is going to do for her ( keep her in Agra fort with all the honour and luxury of being Jalaal's Padshah Beghum ) ...but that makes you kind of amused , you know... Jisse ittni nafrat , ittni kadoorat ka daawa hai, usske liye har usool badal diyaa, usski har baat ke aage jhuk gaye , usska har naaz nakhraa bardaasht kiya...Phew! Agar ise nafrat kehte hain, toh Mohabbat mein toh log taaj-o-takht hi mehboob ke kadmon mein rakh dette honge!... Is it? Think it over, Jalaal.
As for Jodha... things have not changed much for her. While committing suicide, she only remembered Jalaal's immensely hateful words that he has married her to feed his ego and hatred. She only remembered her mother's " don'tcha dare come back to Amer" lecture... and when she was pulled out of water by Jalaal, she saw the same imperially angry face spewing the same venom at her - " I hate you and everything about you." ... TUNGGG!...Adding further to Jodha's belief that she and Jalaal are still in competition of " Kiska Ghrinaa meter zyaada hai." ...So, poor Jodha has returned to the palace with a further septic to her wounds that Jalaal has kept her alive only because she is Mrs.Jalaal , not because he cannot see her die... and that once again, Jalaal has brought her back as a trophy , but this time not to insult her but to retain his own honour. Jeepers Creepers! Mughal Mallika hokar Khud-Kashi karogee? Nahiinnn! Hamaari imperial Mughlai ijjat ka tandoor ho jaayega, Sorry, Babes. You cannot die coz you are my Padshah Beghum.
If Jalaal would have said one kind word to Jodha after saving her, the situation would have been different. If Jodha would have once asked Jalaal that why did he even think of sending her to Amer, he would have got his answer... but... but... but...forts and fortresses of ego and prejudice are hard to break , especially when you don't want to break them. When you feel that the walls of pride, arrogance , denial and presumptions are much safer than facing the home truths and rendering yourself vulnerable.
Where we are, Jalaal cannot accept or tell Jodha that he did not save her for the Mughlai Pride Cuisine. He did it because he wanted to do it as Jalaal, and not a duniya-kya-kahegi Shahenshah. Jodha cannot tell Jalaal that she cannot live with the fact that he hates her and does not want her. That whatever he says and does , does not hurt her pride, but something else that is deep inside.
Jalaal refuses to see that Jodha never wanted to leave him and go to Amer , or what the angry tears in her eyes meant or what the tender touch of her hands on his wounds held. Jodha prefers to dive into water and die over realizing the truth that Jalaal has bowed to her every relevant -irrelevant wish and that Jalaal's venom that he married her because he hates her is too much for her to live with.
JJ are a blockbuster example that how we give in to our ego, pride, prejudice , self-designed presumptions and theories, our dark side , our negatives... simply because we don't have the courage or insight to give in to our hearts.
And... somewhere close by... a vile old woman by the name of Maaham Anga can see a love story brewing... because she only sees the passion and pull of JJ , which is true, while others, including JJ revel in the plastic hatred and cowardly ego wars which are nothing but a mirage.
I refuse to talk about Ruqqu. She needs 20 almonds everyday to strengthen her brain before she opens her mouth.
Jalaal and Jodha on one horse and all the passer- bys smiling , and Jalaal treating Jodha as his private estate completely was too cute.
Moti has a lot of faith in Jalaal and she seems to have genuine respect for him. Jalaal, today, treated her like Jodha's family in the last part and not as a Baandhi. I missed Jaaveda and Resham ki aankhein disoriented me.
P.S- That awkward moment when you feel that Jalaal will cut off Jodha's hair if they keep trying to attach themselves to his hair. 😲
Precap: Jalaal's dialogue indicates inevitable love-dive with all the 'fislan' and Jodha's retort indicates an advancing heartbreak in all the 'kaante'. 😆... in donno ka kucch nahiin ho sakta. Flirting se hi kaam chalaao. 🤣
