Remember Khushi Kumari Gupta, I will the only person to paint you with the arch of colors of sky on every colors day (HOLI).'
The husky voice replayed as an unstoppable old tape recorder in her so called pagal mind as he called. Where is he now? She always known him as a man of his words but never thought he is a liar. Why should he make promises which he can't fulfill?
The mere thought of the unfulfilled promise made her beautiful fingers cuddle into a tight fist. Where is he? Can't he come at least to fulfill this promise?
Her curvy doe eyes blinked swiftly to avoid feeling the moistness on her cheeks. She knows he doesn't like feeling of a damp cheeks under his touch while he comes to color her.
A small hope... It was a small hope. May be he will come here to fulfill his promise. She doesn't know when he will come. She better be prepared. Her laad governor can appear before her just like Jeanieji.
Her laad governor... He hated the word as much as he loved it. Isn't strange that one can hate and love at a time? May be but then she is doing the same thing. Hating him for not yet coloring her at the same time loving him so much that she can't wait to see him, to embrace him, to feel his masculine scent. But no... how will this come true? He is saat samundaraway from her.
She waited for him. She believed in his promise of painting her with hues on the auspicious day of colors. Painting her? A chuckle escaped from her. Unknown to him, he already colored her.
Her eyes lands on the different plates of color powders kept for the celebration on the day. She remembered his words clearly from the day years ago. It was the eve of the colors day. As per the government rule, the colors day was a holiday. Before winding up the class, the students requested Professor Raizada, a history lecturer and a great philosopher in Kalinga University, delivering a speech on Holi.
Accepting the wish of his students, he decided to orate on Significance of Colors in Rainbow.
It was certainly not the first time for her to hear his speech but then, every time she does, she feels him more close to her. Why? Neither her heart nor mind, could give an answer.
He compared the colors of rainbow with the colors used in holi.
The first and foremost ray in the seven-hued rainbow is red. His favorite color. Red signifies Passion and interest. He said, If we color a person with red, it means we are passionate about them.'
Even without being present, he painted with the tint and became a person who she is passionate about. The dance on Payal jiji's sangeeth proved it to her. He was not the only one who desired her, she was equally passionate about him.
ORANGE- A shade born from red and yellow which has the fierceness of red and control of yellow. Orange - Equilibrium', his words echoed in her. They both are two opposing forces from opposite poles. These two poles are balanced in a state called Love. Yes, Love is the force which got the Tom and Jerry Arnav and Khushi together.
Her thoughts went back to his next words. YELLOW-Energy. The color of sun, full of energy. If you are colored with yellow, it denotes that the person is full of energy. He/she may be the reason for your life to be bright.'
Arnav was the source of energy for Khushi. She seek out for his arms when her babuji was hospitalized. He stood as her source of energy brightening her life just like the sun does.
GREEN means growth. Coloring green indicates we wish for the growth, expansion and betterment of the person.'
Her hands reflectively lands upon the place where a life is growing inside her. Arnav gave a life which is growing inside her. He doesn't know about it. She is waiting for the moment he returns and color her with green to share the news with him.
She knows she call tell him by other means of technology but she wants to his ecstatic face when she reveals this news to him. What will he want? A boy or a girl? Her lips curved up with the joy of a life inside her.
Her irises moves on to the next plate. Blue - Color of distance - Color of skies, heavens, oceans. Makes us look beyond the immediate environment.' His words reverberated in her ears.
Blue... OCEANS...Arnav. Blue reminds him of her. ARNAV means ocean. Blue is the shade of ocean. The distant view of the ocean from the bank pretending to meet the sky at a point is pretense. Arnavji's anger is a pretense. He presents his anger to hide his love, like the ocean hides the truth that it can never meet the sky. He doesn't want to get hurt again. Life has taught him lessons in his early age.
Next plate contains Indigo. Indigo symbolizes self-mastery.' Again, Arnavji possess this trait. His ability control himself amazed her to no end. He was able to take care of his family and his di when he lost his parents. He hid his sorrows buried deep inside him and helped his di when they found the infidelity of his jijaji. She is happy, that she is the only person from whom he doesn't have to put the mask of self-control.
The last color he spoke about, Violet. Violet represents uniqueness.' Her Arnavji is a unique person who says what the as much times as he breath, who has anger on his nose always. Possessive for his di, for the all things belonging to him.
Remembering his speech made her suddenly realize that her arnavji, without being present physically next her, has already colored her. Now, she understood the meaning of his sentence.
Remember Khushi Kumari Gupta, I will the only person to paint you with the arch of colors of sky on every colors day.'
He never meant coloring her with the color powders but meant about coloring her life with his presence, existence.
Out of nowhere a hand smeared powder of different colors on her face. She was startled and looked at the source.
Happy holi Khushi...' There he stood in his white pyjamas, smiling at her. Arnavji.. You came?' she beamed with joy and was soon in his embrace. Her tiny hope came true. Her Srnavji appeared before her just like Jeanieji. She was so happy seeing him after two weeks.
Still in his arms, her eyes caught her reflection in the mirror. Her face and some part of her upper body smeared with all the colors about which she was thinking now. He made his presence felt in each of these colors.
Coming out of his embrace, she took his hand and kept on her stomach.
Happy holi arnavji... from both of us.' As soon as the realization dawned on him, she was gifted with what she was waiting for, his look.
