Nachiket had the TV on but he was not watching it mainly because he was sulking he kept looking at his watch thinking why it was taking ragini so long to get home. Aagham and ragini reached home "mum i am meeting aarav and ranbir I will see you later" "ok beta" she smiled and got out she could tease him some more. Ragini went upstairs she opened the door and smiled "hi nachiket" "hi" she walked straight to the kitchen "have you been out all day" "yes and I am fine" "who with" "whats with all the questions come have dinner" they sat down ragini was smiling "what" "nothing I just had the best day today he looked after me so well" "who is he"

'I am not telling you that!' answered Ragini when Nachiket asked her with whom she had spent the day.

'Excuse me?'

'Excused!' said she, taking in a spoonful of her food, while continuously giving him a wide smile.

Nachiket looked at her. Ragini kept on eating, the smile not leaving her face for even a second. Almost a minute had passed when Nachiket spoke finally, scaring Ragini with his loud voice.

'You were with Aagham!' He stated, like it was the silliest sentence he had ever uttered.

Ragini's smile faltered. 'Tumhe kaise pata laga?'

Nachiket shook his head while a small smile made its way on his face. 'Apna chehra dekho. Saaf bata raha h ki tum Aagham ke saath thi!'

The smile returned on her face.

Nachiket continued, 'You've got your 'mother' smile ON. Bacchon ke saath time spend karne ke baad hamesha yahi smile hoti h tumhare chehra pe' said he, eating his food again.

'Aagham hi kyun?' asked she.

Nachiket didn't look up from his plate while answering, 'Ranbir was with me and I called Aarav to ask for you. Suhani didn't know where you were either. So, Aagham!' said he, finally looking up at her.

Ragini was right. He was frantic and had called everyone to know where she was. She was feeling bad about teasing him, but the next moment, she didn't.

'Now you've got your 'wife smile' on,' said Nachiket, making Ragini stop smiling instantly. Ragini had been lost in her thoughts and realised she was staring at him. She took another spoonful of food as a way of distraction, 'Wife smile, mother smile..Kuch bhi bolte rehte ho tum!'

'Now you've lost your 'wife-smile' because you've heard Aarav's footsteps on the stairs' said Nachiket, and on cue, Aarav opened the front door.

'Hey Maa, Dad!' said he and went to the store room, telling them on his way that he was looking for his old Carrom Board.

'Now you are slowly getting your wife-blush back!' whispered Nachiket, continuing with his commentary on her facial expressions.

'Pagal ho gae ho tum, Nachiket!' said Ragini slowly, amazed at his observations. Nachiket shrugged and grinned in response.

'Dad, hum Carrom khelne lage h. Aap aaoge?' asked Aarav, coming into the kitchen, holding the board under his arm.

'Kyun Ranbir nahi aaya abhi?' asked Nachiket.

'Aaya tha. But then Tanya called. She couldn't find any cab. So, he is going to drop her at her hostel' explained Aarav.

'Tum log start karo. Hum aate h,' said Ragini, before Nachiket could speak.

After Aarav left, Nachiket turned to Ragini, 'Why do I think it was Ragini-the wife's words spoken from Ragini-the mother's mouth?'

Ragini was smiling and shaking her head, 'You've lost it!' She continued, 'I have to show you something. Help me with the dishes first,'.

Ragini showed Nachiket the poem Aagham had written and told him how they had spent the day. She was taking out mangoes from the fridge now. Aarav had called a few minutes back, asking her to bring the mangoes with them.

'And I assume you're wearing churridar because he asked you to?' said Nachiket, picking up the knives, spoons and plates from the table.

'He requested me to,' said Ragini, not wanting Nachiket's next sentence to be about how she agrees to everything Aagham says.

The next few sentences were exchanged without the words. He was amused and she was in no mood to continue this line of conversation.

She left the apartment with mangoes in hand, closely followed by him. They were still on the stairs when Ragini stopped and turned to look at him. Nachiket was caught in surprise by her sudden movement and his first thought was that she forgot to bring something. He looked down at his hands to check if he had picked up everything she had asked and found Ragini's hand clutching his wrist.

When he looked up at her, she was pale and lost in her thoughts.

'Ragini..' He called her name and saw when she came back to reality because her hold on his wrist loosened. A sense of relief spread through her face, or was he just imagining it?

'Kya hua tumhe?' asked he.

'I--I..' She started to speak, but then as if she changed her mind, she said, 'Nothing. Kuch nahi. Chalo,' Before Nachiket could stop her, she turned and climbed down the stairs.

With the kids already waiting for them, he didn't get the chance to speak with her for the next few hours. She played a few games of Carrom with them and whenever he looked at her, she seemed normal. Nachiket thought back of the incident on the stairs. Maybe she thought she forgot something and then realised she didn't. He wondered what it was. It was only late in night when they finally returned to their room, that he got to know.

Ragini was brushing her hair when he asked her again. 'Hua kya tha tumhe pehle?' He asked her, coming to stand behind her.

'Kuch nahi, bola to,' said Ragini, looking at him it in the mirror. Nachiket wasn't convinced. 'Your face had gone all white. You looked positively shaken. I am not taking no for an answer. Tell me what happened,' said he.

They stayed like that for few minutes and after telling Ragini that he's waiting for her answer, he went back to sit on the edge of the bed. Ragini kept her hair brush on the counter and went to sit beside him. She spoke only after a few moments.

'When we were not together,' she paused to gauge his reaction and when he nodded for her to continue, she spoke again, 'I often used to wonder how everything would have been, had we not separated. Hum sab ek saath hote. Nishi har baar apne problems ko leke mere paas na aati. Vo tumhare paas jati. Aagham aur Ranbir ki pasand-napasand mujhe pata hoti, aur tum--tum mere saath hote. Mahez ek sapna ya khwahish bankar nahi, sach mein mere paas hote.' she paused, and took a deep breathe. Nachiket wrapped his arm around her shoulder and she leaned back on him. She started speaking again, her voice lower than before, 'Today, when we were going downstairs, everything felt so surreal, aisa laga jaise main firse sapna dekh rahi hoon. Aur tum sach mein nahi ho mere saath. I thought I have been imagining all the happiness. And you're still not with me. The kids are not with me. I just..' said Ragini, her voice thick with emotion.

Nachiket rubbed her arm to calm her down and then spoke, 'And when I called your name and you saw me, you realised it wasn't a dream?' asked Nachiket. Ragini nodded in agreement, not trusting herself to speak anymore.

'I am here, all right,' assured Nachiket, 'I'll always be here'

The chirping of the birds on the sill woke Ragini from her sleep. She rubbed her eyes, thinking how it was already morning.

A slight movement to her right and she turned to look at him - his arm was now around her waist, holding her gently, while his face was half hidden in his pillow. She remembered their conversation from the previous night and inhaled deeply. It felt so good to unburden herself - a small part of herself - in front of him, and share her worries, her nightmares.

Oh, how she had missed him and the children. Her eyes misted up.

Lost in her thoughts, she had not noticed him wake up.

'You are not allowed to cry any more' he said gruffly, as he rose on his haunches to look into her eyes.

She smiled through her tears, and he kissed her cheeks.

Her arms went around his neck and she pulled him down to herself.

'When did you wake up?' she asked, smoothing his hair away from his forehead.

'The moment your breathing pattern changed ...' he smiled. 'And you started crying'

They lay in each other's arms staring at the ceiling, flashes of the bygone days shuffling randomly in their eyes, 10 years, 15 years, yesterday, minutes ago, their first meeting, their struggles, their kids, those lonely nights...the warmth of the kiss from moments before. Ragini closed her eyes and let out a deep sigh followed by his.

"Kya hua", she asked softly.
Nachiket shook his head and turned to her, staring deeply into her eyes.
"Aisa kya dekh rahe ho mujhe?", she utterd, with pauses between, well aware of the reason.

None spoke for a long time, their eyes, looking deeply in the other, promising the very sight at the crack of every dawn and their hearts beating away in perfect sync.

"I have a surprise for you", whispered Nachiket warmly, bringing out a shiny gleam in her eyes.
"Kya?", she asked smiling
"I made some arrangements for a desk job for you in the hospital yesterday, so you can join us for half a day from today"
She squirmed with joy, "Sach?", she asked, unable to believe what she had just heard.

The visit to the Hospital was hectic and Ragini was easily tired. But she stuck to her guns and made it a point to be there every morning, on time.
She felt ecstatic and confident, it was almost as if her life was back on track. Once again.

True, she now had both Nachiket and Ranbir around, but work gave her a kind of validation, a pleasure and she was soon pushing herself more and more.

Nachiket was pertrubed.
'Ragini, I just want you to be careful ...' he said calmly, as he manoeuvred the car down the busy lanes. He had left the Hospital early to return home with Ragini, and he was enjoying it. But his eyes didn't fail to notice the way she struggled to stay awake, while on their way home.

'I am Nachiket, I am' she replied enthusiastically. 'I love being at work, I love all these ... you know?' she looked at him. He nodded her head in affirmation, not missing the happiness now spreading across her face.

It was an anomaly of sorts - while she was tired physically, yet her spirit was ecstatic. He wished he could help, he wondered if he had made an error.

He suddenly sensed her looking at him quizzically.

'Ragini, you remember that coffee shop that we used to go earlier? before our marriage? He asked.

'Yes, I think I do. Is it the one which overlooked the Creek? I wonder if its still there?' she ruminated.

He looked at her mischievously
'Let's go and find out. Anyway, the children are not at home ...'

Ragini smiled indulgently
'Nachiket, do you need the children's permission?'

'Nah' he laughed.'I don't need their permission to date their Mom ... or to kiss her'

Ragini blushed and for a moment, Nachiket could not take his eyes off her.

The blaring of a horn a few seconds later, and his eyes were back to the road.

It took them some time to find that Coffee shop. As it turned out, the coffee shop had been renovated and neither of them could recognize it in the first place. Fortunately for them, the name was still same.
They gave their orders and found a table for themselves. Ragini was looking around admiring the modern look of the coffee shop when Nachiket said, "Kitna kuch badal gaya h yahan"

Ragini gave him a confused look, "Kitna acha to lag raha h"

"I mean--its all right. Nothing great," said Nachiket, shrugging.

Ranbir called Ragini soon after and she got occupied. Nachiket waited for the call to get over but then realized it was either Ragini on phone or him taking her back to hospital. He cleared his inbox in the meantime.

Ragini's coffee was cold but she drank it anyway.

"Arey ab thandi kyun pi rahi ho? Doosri lelo," said Nachiket. He had finished his coffee long time back.

"Rehne do. Mujhe vaise bhi achi nahi lagti coffee. Tumhare lie aai thi" said Ragini, as she kept her phone in the bag, ready to go home.
