Chapter 33
By the time she understood the ways of society she had NK beside her, the love she craved for all those years from a parent was channelized to NK, the feeling of loneliness came back when he was taken away but she managed it keeping in view his bright future, in line came Arnav, making her see a different world apart from her home and shop. Their relationship started because of her worries towards her friend's safety but they have come a long way, in such a manner that she couldn't remember any other name than his when she is either happy or sad. Hence she kept trying the only person's phone to take help now in this crucial moment.
After speaking to Arnav, she sat jotting down in sequence the incidents which took place in their life, when the phone started to ring and it was a call from NK. He sounded weak and scared, was crying asking her to come and take him away, at first she thought he was missing her and hence this kind of request to get away from there and calmly asked him to pass the phone to the warden over there to ask for if she can come and meet him, but he straight away refused her telling about this phone call to anyone else as people here would beat him black and blue for trying to contact anyone without their consent. He further explained that at this moment he was standing under a shower in the bathroom and speaking to her by stealing away the warden's mobile. A few more worried questions from her and she understood everything was surely not what it seemed to be, everyone else framed it as her false worries but her worries turn out to be true. Something wrong surely was happening and NK was not able to tell much as he was continuously crying, begging her to come and take him away. She tried calming him down and saying that he would miss the school and his friends to which he answered that even his friends didn't like being here and wanted to escape from there in any way possible. She tried to tell him that it is not possible to walk into that place and take him away simply as she isn't even aware of his location but he wouldn't hear the end of it saying her about the location he wanted to say further but hearing a noise from outside he suddenly cut the call saying that he would be waiting.
She was not able to decide how to proceed, whom should she turn for help? Arnav's phone is not reachable, even if it gets connected what can he do when he is far away? Should she approach Police? But it may put NK's life in risk if the people over there came to know about it and there is no one till now who said ill about Shakshy, there is no way they would come running to help her without solid proofs that something is wrong over there, which she doesn't have right now but her intuition says that something is wrong and her friend is in deep trouble. She looked towards the clock it is close to 11 pm, there is very little time left, the place he mentioned was far off to the other side of the city if she didn't rush now there is no way she can reach him before the dawn of next day. She didn't pay attention to the time while writing down and in a way, it did well because she was able to speak to NK, but why did NK call at this hour on the shop number? He knows no one would be there to attend it, maybe this is the only number he has through which he can reach her. She hurried up as there is no way anyone can come to her help while closing the shutter she remembered Lavanya and rushed inside again to call her. Her phone was busy, with a frustrated sigh Khushi noted down Lavanya's number on her palm and rushed out to find a cab to reach the place.

One moment he was beside her, nuzzling her neck and next with a phone call he rushed out banging the door shut with very little effort and she took it as her only source to escape and held the door from completely getting closed, once his footsteps where out of hearing, rushing into the room again she started searching for her mobile but her attempt turned to be futile, giving up searching in her room she ran to the other room where Shyam stays and tried looking for in draws besides the bed and luckily she found it after a few more minutes of search. With trembling hands, she tried turning it on but it wouldn't budge as it got dead due to low battery, cursing her fate her search for a charger started, it was getting difficult for her to see anything in the darkness and she can't take a risk of getting caught by turning the lights on. The fear of getting caught was getting on her nerves which isn't making it easy for her to stay focused.
A few seconds later she heard a noise and ran half away towards her room closing her mouth to stop from sobbing aloud. Tears rolling down her cheeks she waited for Shyam to make an appearance in front of her but nothing of that sort happened. Holding the nearby lamp in her right hand as a weapon she crawled towards the main door with bated breath, ducked herself in the darkness trying to grasp the unclear words in the lawn. A van was seen outside and Shyam was standing with his back to her speaking to a man opposite him. For a fleeting second she thought of running out and asking for help from the unknown man but later decided against it as he can be Shyam's ally, she later thought of hitting them with the lamp and rushing out but they would surely outright her so canceled it too. Whatever it is she has to play it smart because she may not get a chance again like this, thinking so she ran into the house again trying to look for a way to escape.
The charger, it lay there beside the sink in the kitchen, thanking the almighty she put it in the socket and connected it to her phone hoping that a few seconds of charge would at least help in making a call to her family, keeping her senses alert she ran her fingers over the kitchen top trying to locate some food and water to get some energy. Filling her mouth with the whole slice of bread lying on the floor she filled her mouth with water from a nearby jug. He may come back any moment she has to make it fast, pocketing the phone in her dress she made a move towards the back side of the house and jumped out from the window. In the hurry to leave she left the lamp inside in the kitchen and she realized it when she heard the sound of engine stating that the van was making a move. There is no way she can come out if she goes back, so praying to the almighty to make her escape without having a fight she ran to the side and waited for Shyam to get in so that she could board the van and make an escape first. Shyam walked inside after speaking to the man and Payal tried to get into the van when she saw him coming out again holding his car keys in his palm. She ran with more speed towards the back of the van, holding the rod placed on top she hanged to it hoping against hope for her to be not traced in there. It was surely her day and the van moved out while Shyam was getting into his car. Payal jumped down once it was out of the gates and ran into bushes. She heard the van traveling for few seconds down the lane and stopping there. The place is not known to her holding her phone in hand, trying to start it she hoped she is running in the correct direction.

They are smiling, blushing looking at each other, he was teasing her saying sweet nothings and she was no less in giving him compliments at his looks. They are surrounded by their family members and all of them are hushing between them with lovely smiles looking at the couple. He tried stealing a kiss from her and she slightly pushed him trying to convey about the surroundings.
"THUD" with that she woke up with a start. Silly her again dreaming of their wedding day. She looked beside her to see the water jug on the floor, she was pushing Rohan in the dream but in reality, she pushed the jug placed on her bedside table. She felt for her phone on the bed and unlocked it to look for the time when she noticed a few missed calls from Khushi. It was half-past 12 and Khushi called her close to one hour back. what was she doing in the shop at that time? Was there an emergency? Is she in any trouble? She was alerted at once and she tried calling back but there was no answer from the other side. Now she has to wait until morning to even go out and check on her.

She scans the place with anxious eyes, she has somehow reached here but how to convey the same to NK? how to get him out? The building looks haunted in the darkness and there are men keeping guard to it. At least she was thoughtful and made the taxi halt a few streets away from the place if at all she made a grand entry in the taxi she would have got noticed by those men. The options for her to reach NK are fairly limited so she tried to gauge the place and it's surrounding trying to move in the dark and make as less noise as possible, apart from her noisy breath there is no sound and as much as she tries to envelop in silence she kept stepping on twigs. After a few minutes, she heard the buzz around the men as she saw a truck stopping in front of the building. She silently ran towards it and stood a little away thinking of ways to enter the building. There is only one way she could get in there and that is through this van if at all it goes in, few men stopped before it and started unloading boxes from it silently and Khushi took it as an opportunity to move in along the sides of them holding a smaller box covering her face with the dupatta and tucking the ends of kurta in her leggings she tried to make herself appear like a lean man if at all they notice her in the moonlight. Once she entered the gate she started to think of ways to reach NK because in the darkness they couldn't recognize her but inside the building, the lights were turned on now unlike before.
She reached the back of the building where the lighting was low compared to the front and gasped when she saw NK curled up in a corner shivering. With small steps, she reached him and placed her one hand on the shoulder and with the other closed his mouth so that he doesn't shout in fear thinking it to be someone else. Once the realization dawned on NK's face his lips curled into a teary smile. Even in the very little moonlight, she can make out that his eyes were swollen due to continuous crying and boy he looked he was starving since days. It was time to escape not getting emotional, gulping back her tears taking his hand into hers she stealthily started to move towards the front and started running once they are near to the gate. They didn't stop to look behind if someone noticed them or if anyone was following them. They heard the screeching halt of the car in the silent night and ran further towards the woods. The sharp branches cut through their skin and clothes but it was least of the time to think all that, the moment she saw NK curled up like that she understood he was in deep trouble, the mode she adopted by taking him away may not be correct but the place gave her negative vibes and once she saw her friend's face she could no longer think rationally. She never thought of any plan but just followed whatever came to her mind at that moment.
Wiping the sweat from forehead, she collapsed onto the nearest rock. Arms and legs all bruised and cut, clothes looked like rags tattered. It had not been long before she heard the heavy footsteps nearing them. Time to run again. Wind knocked out of her lungs when she couldn't find her companion beside. NK was missing where did he go in a nanosecond she relaxed? She can hear the hurried footsteps nearing her and started to look for NK when she noticed the boy standing still looking at something, looks like someone traced them, looking for something to hit them Khushi found a hard fallen branch and holding it with both her hands she rushed towards NK and was about to hit whosoever in front of him but stopped short mid-air seeing the person.

IMP NOTE-The story is getting to the start that is the first chapter where NK and Khushi are with each other, Our story started at a point where both of them are together and Khushi is worried for him and she goes back in her thoughts as to what has transpired and how they got separated and how they met again - all these chapters are her thoughts only. Now once they are together the story continues in present. Prologue 3 has come in this chapter and only prologue 1 is left to make an appearance in the story.
Personal life is all messed up hence couldn't update frequently.
