I'm from mysore India so we celebrate here by installing the wooden idol of The KING AND QUEEN OF MYSORE PALACE and we keep them in place of Lord VISHU and Goddess LAKSHMI that means we assume that the king and queen are god and goddess.so we decorate the house and we celebrate by calling all our relatives and neighbours to see that we have welcomed the god and goddess.

bye,

Happy Navratri Everyone!!!

I am Punjabi Hindu living in Toronto, Canada. I fast for 7 days ( No Roti, Daal or Salt either just fruits and milk sweets). 8th day we do Kanjaka( giving food and red Duppatta to 8 little girls). After doing pooja and Kanjaka, I take pershad. During the Navratri every night, in Hindu Temple, we have Maa Durga, Bhagwati, Vaishno, Kali Maa Chownki ( basically it is Maa Aradhana from 6-9 P.M). On Satrurday during Navratri, We do Maa Jagran ( All night Satsang). Nineth day, we celebrate Ram Navmi ( Lord Rama,s Birthday) and tenth day we celebtrate the burning celebration of Ravana.( It is called celebration, because of good winning over evil power).

Jai Mata di,
Neelam

Jai Mata Di... Neelam

Its the same in my case

Except the Everday chowki and Aradhana
We do puja at home morning and Evening

And I just eat fruits on 7 days and on 8th Day (Ashtami) - we first give food and other things such as pens , hanky's and bangles and clips to the girls ) and later on ther is a langar (anyone can eat food in the temple) and Then we eat after everyone is finished
