Hey we can all share how we celebrate Durga Puja Navraatri at where ever we are staying right now .. Lets have some fun this festive season ..

Let me start I am Bengali and Durga Puja is the BIGGEST celebration we have. I am new to NJ till now I used to stay at NY And used to go to the Durga Pujas held at Gujrati Samaj hall and bangladesh Hindu Mandir. lunch dinner on Bhog (prasad) all the 5 days .. Then there are amazing cultural activities that happens there. So the weekend of DurgaPuja is always busy and wayyy too much fun. I am not sure what happens in NJ but I hope there are places I can go this year too, since my husband is not a Bong, I went and attended a Navraatri havan yesterday, at a temple nearby, after work. It was an AMAZINg experience.

Awww, that's sweet Angel. I don't really celebrate the fasting part of Navratri (I'd die dude! 😆 ) but the garba part, I have on LOCK! 😉 From last weekend until the weekend of October 22nd, I'll be @ whatever garba they're having. They actually stopped a lot in NY so I'll be in NJ most of the time.

Happy Navratri Everyone!!!

I am Punjabi Hindu living in Toronto, Canada. I fast for 7 days ( No Roti, Daal or Salt either just fruits and milk sweets). 8th day we do Kanjaka( giving food and red Duppatta to 8 little girls). After doing pooja and Kanjaka, I take pershad. During the Navratri every night, in Hindu Temple, we have Maa Durga, Bhagwati, Vaishno, Kali Maa Chownki ( basically it is Maa Aradhana from 6-9 P.M). On Satrurday during Navratri, We do Maa Jagran ( All night Satsang). Nineth day, we celebrate Ram Navmi ( Lord Rama,s Birthday) and tenth day we celebtrate the burning celebration of Ravana.( It is called celebration, because of good winning over evil power).

Angel, where in NJ do you live? I am in northern part of NJ. If Jersey City is near by you, then you should go play Garba there. Every year they have Garba on the street.. it's on Newark Avenue. I love going there rather than stuck in hall between crazy crowds and loud noise where you can't really understand what they are singing. If you really miss India and want to see little India, then you must go Jersey City.

Angel, I live in Marlboro (my husband is a south-indian and I am a Sindhi), so we do pooja at home. Next weekend we are planning to go to Union for a garba...You are very close to Raritan Center and also the huge temple on Rt 514. These places have garba every weekend. Try that.
