Jhalak leaves Jai injured

If you thought dancing was a piece of cake ask Jai Bhanushali aka Neev of Star Plus' Kayamath who had a tough time while practicing his dance steps for the reality dance show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. With his cute smile still on, Jai reveals, "During a dance sequence, I was supposed to lift my choreographer, but I miscalculated the movement and hurt my right shoulder badly. My technique wasn't perfect so her weight affected my shoulders totally and due to my awkward movement, her foot accidentally hit my right shoulder and that caused more injury." He was taken to the hospital and has been on painkillers ever since, rehearsing for the dance show and shooting for the serial.

Jeetu to judge Jhalak...

Sony's Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa judges have been finalised. After Urmila Matondkar and Shiamak Davar it's none other than 'Jumping Jack' veteran actor Jeetendra who has been finalised as the third judge. It will be Jeetu's first appearance on TV — guest appearances in Ekta's shows notwithstanding. And Jeetendra being a great dancer of his times will add a lot to the show.

Negi to dance on Mona's show

Finally the hunt for the sixth male contestant for Jhalak Dikhla Jaa is over. Mir Ranjan Negi, the disgraced ex-India hockey goalkeeper who had faced humiliation for conceding seven goals to Pakistan in the 1982 Asian Games in Delhi and is currently riding the fame express on the back of box-office success of Chak De India which is said to be based on his life will do ball-room dancing in the reality show. It took Sony some effort to convince him to take part in the show though it remains to be seen how the ex-goalkeeper-turned-coach will fare on a completely different turf.

"He is not comfortable with dancing but agreed to do the show when we told him that the show is not about dancers but celebrities from different walks of life who take up the challenge of learning new skills. When we told him about the celebrities who had participated in the first season of Jhalak Negi got convinced. He is a passionate sportsman and in the current scenario he makes an ideal celebrity contestant on our show," says Sony's executive vice-president Albert Almeida. As for the female anchor, after Shveta Salve backed out, Sony has settled for last year's Jhalak title winner Mona Singh who, incidentally, is under contract with the channel to promote, endorse, anchor and act in the channel's various properties. "After winning the Jhalak title, Mona is a hot property. She is a warm lady who can easily connect with contestants and audience with her non-intimidating and disarming persona and unique style of anchoring," adds Almeida.

Mini, Tapur, Sonali and Sandhya to show their dance 'Jhalak' on Sony TV.

Posted: Sept 13th 2007 by Ruhi Tandon

Mini Mathur, Tapur Chatterjee, Sonali Kulkarni and Sandhya Mridul

If Star TV is gearing up with their 3rd season of 'Nach Baliye' then, Sony TV is not far behind with their dance show 'Jhalak Dhiklaja'.

Mini Mathur, who hosts 'Indian Idol' and is quite popular on Sony TV, will be a part of the show and it will come as a surprise to many that Mini is a great dancer.

After setting the ramp on fire for years, model Tapur is ready to take it up a notch as she is a part of this season's 'Jhalak Dhiklaja' as well; We sure can't wait to see this bong cat go "purr..."

Next on the list is Sonali Kulkarni, who we hope has got over her 'Dil Chatha Hai' birdie dance. Sandhya Mridul, who impressed the audiences with a voltage dance in 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.' on the "Sajana Ki Vari Vari" track, is apparently good at Salsa as well and is expected to be a strong contender.

With 4 sexy women ready to shake their booty we are sure all the men are already singing, "Jhalak Dhiklaja."

Mika and Mir Ranjan Negi lead the men pack on 'Jhalak Dhiklaja'.

Mika-n-Mir Ranjan Negi

A pop singer and a hockey coach both with a common goal, to show a 'Jhalak' of their dancing skills on Sony TV's 'Jhalak Dhiklaja'.

Mika has been famous for his Rakhi Sawant controversy so if she could be on 'Nach Baliye 3' then, Mika definitely has to compete with her by participating on the rival show. Mika will be adding all the humor on the show and we just hope that he grooves to, "Aye Ganpat."

Mir Ranjan Negi is another name that has been added to the list; with 'Chak De' being a superhit, we are sure many will want to see if Negi can dance as good as he can coach.

Cyrus Brocha has cracked you with his humor and this time he will cheer you with his moves as he has agreed to be a contestant on the dance show.

Despite being on Amul Star VOI, Music Director Aadesh Srivastav has agreed to take on the dance challenge on Sony's 'Jhalak Dhiklaja'. Ekta Kapoor's blue eyed boy Ronit Roy sure needs a dance break from all the drama as he is busy rehearsing his moves. With all these boyz taking on the dance floor we are sure all the girls would cheer, "Chak De Mundeya."

All eyes on Rohit

Rohit has vociferously refuted the allegations.
Rohit Roy is in the news for all the wrong reasons.Just recently there were reports of him pinching Dia Mirza's bottom during a film shoot. Of course, Rohit has vociferously refuted the allegations. But if you thought the actor is going to keep a low-profile for a while now, think again. Rohit continues to be in his element. At a Jhalak Dikhla Jaa event he was getting very pally with the young Prachi Desai. It was all in good fun no doubt. But, the focus is so much on Rohit right now that even his harmless flirtation is under scrutiny! http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Entertainment/TV_Buzz/All _eyes_on_Rohit_/articleshow/2392983.cms

Today TV lacks creativity: Sandhya
22 Sep 2007, 0000 hrs IST,AMRITA MULCHANDANI ,TNN
I am not here just to earn money'

Mumbai tinselville's bindaas star, Sandhya Mridul, is full of beans as usual about everything that she does. In this instance, she's putting on her dancing shoes for a new reality dance show.

Dancing, it seems, is her childhood passion and she's always been "crazy about it. I was offered this show last year, but I couldn't manage to do it then. This year I had time, so I agreed to do it."

So, does Sandhya want to return to television after this show? She adds, "I don't plan anything, I don't know what's going to happen after half an hour from now, so, I really can't say, but if anything exciting comes my way I wouldn't mind doing it." Sandhya might have tasted success with TV soaps, Swabhimaan , Banegi Apni Baat and Koshish-Ek Aashaa , but she doesn't really miss it now.

"I have a life after I left television. Today television lacks creativity, the soaps are only packaged well. Comparatively films are more creative."

After Saathiya, Page 3 and Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd , what's Sandhya looking forward to in movies now? "While signing a film, my priority is not the genre but the role that is offered. I like to experiment with roles and I am absolutely fine with commercial and non-commercial cinema. Creativity satisfies me, I am not here just to earn money."

She's also anchored a sports show on television, does Sandhya see herself doing an encore? "If I have the time, I will surely take up and its not just cricket, I am fine with any kind of sports. I love sports and it really excites me," she says.

Sandhya's movie platter looks fairly crowded right now with Choki (where she plays a role of bar dancer), Via Darjeeling, BBD and a Hollywood film Great Indian Butterfly. Her dream role has to be "Rekha's role in Umrao Jaan."

And no, this Mathematics graduate from Lady Sriram College, Delhi, has no time for love now. If you want to know who's that someone special in her life, she says with a saucy grin, "My mother, my dog and my brothers". And what about a boyfriend? She's quick to point out, "No, there is just no one in my life at the moment."

Ronit and Tapur on a light chat
20 Sep 2007, 0000 hrs IST

Tapur and Ronit (TOI Photo)
We met the duo at The Galaxy, The Park.

Tapur: Hi Ronit.
Ronit: Hey Tapur. You know when I was told that I am gonna have to be a part of a chit-chat session with you, I told the reporter, 'With Tapur, anytime'.

Tapur: Haha! So, how excited are you to be a part of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa?
Ronit: Very very excited. You know I always wanted to learn dancing. In the beginning, I had the time, but no money and then when I had the money, I had no time. This show gives me an opportunity to learn and also have some fun in the process. I am learning different forms of dancing like Salsa, Rumba, Tango. Who knows, me and my choreographer might just take part in the Latin-American dance championships in the future!

Tapur: Wow! That sounds great. But you are a good dancer any way.
Ronit: No. It's a fallacy. I will tell you why people have this misconception about me. They had seen me dance in Akha India Janta Hai which was shot years ago. It took us 6 days to shoot a three minute song! But, I feel that Bengalis have music and dance in their blood and that helps.

Tapur: That's so true. But, I was initially really scared. I keep on saying that I've two left feet and modelling has taught me to walk tall with no expression and suddenly I am in a competition where expression is as important as the dance moves. But I am ready to prove myself. That is the joy of being a part of reality-based show. It gives you the platform to challenge yourself.
Ronit: Absolutely. You know, this
programme has come as a relief for me. It has allowed me to change my orbit, change my sphere and do something absolutely different. As an actor, I sometimes have to shoot 14-15 hours a day. I have to essay so many different characters, the best thing about reality shows is that I do not have to play a character. I can be me.

Tapur: That's right. When we entered this contest, we were given a script. I told the concerned authorities that I will not follow a script. This is a reality-based show and we got to be real too.
Ronit: Yes. I will not be following a script either. What is the point of a reality show if you are saddled with a script? I will speak what's in my heart.

Tapur: Know what? I am a little bit scared. I have a feeling that my height will be a disadvantage. I am a wee bit taller than my partner.
Ronit: Yes. When I saw you and your partner this morning, I saw that your physicalities don't match, but come on, that can hardly be a disadvantage. He can always wear heels. You don't have to show the height difference, you know.

Tapur : That's true. You know in the morning, you were asking me na 'What's your style?' That kind of got me thinking. I don't think I have one.
Ronit: Hey, that's good. You are not conditioned to a certain style and that will allow you to be flexible and learn faster. You are so graceful, Tapur and I am sure that you will find that
'abandoning' spirit which will allow you to let go of your inhibitions. Just enjoy what you are doing and you will be fine.

Tapur: That sounds like a crash course on dancing. Tell me are you worried about the public voting system?
Ronit: Are you?

Tapur: Yes, in a way I am. You know how things are with reality shows. So many good contestants are voted out and if you compare me with the other 11 contestants, mine is not exactly a known face. That could be a disadvantage.
Ronit: Well, to tell you the truth Tapur, I am not even thinking of all that. Judges' points, public voting. These are the last things on my mind. I am here to entertain people with my performance, have fun and also make my mark.

Tapur: Amen to that and all the best.
Ronit: Same to you too.

Mona needs an acting course

Mona Singh (TOI Photo)
We think Mona needs to take a crash course in acting too
Mona Singh's busy trying to get rid of her Punjabi accent these days. Mona has finally realised that she's got to do that if she wants to bag acting offers.
But accent apart, we think Mona needs to take a crash course in acting too. Infact initially when she came in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin people felt she was a brilliant actress enacting the role of Jassi. Of course soon enough audiences realised that it wasn't great acting, but that was talking style in real life!

No saas bahus, says Sandhya

Sandhya Mridul (TOI Photo)
"I can't be wearing heavy saris with dark pink lipstick all my life," Sandhya.
Sandhya Mridul has been missing from the small screen for a while now. That's because Sandhya refuses to be part of saas-bahu shows.
Offers have come her way but she is no mood to play either the good or the bad bahu. "I can't be wearing heavy saris with dark pink lipstick all my life," Sandhya recently said in an interview. We understand Sandhya. Just thank your stars you haven't got offers to play the saas in serials because going by the current trend girls younger than you are playing old characters.

Ronit plans to produce a film

Ticket to bollywood: Ronit Roy

Ronit Roy to produce and act in a film to be directed by close friend and cinematographer Deep

Many television actors are trying to get a foothold in Bollywood these days, it seems. One of the most popular actors on the block currently , Ronit Roy, who gave a fillip to Mihir's character in Kyunkii€ is looking for greener pastures. After his forgotten performance in Jaan Tere Naam in the early 90s, the actor has just signed up for an art house film. Ronit says, "I have been reading film scripts for the last two years. After going through at least 50 of them, I have found this one quite interesting."

However, he continues to be tight-lipped about the film, which will be directed by his good friend and cinematographer Deep. He says, "I'm very superstitious and I don't want to talk about it till everything has been finalised."

If all goes well, Ronit will also co-produce the film. Sources say that the actor is keen on setting up a production house like his sibling Rohit Roy. "I'm working on the production part, but I'm yet to take a call. The concept of the film is very beautiful. My friend Deep, who is writing the screenplay, is going to direct it as well," he says.

However, the actor rules out the possibility of making an exit from television. Ronit says, "I'm quite happy doing television soaps. I chose to do this film because the script is interesting and my role is fantastic."
