There's a moment
between a glance and a kiss
when the world stops
for the briefest of times.
And the only thing between us
is the anticipation
of your lips on mine.
A moment
so intense,
it hangs in the air
as it pulls us closer.
A moment
so perfect
that when it comes to an end,
we realize;
it's only just the beginning.

How much did they extend that moment in the Diwali episode? Those 4-5 inches of space between them never to be reduced...
It reminded me of a beautiful movie called Cinema Paradiso. It is about a little boy growing amidst films as he helps and later works at a small village cinema. The priest had requested for any scenes that had an embrace or a kiss to be removed by the projectionist before showing any movie in the cinema. Almost the whole village had gone to the cinema to watch this one and as the main female lead is pulling the tie of her lover, bringing him close for a kiss the scene changes to them getting up from their hideout. The reaction is so gorgeously portrayed: frustration, anger, annoyance, resentment, a few irritated ones voicing their displeasure, a child laughing...
All of those reactions were mine at this almost kiss...
You have written their angst at being interrupted very sagaciously. The repetitiveness of certain phrases through almost all the misses, the chopped dialogues, the cut scenes that result from someone's interruption, the abruptness and the lack of continuity in the scenes as they cannot move further than just the beginning of an embrace; all make their irritability and angst grow. I was ready to lock the doors; drive everyone to the furthest mandir possible; steal Aman's phone; send the Prakash brothers to the market to buy tamatar, paalak, or maybe even lauki; quickly come back and join the Little Mermaid's chorus of "Kiss the girl"...
All in vain...
I loved your twist of her kissing him. Your ambiguity of the kiss #1. Were they interrupted so much that there was no other kiss but that little peck of their wedding night? Or did the wedding happen quickly because of their frustration at all the misses? Was Arnavji so clueless, couldn't he find an opportunity to kiss her on all those car drives from Shantivan to Lakshmi Nagar? Was NK always there? Poor Khushi...having to do everything herself: confess, be ready to fight her family, even dragging him for a kiss...
Such a wonderful OS! There was so much fun and irritation, memories of other almost kisses, hearing the voices of the characters from the soap (Buaji is till very loud...), remembering how I came to love it. It has all the elements form the soap, but it feels so different from it. Your writing brings forth all these little details, that made IPK so enjoyable to watch.
A wonderful experience reading it, somehow ruined by your "meanness"...only a light peck...ufff
We are a curious lot...an earth shattering kiss is required to satisfy us...and you stopped just as he started...🥺
