Yes Issk how this rather much sophisticated and liberal man and a girl, modern in her own way with her independent thinking, transport one to the classic era of the 50s and 60s...with an element of shyness, hesitation, even innocence and that unescapable air of romance.. that one is engulfed in sheer beauty, rapture and unending euphoria...

And, did I say, it is rare to see as many close up shots of any one on TV as these two, esp that man of intense emotions... or it needs so much of conviction and guts on the part of both the director and the actor to offer the viewer such a close look... and ofcourse that left us all inundated!

This scene would remain my most fav romantic scene .. we have minced this scene here.. still it remains fresh...I have actually set out to write some thing on 185, but ended up recalling this one..how the import of a few things, the first week of Nov, Diwali changed permanently...missing Arnav/ Khushi all of a sudden.. call it pagalpan or sanka.. may be all good things have to come to an end.. like Wiwy's story!

Horizon, I so agree with you. This is the most romantic moment and it was when I just started to watch IPK so it holds fond memories for me. From that first scene when they walked in opposite directions but both glanced back I was a goner.until the almost kiss my heart stood still! Happy Diwali!

Why is the poolside lit with lamps all about and the warm glow is soft like a candlelit room?

It is the perfect place for romance;

a place for me to get lost in emotion.

Why is the poolside, a safe haven to let down my guard and allow all that I am feeling to burst just like the crackers outside on the streets?

The little boy guilt for having her payal is no more, I will take the precious payal and clasps it around her ankle.

This precious payal was her mother's and was returned to its rightful place on Kushi's ankle and I feel content.

She brings her sari down passed her ankle and he stands up; she does too but there are many unspoken questions lingering in the air.

Please let me know, My Dear God

Why did I walk away?

She watches me, almost disappointed that I am leaving,

but I turned around,

I was compelled to

as she nervously wrings her hands and looks away.

Seconds pass but it seems like an eternity and then her eyes slowly shift upward gazing into mine.

She has just given me permission...

that was all I needed.

He starts walking towards her intently looking into her eyes, her lips quivering and for every step forward he takes, she takes one step back. She too can feel it, the strong attraction and mesmerizing pull.

Thud...

there is nowhere else for her to go, she is up against the wall, cornered.

He is coming closer...

closer...

she can feel his breath upon her skin.

He reaches and caresses her face,

she closes her eyes in bliss,

his touch so appealing.

Her breath starts as a shallow pant, high in her chest, but then deepens and comes hard and fast;

he moves her so much.

Her hand clenches her sari.

Her pink luscious lips are calling him...

and ever so slowly he is answering their call.

He wants her with all his being;

he can't fight it anymore.

Just when his lips are about to touch hers,

RRRINNNGGG...

reality hits..

eyes open...

STUNNED!

His hands release her as if he has been burned.

SIGH...then😭

i am so glad you said it. their work is indeed a serious matter of research. i was just replying to stg1 on my "what's in a jodi" thread and she'd ranked this pair along with the best books and movies and higher... and i wanted to say precisely that. if art is supposed to stir us and make us reach places within us we didn't even know existed, then this jodi certainly created art. and the scale of their impact, so visible in the huge amount of work on this the most active if forum, and beyond... points to a relevance that is worth noting. sohara's nani ji doesn't come here but she feels as intensely as us about asr khushi. same with my aunt of 73, my cousin of 49. my niece of 20.

For me IPK is full of innumerable Oscar moments. In reality I have no right to say that as I am not much of a movie watcher, but these two make me just assume so. Depending on what little I have seen, sometime Oscar best actor selection is not exclusively about acting skill. Sometimes why I feel, it's about execution of an intense act or delivery of a powerful dialogue in the absence of sustained exceptional facial expression. The brilliance shining in brief clips, but the rest being average.

Here what Barun and Sanaya perform, I don't even feel like calling acting. We are showered with lengthy sequences where the actor's distinctly varied microexpressions compell us to play, stop, shoot, replay all part of the worthy microdissection. The actor giving his personalized, customized best, blending in the character and fading away as if the actor didn't exist. Someday I wish my daughter could appreciate IPK for the art of it. Right now her young sensitive mind will reject the controversial women's issue involved. Look at the payal scene. To time and sync like that seems superhuman, so complicated. To treat her with so much love, care and reverence, what is the man thinking about her in his head. A goddess? Is her feet the place where he belongs? Divine devotion??

Hi!

Miss you all!

AD still has a grip on me, but attempting to break free...i knew with Diwali around the corner, our own IPK style Diwali celebrations would be on.

stickout ears, red saaris...more stick out ears...pool side and stickout ears, jaadu, nasha, payal returns... um stickout ears and more stick out...how could i not try to breack free?

hehe, i only see the last page and my i knew you guys woudn't let me down! so much to catch up on. one day dammit!

been living at the hospital these days so couldn't get on much, but with my trustie iphone any free time would be spent googling "Barun Sobti" for new articles...arnt movie promotions great. very excited for the new movie...and even more excited to hear about the weekly he is considering...

also i put in my vote "Sexylist2013" on twitter for him, and looks like he is #3 as of today, after Hrititk and Ali...voting is still on so all you twitterwasis, go vote!

that was such a great way to miss a handsome exciting man and a beautiful intoxicating woman. or should i say an intoxicating man and magic touched woman awake both suddenly to viceral attraction that went viral across the planet.

still communicating from phone so couldn't quote, i loved your post and the intense description of the two on that poolside tryst. i feel the pull he felt every time i see it in my head... from the moment he saw her surrounded by lights to that ring of the phone, there wasn't a moment he wasn't walking to her needing her holding her thinking of her kissing her and she could feel it all want it too.

i so miss them. thanks for that lovely piece.

Ami, you sure are going to live for 1000 years. I was going to pm you today. Great to see you here. Yes, we are aware how AD needs our absolute undivided attention some times. I am glad you are able to be there and take care of things personally. But also glad that inspite of that busy schedule, you are able to keep in little touch with all the things here.

Yes, the definition of Diwali seemed to have changed for us, we are still raving about it after 2 years. ... A thing of beauty is indeed an immense joy for ever...Miss all your insightful takes and talks!

Viv, that is very apt ode to these two actors who lived these characters, or made us feel so, while they were in it! People rave about 3 hr movie performances where the said actors at best get 1/2 hrs of screen time and as you rightly said may even take away some of the elite awards.. but what these two have delivered.. not one not 2.. but for several months in succession... scene after scene.. every time with the same perfection and lan .. taking them to extra ordinary levels!

That bending on knees and attending her feet with utmost tender and reverence... the most earnest proposal from a man perhaps!
