a string that ties a whole world together. and of no strings attached. while a pretender desecrates a string. here are some glimpses of this tender to creepy to rib tickling funny episode. off to get a samosa recipe, will be back tomorrow.
"kya?!!"

samosas are best with a cuppa hot tea, but i am happy to munch on mine with all that the episode brought. no less hot, or aromatic (i am a darjeeling tea fan, that fragrance of the hills, the crisp air, the gurgling rivers, aah), fresh and just perfectly steeped. and in true ipk style, the creatives take us seamlessly from a deep emotional, intense day to a happy and light one with notes of fire in it.

that single word from shyam, what?!!! was a great way to start. in one exclamation lay his shattered world. his wife had just suggested that he turn the girl he lusts after surreptitiously and without any compunction whatsoever, tie a rakhi on him, turning her into his sister and him into her brother. if i were drinking a real cup of tea at the moment, i'd surely have burned myself. too too funny, that moment. and yet... dangerous.

if anyone gets too close to shyam's deceit, he needs to act. to hurt someone. do something dirty. all the while pretending to himself, he doesn't have an option. and the ensconcing of khushi in the raizada home despite his best efforts, followed by this outrageous (to him) suggestion by his wife, completely throws him. there follows the unnecesary beating up of a cabbie, the coming to his senses and the next plan to somehow swing the situation to his advantage.

shyam was built with insight and interest by all concerned... his writers, his actor. he was not your mundane villain in the beginning, just flat and bad and raring to rape or steal or kill hero.no he was a character with an incredible flaw... no conscience. ne. in that he was the exact opposite of asr. there was a low animal quality to shyam. survival and his gain his only motive. whatever i want i must get. he said as much to khushi when he advised her to do what her heart pleases; asr also wanted to live life his own way but not by hurting and disrespecting others, certainly not by lying and cheating. for he had that one thing, shyamu darling never got to taste... conscience.

otherwise he was educated, well mannered, even learned in things, but defy his desires once, and there goes the whole outer layer. the scum within takes over with extreme ease. how he manipulated anjali all the while, preying on every weakness of hers. that watchful gaze in his eyes, when he'd throw the bait and see if she caught it or not... it's ok, though my leg is hurting let me hold my ears and do uthak baithak.

every time anjali fell for it. again, a victim of her own insecurities too apart from his game playing. but not khushi. he had that same look in his eyes when he threw the tantrum about going away, being hurt.

yet her gaze was clear. she was not needy (unlike his prime victim, anjali), she said there was no way she could take money from him, for it's not right. simple. she'd earn it, even if t meant going to a place where she's been insulted... and the next major character trait comes up... her commitment to her family. the family that made her their own when all was gone. anything for babuji. she'll tolerate anything.

clever writing in of character effortlessly throughout ipk. and these characters will create their destiny, lead the plot where it must go.

shyam had no respect for ties. but khushi would hold on and mend every string that meant something. can't quote off hand, but that poignant, "dhaga" dialogue while sewing on her angry and disbelieving husband's button: i didn't ask to be given this thread, but now that it has been put in my hand...

beautiful.

i think only in india i've come across this amount of tradition and tying together of, and giving and taking of respoonsibility between, a brother and sister. there are of course lost in the past, immense cultural and socioeconomic reasons, some i would agree with, and some perhaps not. but in its current form, one of the sweetest traditions we have, is rakhi or raksha badhan where a brother swears to take care of and protect (raksha) his sister with the tying of a string. i remember the horrific tinsel covered rakhis with sponge in terrible colours with some crazy motif stuck on top we'd get.🤣 loved them. being bengali, we did a reverse one for our brothers, the "phonta" or tika that would deter even the lord of death "yama," putting a barrier in his dorway, preventing him from reaching the brother... bhaiyer kopale dilam phonta, jomer duare podlo kaanta. i will protect my brother said this.

goes without saying, for asr and anjali, this was far far far more than a ritual. a joyous, pure, and happy reminder of their meaning in each other's lives. he had appointed himself her caretaker at 14... and she had let him. she made a rakhi for him every year. he kept a fast with her, and together, these two siblings born of the same mother, found their ma once again when holding out their hands to each other and committing to their relationship. this is a tie from birth, and it shall be kept, honoured. a lot of their tragically departed mother was part of this story. even for naniji, and perhaps mamaji. daughter, sister, mother, their ma was all of them after all. and equally cherished in those roles.

it was fitting that raju singh's lovely har khushi har gham tujh se song played for the first time here.

"iss saal rakhi achchi banee hai na?" the rakhis are looking good this year, aren't they?

very naughty brother must give sis a hard time. how his eyes hold her in his gaze, precious and prized... have i ever seen any pair of eyes do it quite so wonderfully. and please, must the man look so hot in a tika??here i'm trying to muster all my sisterly feelings over this touching scene. and all i can see is a splash of red flaming at the centre of a forehead and white shirt offsetting gorgeous skin.🤣

but daljeet is flawless as sister. and he as brother. when talk started of daljeet leaving, it was hard to imagine who could ever replace her.

in nani's eye was a gleam when the grand children played, and how proud she was telling khushi about the ritual they shared. asr observed the rituals that had meaning for him. he had his own way of connecting with the eternal... through his conscience, through his commitments. ❤️ this

and nani's eyes gleamed again when the laddoo talk came up. she noticed her chhotey make note of the laddoo maker. pleased as punch was she. i never realised the first time round, maybe because i started watching late, how much of a hand and will nani had in this pyaar. grandmother of all plotters. adore her character and jayashree t's interpretation.
"saath saath... sab kuch kar sakte hain?..."

l..l..live in matlab?

bina shadi kiye without marrying

shadi nahi no marriage

mangal sutra nahin no magalsutra

ek hi kamre mein in the same room

sab kuch kar sakte hain? can do everything???

poorey parivaar ke saamney? in front of the whole family?

just when she thought this laad gov had a nice side, perhaps even a decent bloke in him somewhere, out came the hawww-ror story. living in? khushi had come to teach la, looks like today la ended up teaching khushi something new. an all new parampara, tradition. "sab kuch kar sakte hain", "bina shadi ke." gadzooks, pass the samosas. and off went the crunchiest tastiest part of episode. lots of chillies and bite in it. and hiccups.

a middle class, non big city girl. tough, responsible, forward looking, gutsy, not at all run of the mill... far from being "less" in any way, virtually a son to her parents (if i am to look at traditional roles played by offspring in indian homes)... but not even in her wildest had she considered this idea of a relationship.

no ties. no pheres. no strings attached.
sex without marriage. she can't believe she's even considering the proposition.

of course, the shock is too much. and all she can do is go into auto pilot and reach for comfort. for khushi that is food. always. in joy, in sorrow, at night, or morrow. a defence in its own way i guess. to save herself from a devastating sense of emptiness at times when an accident and two people gone come to mind. don't know psychology... but there's something in that constant eating of hers. nonstop... chana, ber, chew nail... and of course jalebi, gol gappa, aloo poori, you name it. we shall get to the bottom of it in season 2.

hic... hic... hic... hic!..

"enough!!!"

for the time being, a string that has no idea it's getting tied is coming into play.

the cutest face to face between two would be lovers. miss "stuffed mouth" and mr "er, ahem, keep that thing away from me." he can't miss a single chance to be nasty to or about her. nor can she. brilliant. had they been indifferent to each other or missed even one chance,
we'd have cause to worry,

remember school? this is exactly how boys behave when a girl gets under their skin... get after the girl. unresolved souls, no idea what to call this "irritation" they feel (er didn't he say something about being "irritate" in charming "off" english in the middle of a hindi sentence).

his advice to his girl friend, don't become like "uss" girl. that girl. why is such a thought even coming to his head? maybe because he can feel how the small town dupattewali can have plenty influence on big city cool rich good looking people?

her nutty conclusion, not only is this idea hiccup giving, only one person can be responsible for doing such a bad thing. that rakshas. he must have screamed and shouted at poor la, and forced her to do this bina shadi sab kuch kar sakte hain thingie. huh! khushi di ya hear what la said and how comfortable she looked? obviously not;for there's only one person you can see, after all. and can i really blame you.

ok indi, that's enough.

...ami's coment...

Bravo dear, you never sies to amaze and entertain, LOVED your insight in slime, i mean Shyaam. and that comparison of how Khushi values her "dhagas" with one of my fav dialogues of the show (just saw that scene in a VM, goosebumb giving scene!!!) brilliant you tied it in here. your take on the rakshabandhan 👏 beautiful! this sure was more than a ceremony to them, loved how you talked about their Ma's presence also...so so true!

Lastly ROFL at you samosa scene description, though i read it a tad differently than you, at first i swear he thought she look cute...then of course with all the hicups irritation took over!

Loved the Blue, purple is brilliant and peach - my tummy hurts from laughing, even i remember thos big scary raakhis!! That underlined in baby blue, its very interesting, never heard of that in gujaraat anyway. thats a beautiful gesture though. get to learn so much in our school of iPK!

❤️ dwelving into your insights!!

tame gujarati chhe? su chhe?

aw, never been to gujarat, love the colour, the bandhni, the kathiawari food, that sense of desert and drama.

ok, i know that dialogwa in gujrati is completely wrong, but i have this thing about the states of bharat desh, fascinate me. and i want a piece of each one. greedy, this bong.

thanks so much for allowing me to entertain you, 😳 i agree with you, sir, he found her rather cute when he saw her, he is struck by her looks every time. right from that fall at sheesh mahal. can't help himself... and after the red saree day, certainly not. which is why dimag has to be called to work immediately, find some way to get out of that attraction.

as i watch again, i am struck by barun's acting... yet again. strikes me deep, each time, har baar. you know, there are times when even sanaya looks like she's "acting." but never, not once, this fellow. only in one scene, and this is episode 67, i have felt he was not that engaged, a bit out of it (now which one was it... well it was there somewhere, a small scene with hardly any words), otherwise it's as though he indeed is this guy, some hot shot creature from delhi called arnav singh raizada.

of late i watch bits of shraddha, baat hamari... again, no one's acting, there is scheming conniving very young and blind swayam khurana, and lo and behold here comes cute charming irresponsible but heart of gold shravan jaiswal.

this, despite, not very hot scripts.

this boy needs to be told, no, i'm not ok. hum theek nahin hain. how can he be so fluidly in and out of roles, creating almost lifelike characters along the way? zaps me.

baurundiwani, all your fault... your name made me think of all this.

thanks so much for liking. the bong bhai dooj is verra cute. lots of food involved.

Episode 70

The Escape

Buaji is so concerned for Kushi. She said she has been insulted again and if it was up to her she wouldn't stay there another minute. Buaji has had enough of these Raizada's. Kushi stops her saying this is her job now, her responsibility to her family, so she must continue with this job no matter what abuse she is given. There is no escape, she is committed.

She can do anything for her family

Payal is helping Naniji with the preparations she wipes her cheek and some sindor has left a stain there. Akash notices and like a mime gestures for her to check her cheek in the reflection of her thal;another marked woman for the Raizada men.She whispers thanks to him. I love the harp and flute music which represents Akash and Payal's romance. Akash so shy but so obviously smitten by Payal is adorable. They will not escape DM's plan for them and I don't think they want to by the look of things.

just loved them in this scene

Pooja begins and Nani takes the Shivling out of the cucumber. Anjali washes it as Kushi pours the milk, Kushi calls Lavanya over to help and she pours the water. Everyone is so happy at the birth of Lord Krishna. Buaji hands over the drape to Mami who ofcourse tsks her. The two of them are so funny together! Anjali places the Shivling on its seat on the swing and they all pray. Kushi gestures to Lavanya to place her hands in prayer mode. She does but is looking around; Kushi then places Krishna in the swing. Nani asks Kushi to go to the kitchen and get the forgotten ghee. Kushi tells Lavanya to place the crown on Krishna's head. Lavanya would probably love to escape at this time.

La was flustered in every action

She goes to the kitchen and the butter is being held out to her by none other than Kansa, oops I mean, ASR. He says Di sent it. She takes it and notices that he has some butter on his sleeve. She can't resist but tell him that the God Gopal has sent him a sign. The only sign it is is that his shirt is ruined. She tries again. Wait! Anjali comes over Kushi tells her what happened it must be a sign. He must come to pooja. Anjali tells him Kushi is right you should come. He says to Di that she knows he doesn't believe in such things. Kushi says but that day at the temple on Teej'.she shuts her mouth. He glares at her. Come on Di says. He says to her that day you insisted and I went, but this is my home and I can do what I want. Nani calls for Anjali. Anjali leaves and Kushi looks at him disappointed. He goes to leave and she says how can you leave you have been sent a sign by the God'He angrily turns to her saying it is only butter and it does not mean anything but increase my laundry bill, that's all. He does not believe in signs or portents and if the God wants to strike me with lightning then so be it. He has escaped.

He just defies whatever Khushi says and yes he is atheist.

Kushi can't believe that someone doesn't believe in God. She is now having a conversation with herself about the importance of Krishna's birthday and the respect of it. He speaks so rudely she will not forgive him that so easily. She speaks to the God now and says not to worry she will bring him back, that Lord Govenor, and make him apologize to you! He Will Not escape!

Loved her monologue

Lavanya is trying to place the crown on Krishna's head but to no avail it keeps falling off, frustrating Nani. Lavanya wishes she can do something she knows how to do. Kushi hears and says hve I got a job for you! She says for her to come and she will show her how to win Nani's heart. They are in Lavanya's room and she has made her wear a beautiful pink saree. Lavanya is complaining she does't understand why people think she doesn't know how to wear one. Look, it's ready she turns to walk away and it unravels. OOO Kushi let me help you. She shows her how to fold it and place it. Lavanya is thoroughly frustrated. She tries but it doesn't work. She says she doesn't learn it because Kushi doesn't teach her well.

La is just confused and jealous soul

Lavanya tells her this is not a school and you are not a teacher. If you can't teach me then quit. Kushi is dumbfounded, when did she ever do anything bad to her, she asks La to not speak like that. Lavanya answers Because Chamkilli of your attitude. Who is the one with the attitude,La? Look, you are under a misconception, today is Jamashtani and you want to impress Nani. Stop focusing on me and focus on impressing her or you will lose this opportunity.

Khushi surely knows her weak points now and that's what is she using against him.

Oh, okay tell me what I should do, La answers. She hands her the sarees ends and La tucks it in and mentions how uncomfortable it is although she looks quite beautiful in her pink saree. Kushi says now you have to get Arnav to come to the pooja. Nani will be happy! Lavanya says that's impossible. It will never happen. Noone can convince him to come to pooja and do arti. No way!!! Kushi tells Lavanya that Nani would be impressed and thrilled with her if she can accomplish this. Okay forget it kushi says; the seed has been planted, there is no escape for you now ASR. Let's go Kushi says and Lavanya says you go ahead. AAAHHH, she took the bait.

Love our Sanka Devi over here.

ASR is yelling at Lavanya he has said it already he will not come for pooja. Lavanya says come on, I am going and I don't believe in such things either but it will impress Nani and she will be happy. LEAVE ME ALONE, LAVANYA!

He is extra mad these days.

Okay and she walks away. It looks like he is thinking? Hmmm?

Nani asks Kushi where is Lavanya? Kushi tells her she went to call ASR for pooja. Nani says, hmmm, no he won't come.. he is stubborn. (premonition of remarriage words said to Kushi by Dadi). Kushi returns with, no Nani, he will surely come! He can not refuse Lavanya. Nani says you thought that Lavanya can do something even Anjali can't do!

Nani surely knows La does not have any quality at this point

Lavanya whispers that was a very bad idea; ASR didn't agree and Nani got upset. A lightbulb goes off in Kushi's head, she has an idea. Lavanya takes Kushi's idea to Anjali and Nani, "Di, I have an idea to get ASR here." Nani says she doesn't trust her after all that she has seen her do. Anjali encourage Nani to listen to her. Nani tells her to be very careful with her words. Kushi starts to pray in her head to Gopal and she apologizes for lying to bring ASR to pooja, but if you can be a little mischevious then why can't she? He will definitely not escape her plan this time!!!

ASR is working on the computer the lights go out. "What the hell? JAI PRAKSASH!!!!" He is so full of anger this man, like a twisted spring he is about to take off and he is off. JAI PRAKASH! JAI PRAKASH! He walks down the stairs. He goes to the pooja table and lights the lamp. The lights turn on! Oh, how the Divine works! Happy Birthday Krishna, Long Live Krishna, Anjali, Kushi and La say to him. He glares walks forward and so do they. They are not letting him escape this time!

Divine powers are working extra hrs for these two idiots

Di what kind of joke is this? Anjali says it is the will of God. If you stay she would be so happy. He goes to leave and Anjali takes hold of his wrist. Please! All right, Di, can he ever refuse her?

They stat the pooja Nani starts the arti followed by Anjali handing the thal to Arnav, Kushi looks at him and winks at Krishna. She did not let him escape; she will do anything to bring him back into the fold and to bring the Divine to his stone cold heart. Arti continues with Lavanya (Kushi had to show her the right direction to round) and then Anjali. As Anjali Makes her round she is thinking about her snakewa husband! I wish she could escape from his mesmerizing hold he has on her.

Me too

GH Shyam starts his arti almost maniacally. As he brings his thal around and around his eyes glaze over. It frightens me. His mind is on Kushi not his wife. He threatens Krishna; he can not take Kushi away from him. She is his, at all costs.

Kushi makes her arti and he just slightly leans his head towards her, he knows she is there and what she is doing. She didn't let him escape she got her way.

How can he miss the opportunity for not seeing her

Mami and her family's turn is next followed by Buaji 's family returning to Kushi who is returning the tray when suddenly it looks like the flame may go out and bot her and Arnav reach out to shield the flame from being extinguished. For someone who doesn't believe he quickly shielded the lamp a second time (he did it for Di before). Now it is time to swing Krishna and the whole family does this even ASR who is handed the chain by Kushi( Kushi gives Krishna a thumbs up this time). He tuly hasn't escaped!!!

Mami and Buaji are at it again the translation was a little screwy so next! Lavanya says to Nani aren't you glad ASR came to pooja it was her idea. Nani says really? I don't think she really believes her. Lavanya tells Kushi that Nani is very happy and impressed by her, so now I don't have to tell everybody that it was your idea to shut off the lights. Just then ASR walks by and overhears their conversation. Kushi says she doesn't want any credit; that was the will ofKrishna. He wants to run away from Krishna, Krishna played it so well thatone dictator lost in the end. La says "Whatever, Chamkilli."

He is fuming. He forcefully grabs Lavanya and spins her around in his room,

wait until he he does that with Khushi

she asks him what happened? WHAT HAPPENED? He responds. He can see all the others bothering him about pooja but her? How come you let Kushi kumara Gupta influence you? He can't believe she was a part of this plan to trick him. He says Kushi has managed to trick her, Nani and Di. Lavanya says to him why can't he see that Nani was very happy he came to pooja. She says she was happy with you and happy with me. Why didn't you tell me about the plan he wants to know. He leaves. Lavanya says to herself that there is no way she will lose ASR trying to impress Nani. "Chamkilli, now you will see who I really am; I will teach you a lesson'.'

There's no escape for you now!

La is up to no good

Cynthia lovely title.Love certain parts especially underlined ones.My comments are very visible :)

ME( Jumping with joy but trying to speak calmly): Sure. No problem.
REPORTER calls me at 1.30pm: Mam Barun is on line.
REPORTER 1.31pm: Oh! I think he is taken another call. his line is busy.
ME to myself Oh! No, no, NO!
REPORTER: Mam, stay on line. I will reconnect with him.
Me in my nervousness disconnect the line promptly! And feel like the pits!
REPORTER the Saviour, calls again: Mamplease do not disconnect.
ME: Yes, ok ok. Sorry, sorry!
REPORTER to BARUN: Barun, she is on line.
And then with waited breath, I hear his uff so familiar deep and sexy voice! Holy cow! I would have recognised that voice anywhere! He is saying to my Reporter friend: Can you please call after half an hour. Something very important has come up.
ME (to myself! I can't let him go!!!!! And just said without thinking): Hi Barun. Please can I talk with you?
BARUN: Ok. Hi! How areyou?(Maar dala!Allah! MAar dala! And that was really sweet of him as he was in a big rush and could have justsaid sorry n disconnected. My reporter friend also felt the same, wen we talked later)

BARUN: No, no. My pleasure.
ME: I wish you success in all your upcoming and future endeavours.
BARUN: Thankyou very much.
ME: Will you be coming to Calcutta to shoot your new movie?
BARUN: Uh...uh...uh...not sure.
ME: Ok, Barun. I am a member of IPK Forum. And me and my friends from.all over the world, US, Singapore, UK are on this thread called Blast from the Past. We are still very much into IPK. BARUN: Well, please thank all of them. Ask them to watch all my movies. I'd appreciate that.
ME: Yes Barun. Thankyou so much!
Then there was a big pause. Coz by this time it had sunk in that I was talking to HIM and I was feeling faintwa. I thought he had disconnected the line. But he had not. And then he said the sweetest thing I had ever heard.
BARUN( a deep, husky, sexy n sort of concerned): Okay?
I guess he was asking if it was ok for him to go back to important work now. Oh! So cute! Or maybe by a stretch of imagination he was wondering why this female who was blabbering continuously had suddenly shut up. So maybe the ok was like in, 'tum theek ho?!'
ME: Yes, Barun. Thankyou. Thanks again.
REPORTER: Ya Barun. Ok. Thanks.
BARUN: Right. Thanks.
