1985 Dec 14th, happens to be a very special day for me, as my mother bought my first Veena that day. it was all her interest really to have her children learn the art forms they couldn't when they were young. Rs 1000 , must have been a considerable amount those days now when I look back, but they had their priorities cut. She is not around now.. I am left with my obsession for music if not expertise!

you made 1985, 14 december even more lovely and full of love. rs 1000 was the biggest cash gift i received that day. from dear friends of my parents. aunty or tubu mashi as i called her and i was very close to her, said it would have had one zero less if they were still living in india. rather difficult circumstances in assam where my dad, her husband and many others we knew and cared for worked and lived, had led to a mass exodus... to kuwait. and bigger money. so, one thousand, not one hundred.
your veena, your mother's gift. you know even my parents so wished me to learn music... a music teacher was appointed at one point to teach me to sing... rabindra sangeet and light classical. i resisted with all i was. after a year my teacher begged to leave. but both parents had a huge love of music and of many kinds. it's such a weird and wonderful joy to play for my kid the songs i grew up listening to. she resists, i persist... but not enough not enough. there was music every day at home... i sort of got my kid to learn an instrument she wanted to... violin she chose, from a young age. she doesn't practice, doesn't try to get really good at it, but she also never says yes when i ask her if she'd like to give it up... for almost seven years, weekly lessons have gone on... i bet even if she never becomes a great player, something good will come of it. i trust music... it releases you. your mother gave you a priceless thing really.
yes i might have mentioned the date earlier. leave the boy alone? aww but he reminds me in such fresh ways of the thing of aib and bair, this ishq. and makes me fall for my buddha even more. complex this love thing i tell ya.
