In DSS, she is called Durga as Mahishasur mardini having 18 hands, even as Shumbh-Nishumbh hantri she is called Durga but here she is ashta bhuja. She killed Durgam Danav much later even that is one of the reason for her to be called Durga.

Durga is one of her popular name, may be that's why she is called Durga. In DP too ParaShakti is called Durga.

The name "Durga" in Sanskrit means "invincible".
The Cosmic mother, energy "Durga" means "Durgeya, Apparajita" energy of spirit.

One other meaning of Durga is Durgati nashini means, "the one who eliminates sufferings".
