Two weeks later

Living room

In an intense fit of rage, Nachiket smashed the whiskey glass, he held, to the ground, shattering it to million pieces. The echos of the shatter, engulfing Ragini, as she scrunched her eyes and stood, frozen. "RAAAGINIII", he roared violently, as her phone began to ring.. His eyes, red with uncontrollable fury. Those same eyes that had always been the abode of their eternal love. "Mujhe jana hai Nachiket", she announced firmly, not meeting his eye. "Pata tha! Pata tha mujhe! 15 years! bloody 15 years! They always had more importance than mere 5", he shouted in his hoarse intoxicated tone, each word piercing her, like an arrow. Her phone, that she held in her hand buzzed again.. He moved closer to grab her chin, "Do I have any importance in your life?", he uttered, into her face, clutching his teeth, the smell of whiskey from his mouth nauseating her. Ragini freed herself from his grip and scampered to her room. She sat at the edge of the bed, shivering, as his red eyes came back to haunt her. She trembled in fear, as the harsh clink of shattering glass resounded. She couldn't think, she had other things on her mind.. Nachiket had lost control, she had never seen him so mad and brazen. As she sat thinking, gripping on to her phone with unanswered calls, Nachiket swayed unstably into the room, he knelt down in front of Ragini and pulled her chin up. Closing the gap between them, he bit her lip, attempting a rough, vengeful kiss. The phone buzzed yet again.. Pushing him aside, Ragini stood up and grabbed her bag. "I am going!!", she announced and walked out, without looking back even once...

Nachiket was drunk and sorry and angry and disappointed and sad.. Multitude of emotions playing at once. He held on to the bedsheet and cried loudly, before tumbling to the ground and falling asleep.

Stunned Ragini, sat in the auto, thinking of all that had happened.. And how..

As the auto took off, memories of the past days flooded her.. And her mind rolled back to the day of their anniversary and the wonderful dinner they had been to.

Anniversary Day:

"This is a beautiful restaurant Ragini! I wonder how I didnt know about this, good choice!", Nachiket exclaimed with a smile, as he walked to the table, with his hand tightly clamped on her waist. "I knew you would like it! I wanted to bring you here, since the day I first came here, 12 years ago", she replied, reflecting his excitement, as she took her seat. As they sat looking around, a cute little boy, came running towards their table and greeted them with a "yello!", before being dragged back by his mother. Ragini and Nachiket both waved at the boy and laughed heartily. "Aagham bhi aise hee tha!", Nachiket exclaimed instantly, "Sab ko lubhata tha!". "Aarav bhi bahot shrarti tha!", Ragini added impulsively, "Aagham bhi shararat karta tha?"

"Shararat?? That would be an understatement! Aagham, jab 2 saal ka tha, usko chaabiyon se ajeeb lagav tha. Hamesha, haath mein kisi gaadi ki chaabi leke ghoomta tha, usi ke saath sota bhi tha.. Aur kisi anjaan pal mein usko khodeta tha..Ghar ke saare log milke, poora ghar chan marte the, but no luck. Usko poocho toh kabhi, backyard ke ghass ki taraf dikhata tha, toh kabhi chath ki taraf", Nachiket narrated shaking his head. Ragini couldnt stop herself from laughing as she imagined their state.. "Phir?", she said amidst laughter.. "Phir kya?, Pam ne isiliye sab cars ke paanch paanch, chaabiyan banvaye the", he finished laughing heartily.

"Aarav ke bhi kahaniyan kam nahi hai. He must have been 7-8, when he borrowed a cute little puppy from his friend and brought it home", she said. "Puppy? Aur tumhare ghar mein? Tumhari toh jaan hi nikal gayi hogi", Nachiket commented, well aware of Ragini's love (aversion) to dogs. . "Aur nahi toh kya.. ghar mein usko khulla chod diya, aur woh sab jagah daud ne laga", she continued, fright reflecting on her face, "Mere pairon pe bhi chadh gaya.. Main toh chillate hue bed pe chadh gayi!! Bahot chilla rahi thi, usko leke jao. Meri toh jaan nikal gayi thi!". "Ragini, cute sa puppy tha woh, tum toh aise bol rahi ho, jaise bada dauberman ho", Nachiket said, laughing at her panic. "Phir?". "Thank god, utne mein Dr Aman aagaye, aur unhone puppy ko utha liya aur Aarav ko leke, usko wapis dene chale gaye", she finished with a sigh!. Nachiket paused momentarily at the mention of Dr Aman, then ignoring he continued to laugh, "Aarav bhi na!"

"Suhani, I think sabse badi shaitan thi!", he added. "Woh, I think, 3 saal ki thi, jab woh halloween ke liye fairy bani thi. Usko, pari ki costume itni pasand aagyi thi, mahino tak usko pehen ke rakha usne. Ek baar, usko nikaal ke wash karne ke liye, hum sab kya kya try nahi karte the.. Pam ke saare koshishon ke baad, meri baari aati thi, mein ghoda, bus, jeep, gadha sab banta tha, phir bhi nahi ho pata tha..", he articulated. "Arrey usme kya hai? Jab woh so jaati thi, tab nikaal lena tha", Ragini said, in a "thats so obvious" tone. "Arrey, Shaitan ko koi jagata hai kya? She was a shallow sleeper as it is", he replied, earning a hard smack on his hand.

"Nishi meri, achchi bachchi hogi na?", he asked. "She was a typical girl! But uski bhi ek ajeeb aadat thi, woh gasket hote hai na.. Cooker ke, unko collect karti thi woh", "Gaskets! Unbelievable!", he exclaimed. "Haan, then she would come up with these weird games, that everyone in the house could play together, even super naani. She would distribute the gaskets to all of us sitting around and stand in the center, asking us to ring it to her head. She would keep the score and watch for cheaters. Dr Aman hamesha jeet jaate the, aur super naani, unko cheater keh ke jhagda karti thi", she said reminiscing those times with joy and Nachiket laughed at his daughter's silly games with pride.

"Aur Ranbir?", Ragini asked. "Ranbir jab high school mein tha, tab bahot ladkiyon ko ghumata tha! Whenever I saw him with girls, I would silently mutter, "wait until you find your chashmish!!". And he laughed.

"Nachiket!", Ragini glared at him and he throughly savoured her annoyance at being called "chashmish" even today!

"I used to spend a lot of time with kids when they were younger. Every friday, Me, Aarav, Nishi and Dr Aman would play Carom and cards. Me and Aarav would be in one team. We would go out of dinners. This restaurant is one of those", she added, vividly remembering the bygone days, as she finished her portion of the fried rice. Nachiket, hid well, the slight uneasiness, he felt, everytime at the mention of Dr Aman. But, now, he was well aware of Dr Aman being a frequent visitor to their home and helping out, so he didnt mind as much. He admired his beautiful wife and her, rare wholehearted laugh.

"Thank you Nachiket, it was a wonderful evening, I feel like I have relived the beautiful moments of the past", Ragini said as they drove back... Nachiket, knew what she meant but somewhere he was skeptical...

"Hospital maam", called out the brisk voice of the auto driver, bringing Ragini back to the present. Lifeless, in a trance, she walked to the room.. "Abhi soye hai, aapko bahot poocha", said the attending nurse. Ragini nodded with a sigh, as the nurse left.

Ragini took the chair in front of the bed..As she slumped in and closed her eyes, her mind wandered off to their weekend celebration at the farm house...

Nachiket woke up sometime later; the apartment was shrouded in darkness. For a while, he wondered what he was doing lying on the floor. And then it all flooded back to him. He shook his head in disgust, as he sat up, clutching onto the side of the bed. His head was still heavy, and it hurt. The inside of his mouth was all gall and wormwood and he was thirsty. As he stood up, his head swam a bit.

The water was cool as it trickled down his neck, as he splashed some more. He sighed. He was definitely being able to focus a bit better now. Stripping down to his skin, he turned the shower on and stood under it. The first splash of the cool water was a shock on his still warm skin, but it felt exhilarating after a while. Trying to gather his senses, he failed to realize the warm tears that lost its presence in the deluge of cool water, soothing his skin and soul.

He noticed that it was nearly 2 a.m., as he stepped out of the washroom - Ragini was yet to return home. He was worried but he knew that this would have to wait, their talk would have to wait. He regretted his actions but he was not in a position to encourage comprehension. His head hurt and all he needed was some sleep.

Avoiding the bed, he made his way towards the sofa in the living area and turned the TV on. Pulling his bathrobe closer, he settled down to meander uselessly through channels, registering nothing. He felt cold and alone.

And then he finally fell asleep.
