I started writing something and it turns out that it won't be a good idea to finish it as a one short scene/ story, so am splitting it into two parts (hopefully, provided I don't go about stretching it further, which I end up doing normally😆) and update the next part either tomorrow or day after as soon as I finish.
Just to give you a general idea, the scenario here is Nachiket and Ragini are back together and living happily together without any champakalis and chamanlals around 🤣, random scene from their daily life. 😊
Ignore errors please.
PS: The title is in correlation to the next part so don't wonder as to what went wrong in the title selection, the first part ended up being a prelude of sorts. 😆
Cheers!

SS - Dharma Patni
The minute she heard the doorbell ring, Ragini scampered hurriedly to answer the door. Without wasting another minute, she flew the door open and beamed at her husband standing at the door smiling back at her.
He loosened his tie with his left hand as he took a step inside gathering her in an embrace with his other hand and kissed the crown of her head.
She rewarded him with another cheerful smile, flashing her dimples making her look adorable, before she disappeared into the kitchen to fetch some water for him.
The hall was dimly lit unlike the other times of the day. Nachiket collapsed on the couch and threw his tie and coat aside. He began to roll up the sleeves of his shirt and checked the time. Its 2.30 already' he murmured, and Ragini is still up, way past mid night.'
Ragini appeared with a glass of water and gave it to him and extended her hand to collect his discarded coat and suit.
The kids are fast asleep, they waited a lot for you to be back by 12 but then I sent them to bed since it was way past their bed time', Ragini informed while she picked up his shoes and set them back into the shoe rack.
Nachiket watched her dutifully going about keeping his things away. He forced a smiled and said apologetically, It was an emergency and you know...' . Ragini put her finger on his lips and stopped him from completing his sentence further.
Looking into his tired eyes she said, I understand, you don't have to explain all this.' She smiled and continued, Now, if you please freshen up, I have a surprise for you.'
Life has instilled so much patience into this woman', he thought. Sensing her excitement and not wanting to disappoint her any further, he nodded and sprang to his feet and rushed to their bedroom.
Ragini skillfully re arranged all the dishes on the dining table and warmed up the dishes she'd cooked since morning especially for him. Humming lightly to herself she pranced in and out of kitchen carrying bowls and dishes of various shapes and sizes and deposited them on the table one after another.
Nachiket emerged from his bedroom and watched her moving skillfullyaround the table and arranging it neatly. He crossed his arms against his chest and stood there silently leaning on the door of their room watching her keenly. He chuckled when he saw her stumbling not once but twice because of her saree. He found her terribly cute in her disheveled state running around, her eyes looked heavy and tired yet an innocent smile played on her lips. He could have stood there for ages to watch her but was intruded by her soft voice calling him.
Nachiket!' she called out again and gestured him to come forward. What are you standing there for?'
Wow! All this for me?', he cheerfully asked as he approached the table and saw the spreads of dishes on the table, all his favorites.
Ragini beamed with pride, her vigour restored suddenly. She handed him a plastic knife before she unveiled her surprise for the day, the birthday cake she painstakingly baked for him.
Nachiket smiled knowingly at her and gathered her into a warm embrace and said,' Thank you so much for doing all this single handedly'
Happy Birthday Love', Ragini whispered against his chest. She felt her eyes pricking but blinked away her tears immediately. Now is the time to celebrate and not brood over the past, she said to herself.
Holding her soft dainty figure in his arms was enough to make this day special. It was celebration in true sense after fifteen years to just hold her securely in his arms, to breathe in her soft feminine scent, to be there comforting one another in silence.
He found his voice and whispered, Thank you darling for all this but more so for being there now; at this moment and all the moments to follow'.
Ragini smiled reassuringly and held his hand to cut the cake that read,' Happy Birthday Nachiket'.
He paused for a second that confused her and she looked up at him. He sighed briefly and said,' It's finally YOUR Nachiket's birthday, Ragini's Nachiket's birthday today' and pointed at his name on the cake.
It didn't take too long for her to realize what he meant and she replied, It will always be Nachiket, Neil was someone who never belonged to me...'
Poking into his dimple she coyly said, This guy here is mine and it's his birthday.' She rose on her toes and quickly pecked on his cheek and whispered, Happy Birthday'
Nachiket laughed heartily but was hushed by her immediately to not wake others up. She sang the birthday song in a small voice while he proceeded to cut the cake.
