What a disgrace to the Garba/Dandiya Dance Form!

No one seems to be able to justify this dance form. What the heck was Krithika and Savio thinking? I saw there performance and it was such a terrible attempt at this beautiful dance form. Not to mention that the song choice was horrible for the dance form. Being a Gujarati I love seeing the raas/garba/dandiya dance form. But unfortunately not many people are able to pull it off well. This is what I call great dance:

Honestly, unless you are Gujju or have a good understanding of this dance form, you can't get it right. But then why even attempt it and make a mockery out of it? I'm very passionate about the dance form and hence like seeing a bang on performance.

Any thoughts?

i agree with you... they could not justify the dance...i love both garba and dandiya...they look very awesome but in actual both are very difficult dance forms especially garba...requires a lot of energy and focus...the thing is that they got confused between garba and dandiya wen in fact both are quiet different... they should have focussed only on 1 dance, either garba or dandiya and perfected in it... and some innovation in steps, performance, expressions and the overall atmosphere as in the visual effects etc was required... and ya even i disliked the song... they could have used dholi taro dhol baje or the recent Ram Leela song...bt something Gujrati would have suited it more... Just an honest opinion! 😃

I couldnt agree with you more. I am a gujarati too. No matter how easy it looks, Garba/Danidya is difficult.

You need a certain energy and the correct form to ATTEMPT it. You also need sync, because if you miss one beat, you mess up and you mess up the people behind you. I would know because I made many mistakes while learning it. 😆

But I was disappointed too. Garba is something I love and I like their effort but it is never perfect or even close.

To Be Honest, i wouldnt even call it Dandiya.

Thank you for the very nice video. I'm not a gujarati nor do i know the dances very well, but I love them! The rhythm and intricate foot movements, the twirling, the graceful head movements, the energy and the music...Lovely 😊

I just had a question...I thought one movement is a trademark in Gujarati dance, but I didn't see it in the video? The men twirl in the air and land, several times in quick succession, making their kurtas/jackets flare out very prettily...I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself well...please correct me if I'm wrong...I think i saw it in the 'dhol baaje' song in Hum dil de chuke sanam

Which movement are you talking about? The video I posted is a video of my university performing on raas. Raas is a separate dance form that involves elements of both garba and dandiya. It's a dance team, so the moves are not going to be like the moves that you see in movies.

yes- trademark because if you see that then for sure it's a garba raas but a garba raas doesn't have to have that step
^did that make sense?😕

I dont know abt Dandiya but defo dat was not dandiya or garba. I dont understand one thing if they wanted to show Indian dances especially when there is an international judge in the panel who doesnt knw anything abt Indian dances y not just show the dances in its pure original traditional form.
And who wears such clothes while doing dandiya.
All they did were lifts and as far as I know I hardly see any one doing lifts in Bollywood or Dandiyta/Garba.

if they really wanted to perform Garba they should have done something like ramleela song 'nagada sang dhol baaje'
