"Mom, I want ice-cream. No halwa for me." Agham declared on the dining table.
"No ice-cream today. Sabko halwa khana hoga" Ragini said in her trademark authoritative voice.
Aagham looked at Nachiket for help but he just shrugged. He wasn't going to mess with Ragini today.
"Ab kya tum logon ko khilana padega mujhe? Finish your dessert." Ragini said while filling Nachiket's bowl of halwa.
"Haan mom.. Aaj aap khilado" Suhani said.
"Yes mom, aap khilaoge main tabhi khaunga" Agham said and elbowed Aarav.
"Haan maa, kitna time ho gaya aapne hamein apne haathon se nahi khilaya" Aarav said.
This weird behaviour surprised Ragini.
"Pagal ho gae ho sab k sab. Mom, don't listen to them." Ranbir said and stood up. He came near Ragini's chair, bent down and said, "Main sabse bada hu. Aap sirf mujhe khilao." He said and opened his mouth.
Before Ragini could react, all the kids stood up from their chair and gathered around Ragini. She was baffled. She had no idea what was happening. Nachiket was sitting opposite her and he looked amused.
All the kids actually had their mouth open. Ragini looked at everyone and she didn't know how to react. Finally, amused herself, she said, "Acha theek h. Baitho sab. Main khilati hu. Pata nhi kya ho jata h kabhi kabhi tum logon ko"
Everyone took their seats back.
"Sabse pehle mujhe. Main bada hoon" Ranbir said.
"No mom. First me. I am the youngest." Suhani said excitedly.
"Mom sabse pehle usko khilaengi jise vo sabse zyada pyaar karti h. Yani ki mujhe." Aagham said, teasing everyone.
"Maa, aap aisa karoge mere saath? Aapko yaad h na ki mujhe bukhar tha kal. Abhi bhi lag raha h thoda thoda. Aap apne bimar bache ko pehle nhi khilaoge?"
"Kitna nautanki karta h tu Aarav. Abhi 5 minute pehle tak to theek tha..." Aagham said.
It was getting difficult for Ragini to comprehend everything before her. She had a small bowl of Halwa and a spoon in her hand. And suddenly she felt her hand with the spoon move and as she looked around, Nachiket took a spoonful of Halwa from her hand.
"Yummm" he said and gave a thumps up to Ragini. Everyone gaped at him.
"First Dad." He continued and then added with a smirk, "Always"
He kissed Ragini on the cheek and went to their room with all the kids shouting behind saying how unfair that was and Ragini was smiling and thinking how unfairly fair that was.
"Chalo, sab apna halwa pakdo. We are going to my room. Wahi baithke khilaungi." Ragini said and everyone looked at her. Looking at Ragini's smirk, they understood what their mom was upto. Now, she would feed all of them in front of their Dad. And he would watch. The wife in her had felt giddy when Nachiket took the halwa from her but the mother in her couldn't see her kids' sad faces.
