Our doubts have been confirmed about the 'sending-to-Amer' bit. The previous time, Jodha was being sent with honour - out of her own choice - with a possibility of her return when she willed to do so.
However, this time she is being discharged/banished dishonourably!
HB
The characters in the serial seem to be just as confused about Mainawati's appearance as we are (esp seeing the crisis Amer were currently facing!)
The transition from this scene to the one where everyone's sitting at court is so sudden. If you blinked - you'd miss! CVs should know where to apply brakes when needed!
COURT
So, Mainoo darling is here and very much so due to the summon by Jalal. All of this, so Jalal could send Jodha away with the mother.
Again, this guess of mine also played out - that Mainawati's presence was to remind Jodha about how a Rajput girl NEVER returned home from her Sasural!
When Mainawati hears about Jalal's decree of sending Jodha away, she is shocked.I liked how she started off by stating that ladies never visited their daughter's sasural but that had come there anyway to iron things out.
'If my daughter has done something wrong, I'd like to seek forgiveness for that' the mother starts
'It's better we don't even start going through the Ameri princess' chapter of wrongs' Jalal interrupts
When Mainawati complains about the problems Amer had to endure because of Agra, Jalal had no regrets
'Imprisoning Jodha Begum and her brothers was a duty of mine as a king...sending her back to Amer is my duty as a husband...besides, its not like she didn't want to go!'
Needless to say, the queen mother is alarmed!
A very typical Indianized scene follows - where Mainwati emotionally taunts Jodha for having even thought about such a prospect -
'Do you know what all we endured because of this marriage? We've lost face with the Rajvanshis...your sister's marriage remains unfixed...' etc etc
(Hmmm its true that Jodha's return would debase them...its true that its very strange how a 16th century traditional Rajput girl would have come to this decision at all in the first place - after all, she would obviously know the effect it'd have on her parents' household. However, for Mainawati to transfer all blame on Jodha now made little sense too! It was them who'd compelled her to accept this wedding - emotionally blackmailing her at that time too!)
Mainawati's final phrases and statements were nothing short of threatneing 'If you dare dwell upon such thoughts ever again' 'I don't care if you don't want to see my face ever again' 'We love to welcome our daughters as guests during festivals, but nothing more' 'If any further humiliation is brought upon that household as a result of you' etc etc
As a mother; no doubt she had all that right -and even more so- to shout at her own daughter. However, one cannot help but feel sorry for Jodha! At this point of time NO ONE SEEMS TO WANT HER!
The mother then begs the Shehenshah with folded palms. Obviously, the valiant Jodha accepts her fate with open arms. She is ready to face everything and anything BUT watch her mother beg! Loved her here.
'I promise you that you'll never face any taint from your wedded daughter' Jodha assures her mother
Being the sensible husband, Jalal obviously prefers not to interfere between mother and daughter. He salutes them and bids Mainawati her farewell!
JODHA's CHAMBER
For all those who'd wondered if she'd ran away with Adham, Mothi here is well and truly here.
Now now, Jodha...you had put on such a brave face in court in the earlier scene - justifying my admiration for you!
Then why this deluge of tears within the 4 walls of your chamber? Why this long list of complaints against your own mother? Did you think you could throw a tanrum about going back home and Mainawati would drop by in her Merc Benz to pick you up?
'Shehenshah wants me to leave...Maasaa doesn't want to take me along!' she wails
Oh! So now, all blame shifted on Shehenshah is it? What about the 8294712948 times you muttered that you ghrina-ed Agra and the other 387438746238 times you uttered that you felt ghutan here?
Once Jodha took out all her frustrations on Mothi, she sends her off (I liked this brief hint of anger depicted by an otherwise always-sweet-with-Ameris-Jodha!)
I also loved the montage of Jodha's 'maika-bidaai' scenes overlapping her 'Talaaq' discussion with Jalal.
JODHA AND HER CONSCIENCES
What follows is a famous scene of three Jodhas (conscience) talking to each other. For a while, the blue Jodha made MOST SENSE!
'Had you got married into a Rajvanshi family instead of the Mughals...would you have still taken this same decision...would you have still set the same example? You are a Begum here...try and accept the culture, traditions and rules here...serve your husband well...that's your duty henceforth!'
While the yellow Jodha kept crying about Shehenshah's long list of apmaans, The blue Jodha corrected her otherwise. Why the blue one even HATES the word Ghrina as much as us lot😲!
'He allowed you to have everything you asked for...he never stopped you from doing anything you wanted...be it your religion, your customs, your Pooja, your archana or even Holi...and yet you hold such grudges against him! Then, you're right...you have ABSOLUTELY no right to be here. You never understood the traditions here or accepted it. You never became one with the people here, nor their rules...you can't keep rebelling every time to achieve what you want...better, return to Amer!' (Oh..no! Just when I was falling in love with blue Jodha!)
Purple Jodha 'Don't go to Amer...don't insult your parents thus!'
Blue Jodha 'You don't belong here...get lost from here'
On and on and on and on till the yellow Jodha is distraught 'I BELONG NOWHERE - NEITHER AMER NOR AGRA!'
HB-Mainoo
HB is so grateful to Mainawati for ensuring Jodha stayed back.
Both mothers decide together that the couple were going through a bad phase and that they should sort out their problems over time.
HB's hypothesis - Hatred generally transforms into love!
HB's solution - They must spend more time together!
(I just couldn't help but chuckle through this scene seeing all the double meaning threads going around in this forum!)
MISSING JODHA
This serial is seriously running now.
Within the clocked span of a minute, we have HB learning of the news, MA learning of the news, Jalal learning of the news, dispatching armed forces and then landing in his favourite Begum's room to whine about it!
JALAL-RUQ
The king fumes 'How can a Begum disappear from the palace so? This is unlawful...unethical...'
Watching her husband's plight, Ruqaiyya laughs to herself
'Why are you laughing Ruqaiyya?' he thunders
As usual, she instigates Jalal against Jodha! 😕
'However...all this IS important to me!' he shouts 'Mughal Sultanat's pride and honour is my responsibility! In order to preserve this, I have to find her.'
'You might not understand how a woman's mind works, but I can' Ruqaiyya replies 'A lady who has none she can consider hers and no place to go to, no meaning in life and no place she can call her own generally takes the drastic step of ending her life...besides, Jauhar is a known norm in their culture!'
His jaw tightens 'She is NOT an AMERI PRINCESS NOW...she is the Begum of the Mughal Sultanat! We cannot let her do such a thing...even if she doesn't want to live with me, that's fine..however, we cannot let her take such a decision for the sake of our Sultanat.I WILL find her!'
