k my friend had asked the exact same thing and this is the
explanation i presented to her. The reason why its not preferred is
because it is a highly subjective thing to say one sang it better than the
original and these so called 'judges' who are supposed to be objective
by definition can easily refrain from uttering such comments. Now one
creative person does have the right to criticize another's work if in the
same field but comparing it to a novice is kind of insulting. The original
singer would have made the song what it is while these contestants use
the original to further improve their own rendition. Sort of like how
multiple editing sessions can help improve the lamest of all essays. Now
of course the latter may sing it better than the former but the fact
remains that had the original singer not sung the song the way he did,
these singers would not have been able to put their own take on it.
Following is easier than leading!think of it in terms of a painting .... say
mona lisa.... now no matter how many art students paint the same thing,
they wld be using the original as a guide hence it would never be fair to
actually say that they painted it better than the original coz they used the
original's help ... Now if the singer himself (Kailash Kher here) had said
such a thing, it wld not have looked insulting at all.thats all ! .... hope my
rambling explanation make some sense 😆
I don't think Vishal meant it to insult Kailash kher. I thought it was more
to show appreciation for the completely different way in which Vineet
sung it and made it his own. If you listen to Vineet's version you will see
the many changes that he has made to it and still sounded brilliant.
I was actually glad that Vishal said that because to attempt such a hit
song with such a different style and still excel in it deserves
encouragement.
