DEVIYAANI SINGH RAIZADA AND THE VARIOUS FACETS I SEE IN HER
DEVIYANNI SINGH RAIZADA was first introduced as a firm but lovable matriarch of the Raizada household. She loved her grandchildren whom she brought up after the death of her daughter Ratna and her husband.
SHE IS LIKE A BANYAN TREE AS OUR SATHYA DESCRIBED HER
She is a strong willed and a wise lady who withstood the many blows life has given her. She is not swayed easily like the Banyan tree. She protects her family and gives them love and support when it is needed. It is as she is protecting them just as the Banyan tree protects someone under its umbrella of roots.
She lives with her son Mahendra Singh Raizada, Daughter-in-law, Manorama, grandsons' Arnav, Aakash and granddaughter Anjali.
Anjali and Arnav are the children of her beloved daughter Ratna who died under unfortunate circumstances. Anjali and her husband Shyam live along with the Raizada.
I would like to describe Deviyaani is different aspects.
DEVIYAANI AS A MOTHER
Deviyaani is a warm-hearted person who is a wonderful human being and instilled right values and culture in her children.Mahendra Singh Raizada, was a soft natured person who has all the values instilled in him.
Her daughter Ratna Malik also is of the same nature as her brother and she instilled those values in her children.
DEVIYAANI as a grandmother cum mother nurtured both the Anjali and Arnav and instilled the right values and culture in them. She was also a mother, friend, philosopher and guide to her orphaned grandchildren. Both Arnav and Anjali have a strongly believe in the right and wrong of things.
DEVIYAANI AS A MOTHER IN LAW
DEVIYAANI'S relationship with her bahu is a typical Saas- bahu relationship. Deviyaani as a person is a just and fair person and she cannot tolerate hypocrisy. She is a very straightforward person and there lies the discord between Sasuma and Bahu.
To the outside world it would look as if Deviyaani has not accepted her because she is from a poor background and fell in love and married her son. Deviyaani does not like the behavior of Manorama because of her behavior. She is too loud, rude and insults people whom she thinks are below her status.
DEVIYAANI in fact slowly tries to correct her behavior with timely rebukes but she does not interfere in Manorama's life too much. She is such a lady who gives freedom for people to enjoy life in their way and she is very broadminded.
She encouraged Manorama and Payal to take part in the Fancy dress competition. She slowly tried to bring Manorama and Payal together because Manorama was not happy getting a bahu from a middle class background. She and Manorama always consoled each other whenever a crises hit the family, like Shyam's truth coming out, Anjali's breakdown, and her miscarriage.
DEVIYAANI knows that under that exterior there is a heart of gold hidden behind many insecurities. They should clasping hands supporting each other and consoling each other like a true mother and daughter. There relationship turned into one of trust and togetherness as crises after crises hit the family.
DEVIYAANI AS A GRANDMOTHER
DEVIYAANI as a grandmother nurtured both the children and instilled the right values and culture in them. She was also a mother, friend, philosopher and guide to her orphaned grandchildren. Both Arnav and Anjali have a strongly believe in the right and wrong of things.
The loved both her grandsons Arnav and Aakash and always wished for their welfare. She had her moments of arguments with her eldest grandson Arnav, whom she felt was following the ways of his father.
ARNAV'S NAANI
Arnav Singh Raizada, the man of the house who shouldered the burden of his family was an embittered man. He was haunted by the past, where his mother and father committed suicide. He blames his father for the suicide because his mother found out the truth of his father's extra-marital affair. She committed suicide on the day of her daughter's wedding, followed by her husband's death. The wedding is stopped and Anjali had to face the trauma, which she still hasn't got over. She also has a limp, which she is very conscious of.
ARNAV a withdrawn person carrying the baggage of the past on his shoulders from the young age of 14 does not care two hoots for society. He does not believe in God, all Pujas, Marriage, Love always has a friction with his Naani.
But if any outsider comments or try to judge or insult is family he will not stand it. He has a strong sense of responsibility all because of Deviyaani.
ANJALI'S NAANI
ANJALI, a wounded soul due to the past lives in her own world giving preference to Arnav aka Chotte and her husband Shyam you is her life support and believes him blindly. Deviyaani was at the side of Anjali all the time she needed her when the truth of Shyam came she was the one to try and keep her calm and put back the pieces together.
She was always there for Anjali and Anjali misused that trust and kept her faith with the devil. This led to the accident where she lost her child on her Godh Baharai day.
AAKASH'S DAADI
AAKASH is very much loved by his Daadi and when she comes to know that he has fallen in love with Payal, she immediately agrees for the marriage. She is not bothered the middle class background from which Payal has come but she sees only her love, and values instilled in her upbringing.
Whenever Manorama taunted or shouted at Payal and created a misunderstanding between Aakash and Payal she was the one who brought them together again.
She also welcomed Nanda Kishore aka NK a nephew of Manorama as a Grandson.
DEVIYAANI IS A VERY GOOD JUDGE OF CHARACTER
Deviyaani is one person who does not judge people by their background but by their values and culture. She was impressed by seeing Kushi and Payal for the first time and judges their characters correctly. She also judged the character of Lavanya correctly and she felt she may love Arnav but would not be the correct person for him.
The minute she laid her eyes on Kushi, and met her and spoke to her, she knew this girl was the one who would be the correct Bride for her Chotte. She along with Anjali played cupid and had a big role in both Arnav and Kushi falling in love.
The only person whom she did not judge properly was her Damadji aka Shyam Manohar Jha, who sweet-talked into the life of the Raizada's and wrecked havoc in their life. He was such an evil person who two timed Anjali, cheated Kushi, kidnapped Arnav and tried to kill Arnav and Kushi. When she came to know the true nature of Shyam she still has not forgotten or forgiven him.
DEVIYAANI AS KUSHI'S WELL WISHER
DEVIYAANI was always Kushi's well-wisher and was instrumental in bringing them together. If Shyam had not caused that Misunderstanding between Arnav and Kushi then she would have with great joy brought Kushi home as here Grandson's Bahu.
When Arnav and Kushi came home married she was very disappointed and shouted at Kushi as to why she went against tradition and got married like that. After the Kidnapping and Shyam' truth coming out she was the one to welcome Kushi because she knew to what extent Kushi loved Arnav. How they were so tuned together and how much sacrifice Kushi has done for the well being of the family.
DEVIYAANI'S GREATNESS AS A GOOD HUMAN BEING
When the remarriage was taking place and her friend told the past of Garima being the other woman in her daughter's life. She was shattered but all she asked her was why she did not tell her before.
She went to console a shattered Kushi and told her that whatever happens Arnav will come for here. She was true and Arnav did come to marry her. Deviyaani asked Arnav whether he thought properly before agreeing to marry Kushi because she did not want Kushi's life to be spoilt.This is Deviyaani Singh Raizada for you.
DEVIYAANI STILL YOUNG AT HEART
Whenever Kushi was upset, she would do something to she the smile on Kushi's face. Kushi was the only one who brought Arnav out of his past and who accepted all the rasams for Kushi's sake.
Whether to make Kushi from stop going home she danced with Anjali, Lavanya and Maamiji.
She then arranged a honeymoon at home and transformed the whole house as a Hotel in Bali. She always wanted to see her family happy and would do anything for that unhesitatingly.
