It seemed that Aarav was not Arnav's son then.
And yet, yet Arnav seemed to have rose something that had always bothered Khushi since the day Arnav confessed his love to her. How can someone like him love me? She knew very well that she was different from all his other girlfriends. She was cultured, not modern. She didn't wear clothes like Sheetal, nor were she quiet and reserved.
She was the total opposite of Arnav.
And today it was as if he confirmed that she was not his.
That somehow there was and always would remain a distance between herself and Arnav.
She loved him. Too much it seemed. Too much that without him her whole life would seem insignificant, empty.
Empty.
Which is what she felt now.
Sitting on the floor. Weak, pathetic.
She went downstairs to see that everyone was sitting down for dinner. She looked at Arnav quickly and saw that he still had that same angered expression on his face.
Despite knowing him for so long, it was that expression that scared her slightly.
She did not like the fact that it was due to her that he was angry.
"Khushi bitya come sit," Nani called from the dining table, whilst receiving an encouraging and warm smile from Anjali.
She nodded at her walking towards her seat next to Arnav, noticing her didn't even look up.
Khushi sat down her innocent eyes looking at her husband, who would look anywhere but at her.
She sighed silently, taking the dish in front of her.
It was now a ritual of Khushi's to pour food for Arnav. It seemed now that he would always hand her his plate, grinning, waiting.
She smiled, remembering his words.
"The food will always taste good for me, as long as my Khushi pours it for me."
Khushi looked at Arnav, anxiously, taking the plate in front of him. She was about to put a spoonful of cauliflower curry on his plate, when his hand slowly pressed on the plate, leading it to fall silently on the table.
She looked up at him questioningly.
But she was responded by a cold stare.
She quickly looked around to see if anyone had noticed this, only for the rest of the members, like him, to be oblivious of the pain he was inflicting.
He poured for himself, leaving Khushi to slowly retract her hand and slide it under the table, feeling numb.

She entered their room, not knowing what to expect.
Immediately her eyes went in search for him.
He was sitting on the bed, crossed legged, hanging up from a call.
He looked up at her, a sarcastic smile on his face.
"Oh, Khushi, you'll be glad to know that I was just speaking to the Doctor who you had conduct a DNA test and he said so himself that someone has fiddled with the reports, giving you the wrong report."
"Arnav-ji-"
"But I told him that I wanted this in writing, I know that is the way for you to believe me.
"But, Arnav-ji, I-"
"No, no Khushi, don't worry, It's going to be ready tomorrow. Then you will be at ease." He looked at her, his eyebrows raised showing plastered concern. He leapt from the bed, coming to stand close to her.
She looked down, silent tears running down her cheeks.
"Arnav-ji," she croaked, "I'm sorry."
She heard him gulp.
"I'm sorry I doubted you. Sorry that I didn't believe you. Sorry that ... I'm your wife."
He looked at her bewildered. "Khushi-"
"No I am," she then looked up at him, her eyes red.
She looked so tired.
Oh, God.
"I mean it," she told him. "You have made me realise that I don't deserve you. That somehow we are so different. Too different. That you should be with someone like Sheetal-ji."
"Khushi, what are you saying?"
"That still you're not mine. And you never will be." Her voice broke at the last sentence, as she was overtaken by her sobs.
His heart sank at her words.
He made her feel like that.
She was about to go, any minute she would break down, but Arnav tightly held her wrist pulling her to him.
Khushi gasped at his sudden movement, as she was brought close to him, looking up at him. He looked deep into her eyes.
"Khushi." He said hoarsely. "Do you really feel like that? That I'm not yours? That I shouldn't have married you?" Her eyes fell to the floor. Her silence answering his questions.
She felt his hands on her face, cupping her cheeks, as she was forced to look at him.
"Khushi, of course I'm yours, how can you even think otherwise? I don't want to be with anyone else but you which is why I married you."
Khushi's bottom lips was quivering and so he pulled her closer, whispering in her ear, "your my best friend, my wife, my love, you belong with me and I belong with you." He solemnized his words by placing a kiss on her forehead, and along the tears that were still running down her cheeks.
"Please don't cry Khushi, I'm sorry."
She shook her head, disapproving his apology, but her movement only reflected his as his eyes glistened with tears now feeling the pain that she had been through, he looked up at her, "the moment I fell in love with you was the best feeling in the world, and you know what made it all better, is that I had the honour of you loving me back." He chuckled slightly through his tears, as if recalling the precious moments.
Then his face fell as he backed away from her slowly, raising his hand in her direction, indicating the pain he had led her to "and look what I've done," his voice cracking.
She closed the distance between them, clutching onto him, her arms tight around his back, hating his tears, wanting to drive it all away, all the sadness that surrounded them.
Arnav wrapped his arms around her waist, burying his head into her hair.
They stood there for a while, letting the other vanish the pain that surrounded them.
