"Beeji" aka Meghna is busy relating, in her Anglicised accent, how her son made his fortune in the curry business in "Canneda" and has been looking for a "homely, sweet" bride to assist him. Nandu darts her suspicious glances now and then, but doesn't recognise her under her clever false wrinkles. "Sexy Sam" is looking a bit nervous. š
Then Beauty enters, carrying a plate of samosas. Avoiding Nandu's eyes, she looks at Jassi for reassurance. Jassi signals with her eyes that she should go over to Beeji. Beauty complies, and as Beeji takes the samosa from her she looks her thoroughly up and down, making sure Nandu notices. He is seething with indignation.
Then it is Sam's turn. He pulls on his stupidest grin and, holding out his hand, pompously announces, "Hiiiiā¦.I'm Samarjeetā¦.you can call me Samā¦.actually, y'know, kuch ladkiyan toh mujhe Sexy Sam hi bulaati hai!" ( silly laughter) ššš
Nandu looks as if he has swallowed Meghna's hocus-pocus rug whole. When Beauty approaches him with the samosa plate, he looks desperately at her, but she simply closes up her face and averts her eyes.
Vedika is on the verge of bursting. Jassi warns her to keep quiet. The rest are more successful in maintaining their deadpan faces.
Then the meeting veers to serious business. Beehi asks Beauty what she is capable of on the home front, and she starts listing all the dishes she can make. Sam interrupts with an airy wave of his hand. "Yeh samosas, gajrela wahaan nahin chalegaā¦.aapko mutton curry banani aati hai?"
Beauty: Nahinā¦..hum log shakahaari (vegetarian) hai.
Beeji: (frowning) Yeh kya baat huiā¦.mere nu toh mere puttar ke har kaam mein saath degiā¦.agar wo mutton curry kahega toh banani padegi!š”
Nandu gives her a dirty look, then glances indignantly around. To his annoyance, no one seems to be bothered. They are all sitting silently.
Beeji: Ab kuch baateinā¦dahej ki bhi ho jaye?
Bua: (pretending to be staggered) Dahej?
Sam: We-ll, yeh toh custom hai naā¦.ab main aapki beti ko iss backward-se pind se utha kar, Canada le jaunga, toh hum log itna toh expect kar hi sakte hai naā¦!!!
Billu: Dekhiye, hamare ghar mein len-den ka koi riwaaj nahin haiā¦..
Beeji: Arre, yeh bhi koi baat huiā¦.aapke ghar mein nahin, par hamare khaandaan mein toh haiā¦.uske bina toh yeh rishtaā¦
Sam: Yes, yes, agar aap itne poor hai, toh aapki beti mere laayak hi nahin hai..!
Nandu jumps up so violently that Ashish starts crying. Jassi pacifies him, while keeping her bright eyes on Nandu and Sam.
Nandu: (through gritted teeth) Oye Mr. NRIāNon-Reliable Indianā¦!!! Beauty tumhare layak nahin haiā¦??? Actually tum Beauty ke laayak nahin ho, samjhe?? Aur agar tumhe yeh shaadi nahin karni toh no problemā¦tum jaa sakte ho!ššš
Beeji and Sam put on perfect expressions of shock. Choking back laughter, Bua protests, "Nandu yeh tu kya keh raha haiā¦.agar yeh rishta haath se nikal gaya toh kaun karega hamari Beauty se shaadi?"š
There is an expectant pause. Nandu looks completely at a loss. Then slowly, dramatically, he turns towards Beauty and asks, "Beautyā¦..tum mujhse shaadi karogi???" š
Beauty looks stunned. It is Bua and Bebe who give the game away by their delighted shrieks. Amrit bows to Babaji; Billu and Puru clap each other on the back; Angel and Chaman nearly hug!āthen stop themselves; Vedika throws herself on Sexy Sam with a delighted yell; "Beeji" gives a hoop of joy; Ila hugs Jassi; and even Ashish stops crying.
Needless to say, Nandu is totally kerflummoxed by their reaction. š
It takes a while to explain things to him, and even longer to soothe his somewhat ruffled feathers. He says ruefully, "Mummy ne bhi mujhe kuch nahin batayaā¦.yeh sab bilkul galat hai!"
Bebe: (slapping him on the shoulder) Ab bas bhi karā¦..anth bhala toh sab bhalaā¦.tune jo kehna tha, keh diya na?
Nandu's gaze turns towards Beauty. He says softly, "Lekin Beauty ne abhi apna jawaab nahin diya!"
Everyone looks at Beauty, smiling because they know her answer already. She blushes and lowers her head.
" Haan Nanduā¦.main aapse shaadi karungi!!"š³
