"Aaina mujhse meri pehli si soorat maange,
Mere apne meri hone ki nishaani maange."
Jodha. Today's episode was all about Jodha. Her plastic hatred for Jalaal. Her fears and anxieties about having let down her mother and the Amer Clan. Her mirroring of the fact that she has failed as a wife who didn't have the perseverance and honest effort to better her marriage; a failed daughter who brought disgrace and injury to her mother Hypervati and the Rajput clan. Her internal struggle about coming to terms with the fact that its she who rejected Jalaal again and again inspite of his efforts and yet her real self hanging on weakly to the plastic defence that its Jalaal who had failed as a husband. Her shocked realization that Jalaal doesn't want to embrace her and her own mother has refused to put up with Jodha's immature tantrum exit and kind of disowned her,
Well, sometimes, you just have to see the mirror. Or even if you don't want to see it , the people standing in the mirror shove some harsh home truths right down your throat - even if you are unwilling to see them or hear them. Mirrors that tell you that wherever you are today maybe fate's decision but what you have made out of it , is entirely your handiwork.
For Jodha, it was raining mirrors and vulnerability today - and we see today's episode in the light of Jodha's presumption today that she believes its Jalaal who is giving her up, abandoning her. That its Jalaal who will never accept her and is getting rid of her.
Mirror no.1
Hyperwati.
Hyperwati , a true Rajput queen of 1500s where "Aan-Baan-Shaan" were everything for Rajputs ( to the extent that women of this clan were known to burn themselves alive in the name of honour via the Jauhar prathaa) , a mother of other kids and the wife of a suffering imperial king. I don't know about you but she made absolute sense to me in sync with the culture, society and traditions of 1500s , and the sensibility of human relationships that are the same in this 21st century as well.
The first home truth that a stunned and embarrassed Hyperwati drives home is that MARRIAGE IS NOT A JOKE and its NOT A BOXING RINK EITHER. Marriages are not sliding and revolving doors that you can walk in and walk out of at your whim and fancy. She confronts Jodha with some very valid points - Did you actually work at all on this marriage, Jodha? Did you try understanding or comprehending Jalaal as a husband and as a human-being? Do you think its some sort of a dark joke that you want to end a marriage - or rather THE marriage for which so much was put at stake? The Rajvanshi animosity, the bowing to Mughals, the agreements , the settlements? What do you think we all sacrificed so much for? To see a day when Jalaal tells me that Jodha wants to go back to Amer?
Moral : Jodha, marriage is an institution where people make efforts to make this relationship work. They try to understand each-other, make adjustments and amendments for each-other. They accept each-other with the good and the bad, they understand that this marriage is not between just two people , but two families and two cultures . They attach affection, lenience and responsibility to it. Now, just how much of the above have you done that you can dare to ask me to take you back to Amer?
Mirror no.2
Jodha's Reflecion 1.
The various moods, emotions and the frustration furnace burning inside Jodha show up as two schisms. The first reflection tells Jodha that she is not fit to return to Amer because when she goes back, she will only take disgrace , dishonour and shameful repercussions back with her which will further behead her father's heart and his honour as a Rajput king who married his daughter to a Mughal only to have her back home. You are the eldest daughter Princess, if you return to Amer, what will be the future of your two sisters and the honour of your family? Just how are you ever going to explain that just why didn't this marriage work? Your dishonour will be Amer's dishonour. Snap out of your " Hum jald se jald Amer laut jaana chaahte hain" syndrome and face the reality. You are not going to drown alone in the stigma of being abandoned - you are going to take the whole Amer with you. Kindly, do not come back to Amer with this face and spare us the horrors.
Mirror no. 3
Jodha's Reflection 2.
Jodha's second reflection slaps the truth in her face , penetrating her denial wall and her "GHRINAA" velvet curtains. Excuse me? What did you just say? That Jalaal is some kinda "Jallaad Singh" who plays domestic violence with you everyday? That he has not kept any vow or promise made to you? Step out of your self-designed glass palace , Princess and let me show you some ugly reflections. Its you who had pre-decided hatred for Jalaal and you brought it with you and nurtured it. Jalaal agreed to your every single demand - from retaining your Hinduism to the worship of your Faith to living like a Rajput with all the cultural heritage intact. But what have you given him? Opposition. Rebellion.Bitterness. Why? Because you don't want to let go of your prejudice and see him as the man that he is. What did you do to understand and accept the Mughal lifetsyle or their culture? Zilch. Think about it. In your blind hatred for Jalaal , you have only done rebel marches and hurt everyone, No, Jodha. You are not fit to live in Agra, either because you insult it everyday. Disappear!
Mirror no.4
Jodha Beghum Herself.
Jodha was at her weakest today. Disowned by her mother , "Apparently Abandoned" by Jalaal , stripped of her arrogance , anger and rebellion , Jodha was at her most vulnerable today. Maybe this vulnerability and these harsh words were needed - so that , even if for a few milliseconds, she realizes that she has done nothing to work on this marriage as a wife or to see Jalaal in the light of her husband. For the SECOND time, Jodha's feelings surface that she had wanted to be kept happy , respected and protected by Jalaal . That Jalaal does not want her , her mother does not want her and it hurts her.
It was a mistake to leave Jodha alone today when she was at her most vulnerable . Considering how hypersensitive she is in matters of her family and now, Jalaal and how she even thinks passionately , such an impulsive step was expected from her. Emotional Abandonment can be the first and the last nail in your coffin... and today. Jodha was abandoned by both Hyperwati and Jalaal as per her own evaluation. So, off she goes on her horse to dive into still waters!
Jodha's fault has not been her pride and prejudice, if you come to think of it. Her fault has been expectation of rights without putting responsibility and duty adjacent to them. I mean, today, when she talks about being abandoned by Jalaal or not being wanted by him... you recall that child in a candyshop who wanted all the candies but did not know that he had to pay for them.
If Jalaal abandoned you, what did you do to accept him, Jodha? It takes two to tango. You cannot expect a marriage to work on its own, or to see Jalaal block your way and say that you cannot go back to Amer...Unless you DO something to achieve it.
As for Jalaal, whatever he feels for Jodha was on Ruqqaiya's face as a reaction. So, am not gonna delve into that.
Its good that Jaaveda is a dumbhead because that is the only reason her realization of being married to a villain like Adham is zilch.
Precap; Jalaal is the heights of Shahenshah-panaa , man! Jodha is going to commit suicide aur yahaan bhi Jahaan Panaah use FARMAAN sunaane mein lage hue hai ki nahiin, Jodha Beghum, aap nahiin kood saktee, ye hamaara hukum hai!đ¤Ł... Jab jeete-jee teri ek nahiin sunni, toh marte waqt kya khaakh sunegi? đĄ
