No, Rose, I am sure she would not have learnt how to read the Devanagari script, but the CVs had a genuine problem here. They could not have shown Jodha writing in the Persian script - the Mughal court language was Persian, Urdu being still in the future. Ruqaiya should not have known Devanagari, but someone had to read that poem to Jalal, and so they made her out to be far more widely educated than she probably was.

As for the Mariam-uz-Zamani title, Ruqaiya is cocksure that she will have a son, and she is jumping the gun most recklessly. She is not seeing it as immediate.

So are they all being very premature with the celebrations. One does not celebrate the onset of such a long awaited event (though, as I had noted above, how long could it have been awaited with both Jalal and Ruqaiya only 21 or 22 max?) in public, The older lot would have been afraid of the evil eye, and would have waited for a few months, Plus the godhbharai is in the 7th month not in the second!

Incidentally, I looked into the Ruqaiya the forgotten enigma thread, which closely resembles Hanuman's tail, and was somewhat amused by all the strange certitudes and fulminations there, which seemed to have driven you to acute irritation.

I stayed out of the debate, if you could call it that. It is not my habit to theorise without real data, and here, there is very little by way of solid data to be had from anywhere! People here seem to regard the Wikipedia as a sort of Bible, which it most definitely is not, for there is no scrutiny of the entries by experts.

Someone was actually citing the then British Ambassador's report back home. As a professional diplomat for the whole of my working life of 38 years, I felt like noting that whomever else one might trust, one should NEVER trust a Britisher, and still less a British diplomat😉. but I did not want to take time out to respond to the comments that might then follow, and so I dropped the idea!

you are far more intelligent than we are aunty,and that's why you have taken the wise decision of not to take part in the debate.. I too personaly believe that we shouldn't believe and depend on some documents of britishers..and with the strong believe some ghosts there degrade akbar,marium, I feel they surely have had some telephonic conversation..:-D..
