Thank you so much for that. I will surely ask if I come across any such difficulties. Sometimes the things just don't work. It took me 2 weeks to make my OS members only just because it was not working 😕

And as the post is such a hit and i can see many of the writers commenting here..i would like to add one more point here about the thing called Plagiarism..I want to knw...do all the writers think that everyone who is commenting less or not stalking the ff's thread is a potential plagiariser??

I will speak as an author who has tried the blog route and took a U turn soon enough and is planning to go blogging again (making sure this time that it doesn't out to be the pain it was before). If I get a PM with the subject heading 'Blog link' and when I open the PM it says 'Give me your blog link'. I will feel bad because this person comes out of nowhere and asks me for my blog link (which was private then) with no words for the story. So as an author you do feel bad and when you refuse, they have paragraphs and paragraphs to speak on how bad that author is with no words on the story which they want a blog link of. I remember giving away the blog link (8 months back) to readers I didn't even just because they asked me politely.

I think I digressed...Sorry...

And it is not a commenting reader who can be a plagiarizer, any member of IF (In case of Members Only posts) and any non member of IF (In case of an open post) can copy the works. By going blogging, you just narrow down the possibility. That's it :)

This is clearly how I see the blog issue, others might think differently :)

Mostly everyone is ok with the concept of blogs..and i also do understand the concern of the writers for their work being copied..But i think a writer's biggest strength is his/her readers..so this biased approach is disappointing..

Yes, when I am not friends with the author but I read and comment on the story regularly, I will be disappointed if I don't get the blog link. But it is true that being friends with an author has its benefits. I have availed those benefits in the past and I still do and I won't deny that :)

So basically u mean..everyone believes in the concept of chaatukaarita..Sorry it was not to hurt u or demean u..I m just appalled by ur response..Anyways thanks for the reply..

I too hate blogs and I don't know what will I do about mine

4) I totally agree with your point [e] -Bias. Cannot read and like any work of an author if I do not like them as a person (or of what I perceive of them). Totally silly... but that's how it is.

I too feel silly and tell myself so many times "Look at what he/she is saying and not who is saying' but I can't bring myself to do that

9) Personally I dislike it when writers give that comment-or-I'll-delete-you threat. But then, as I writer I can understand the frustration... so no hate 😃 Also that doesn't make me want to not read their work. But I just simply dislike it being said.
The ideal thing for the reader to do is delete the writer themselves so that they don't have to go through the pain of PMing them.

I don't understand the point of asking for a PM or any notification if you don't even open your inbox! Why make the author do extra work? I know! Why doesn't a reader delete the author from the buddy list?

10) Glorifying "fair" skin colour as against dark. Not cool. Not appreciated. Turn off. Now. I say this because I've read it. The authors don't necessarily mean to do it.. but they simply don't realize it.

Actually, some people (both readers and authors) are trying to say something else but it ends up looking way different from what they intend 😕

Okay enough said 😆 But putting myself in a writer's shoes...I would like to suggest you to make a post about a writer's viewpoint on stuff readers say/do. I'm sure I would have a lot to say on that too 😃

I have always a lot to say *face palm* I wanted to make this post a few months back and managed to do so only two days back 😛 And if someone makes a post for authors then I would love to participate in the discussion :)

P.S- I just realized I'm borderline bitchy here 😕

Then what am I? Stating your opinion clearly and nicely doesn't make you bitchy or nasty :)

Thank you for coming back to the thread with your views :)

Since you mentioned about dedicating the updates, I just thought to share this (I want to get it off my chest!) I started dedicating my updates as early as July, 2012 and have dedicated almost all updates to some readers. Recently I went back to check old comments (Yes, I often do that) and I noticed that the readers whom I have dedicated the updates to have disappeared. Not all but 95% of them are no longer on the forum! So I am stupid enough to think that my dedications are jinxed So I now scrap more readers than I used to before and try to avoid the word dedication and say a special mention to a particular reader for noticing something in the previous update which nobody did. I use the word dedication but very carefully, always afraid that they would disappear 😭

Kya karu ab?

This happens to me too. Sometimes I am just 😕

A good redemption FF (If you know a good redemption FF, please PM me the link)

I read only IPK based fictions, if there are too much characters apart from IPK characters, I feel difficulty to follow because, already I have to find a person to play our respectful right hand Aman, where will I go for other characters.

Your comment about Aman cracked me up 😆

I respect lots of authors who politely remind readers to click like and to comment, both must come out of will of the reader. Some readers give very precise and apt comment of the updates, should appreciate those readers, as I follow some writers I follow some readers comments, I have appreciated them via PM or scrap several times I WoWed with their insightful comments. I think now a days it have become trend or what, some comments are of OS size. I also thought of commenting OS size, but thinking of authors I stopped thinking of OSwala comment. (this comment is my longest I guess *patting myself on my shoulder*)

I remember your post on the Reader Writer thread about commenting and look at you now *flicks tears of joy*

IF to load a page it will take long time in mobile, if there are lots of photos and gifs have to wait ages to load, because of this I have dropped few stories. I know it is bad to lose good story, like everybody I also value my time so I chose to skip instead of wasting my time in loading a page.

Oops 😛

Your Siggy,

Even though it doesn't last long, I prefer big one. You?

If you think gutter you must also be faan of Chameli lingo like me.😉

I have added a picture to make my siggy non-gutterish 😉

Thank you for your OSwala reply :)

Zehra points to ponder I will say

Fortunately till date I have read stories only of good writers yeah there were only few which were bad in my account,. But all good . I was fortunate enough to read stories of wonderful writers who will not fall in the league u have prescribed, who are very keen to reach each and every comment and who are keen to respect the readers.

Yeah unfortunately me too came through some stories, but only reading half of it I will realize what a sham it is

So i pick stories based on its like sometimes, sometimes through recommendations, sometimes the beauty of story title, always pick stories of some established good writers in IF

But so far so good

But I too had abandoned reading something when its all mushy, always with s** and all. to some points if its written beautifully I can mange but in some stories its the only thing happening

I completely shut my doors for such stories

Then about blog... I dont have probes with it as far as the story is good

But prefer IF though opt for blog if the story is exceptional

Anything for good story right

Added: About dedication ...

Hmm though I read all most all good stories in IF , got dedication one or two times hardly . when it comes to commenting im not a detailed commenter and my vocabulary is weak in English-I confess.😆

But I never forget to comment even the writer asks or not.

I like stories of all genre ...but not always good and mushy types.. life needs some complications. I prefer stories which carry more arhi fight than love, logic and when the last chapter to such stories generally leads to reunion and all love, I use to fast forward them. Ha ha its my tendency to so 😆

But I read them, but I like the phase when the arhi are at logger heads.

Read only arhi stories and hate when outside charters make a roam

On typos grammar as I said earlier I read the stories of only good writers in all terms. So hadnt endured such things often

shami 😃
im habuitual offender when it comes to typos 😆 im too lazy to correct .thank god im not writing a story i know i will not get u as reader 😆

Regarding spacing, sometimes IF messes up with the format

Though it's not my reason to Not read a story so far, I noticed some authors always have same set of readers commenting first on their updates. Obviously the authors are biased here, otherwise how exactly same people in same sequence comment on the updates each and every time? Okie, I don't want to win an award by commenting first, but all the stories I read currently are solely by stalking the threads. I have not asked a single author to PM me about the update. I make it a point to comment (and not just a 'nice update'). But I do feel that it's quite childish - this kind of friendship (?) openly shown even in the FF section so frequently!

I may sound childish, but I want to be the first commentor or on the main page of the update of a story that I really love. I remember requesting two authors (though we are not friends) to let me have the first res and they let me. Mostly I don't have them PM me as my stalking skills are pretty good 😉 I do that too, if someone tells me that we never get a chance to be on the update page, I usually drop them a scrap stating the time of the update (no matter they are my friend or not). Its a different matter that I always end up being an hour or two late than the time I had mentioned And obviously my friends will know that I am going to update so they already stalk. But I always change my status before updating telling everyone when the update will be posted. But if this puts off some readers, I wouldn't mind rectifying that by not giving my update schedule at all (not that I have a schedule anyways)

Thank you for your honest response :)

Or at the very least, credit the original work if you absolutely cannot help being 'inspired'. There is a very thin line between 'inspiration' and 'plagiarism', which I'm sure many authors here have faced. In the same way, no genuine reader wants to feel cheated by a story either.

Mind PMing me that exceptional story? Only if it is complete :) (I like A/U to a great extent :))

True true true. I have been meaning to write an ArHi FF on one of my favourite movies but I always end up plagiarising in my head!

-Genre-wise, every reader has his own preferences obviously. Personally, I look for the promise of happy endings, reached logically and satisfactorily. An obvious IPK-itch that I need to scratch. Can't help it.

That IPk-itch refuses to go away

People might like, dislike, or just read it silently and pass along. If you are good enough, it is a given that you will be appreciated. If all you care for is gushing praise, good for you. But if you are getting constructive criticism too, it means your work is promising enough for someone to spend time analyzing it rather than simply dissing it. Which scenario is better?

Sometimes, I stop from commenting on something which I have not liked just because I am afraid how will it be taken. Hence, I skip that part and comment on the rest. Or even if I do, I tread carefully

Thank you for gong through the thread and sharing your take on it :)
