The welcome
I missed listening to the Ameri music and was glad to hear segments of it during the welcome of Jodha's brothers
Also, today's welcome of the Ameri crowd showed that even sharifuddin had a greater sense of keeping up social appearances than did MA. Atleast Sharifuddin managed to show them an 'adab' even though begrudingly. MA was at her hostile worst!
I was quite happy to watch some of the courtiers and nobles in action...another temporarily missing character we had return today was Adham Khan...no sooner than he's into the palace grounds, he spots Mothi Bai - and one can see the anger cloud his face. He was obviously expecting her partly decomposed skeleton to be tucked away behind some wall and here she was standing - all alive and breathing!
Ruqaiyya
Lo and behold...we have yet another bathing episode of Ruqaiyya...but, must say she looked splendorous while getting ready for the Utsav...and she looked genuinely happy too...
MA-Adham
We are subjected to another round of stern lecture thanks to the less-than-able Adham Khan!
'Everytime you open your mouth, you seem to be taking two steps closer to your death'
the shrewd woman reminds him sensibly. He seems to have thought that the celebrations were in honour of him having successfully thwarted the Mathura rebellion.
In the second bout of argument between Adham and MA. Adham loudly declaring his intentions within his chambers appears perilous - even for his careless standards...
However, one tends to feel sorry for the brute as he weeps his heart out to his mother at her lack of motherly love for him!
The court
While everyone seems to be quite happy to receive all the queens into the court, Ruqaiyya's firm snub of Jodha's earnest smile is expected!
Jalal's entry
The 'Akbar' music that plays every time Jalal steps foot into his court is a phenomenon
The pride with which he walks into his own court
The humbled expressions on the faces of the courtiers
All of it is worth watching...all of it a scene by itself..
Jalal-Jodha
However, what made this entry more-than-special was when Ruqaiyya observes that Jalal had stopped to 'Adab'/greet the veiled Jodha for a marked second more than he'd spent greeting anyone else in that court that day.
Her dejection over this fact seemed to bring about a temporary but marked dullness over her otherwise jubilant state
Another spectacular scene
When Jalal begins expressing his happiness to his crowd of onlookers, he begins by thanking them for their arrival and gratitude. Needless to say, he does not forget to compliment the one gift that seemed to have touched him most.
Subtly turning to Jodha's direction he announces 'I accept all of your gifts wholeheartedly... however small or big they are...for me, every gift holds its own special place'
Jodha knew what he was referring to
[I also liked Jalal's hint of brotherly love when he watches his sister Bakshi Bano presenting her gifts]
Anyway, once everyone's done with their presenstations...Jalal's expression takes a 180 turn when he realizes its Jodha & her family's turn to present their gifts...almost like he was waiting for it
Jodha bends forth and gifts Ruq the special saffron 'I hope you'll accept my gift' she says humbly, explaining its significance
'When you have the opportunity, then why leave it to hope?' Jalal interrupts 'I'd like you to give Ruqaiyya the saffron milk now with your own hands'
Why, he even has the 'special' silver spoon ready by his side to complete the ceremony. Additionally, he even explains the whys and the whats of the spoon to his courtiers
While Ruq is busy thinking that Jodha and her family are being forced to serve her, she blindly fails to see that Jalal was openly felicitating Jodha and her family! (and in a way snubbing her own attitude - what with her having insulted Jodha's gift as insignificant & small!)
Anyway, Jalal's conclusive act - i.e. him acting bindaas in his own court with Rahim managed to bring a genuine smile on everyone's faces - no prejudice/sly smiles there!
Precap - Disturbing ...Ruq's miscarriage...but, didn't expect it so soon. Also, best friend or not - it seemed odd that she'd shout out the Emperor's first name when she realizes she'd miscarried instead of a dai-ma's name or a close maid's name. It is the 16th century after all...
