This is my first attempt to take a dig at Anjali's character, although I myself get annoyed at her sometimes, I think we should all think rationally & logically, not emotionally.

Okay, So since the beginning of Iss Pyaar, We are introduced to a loving sister who loves her family and always tries to keep everyone happy. She doesn't like fights and wants to keep everyone. E.g. initially when Nani disliked Mami (What she said and her actions, check beginning episodes!) Anjali would always try to calm the situation and pacify Nani to avoid Mami from crying or getting upset. Cute right!? We also find out that Anjali believes a lot in Pooja and spends most of her time devoting herself to god.

There can be 2 reasons for this.

1. <-- Shyam's rarely home and she feels lonely, she prays for him a lot and prays for her family.

2. <-- The PAST. Something happened which triggered her to be really religious and self-conscious.

Shyam as her husband.

Okay? Seriously, Avoid thinking about all of Shyam's evilness but see him in Anjali's perspective. Shyam's the ideal husband.

1. He's sweet, Caring, Has a good rapport with everyone in the family.

2. He's loving and showers love to Anjali in front of the family. (Example episode 41/42/43 His etry as Anjali's husband!)

3. He's hard-working and thinks about Anjali's happiness before anyone else's

That's some examples. And come on, Knowing how sly and 'innocent' Shyam is as a husband, I think anyone would have gotten fooled by him. He's absolutely sly! The only one sly enough to miss judge his intentions was Shashi who he silenced.

Shyam's sudden 'truth'

No warning. No clue about what is happening. All of a sudden, Her Chotte, Her younger brother who she loves and adores so much arrives home in a bad condition. And then the truth comes out. Mami telling Anjali as well, It's unexpected and obviously Anjali's life comes crumbling down.

Shyam is said to have accepted Anjali when no one else would.. Once again the past.. we don't know what happened?

All of a sudden, As Arnav/Khushi reveal Shyam's truth, Everyone seems against her, everyone seems against Shyam.

Now Anjali, desperate for some type of control on the situation, desperate for everything to turn back into a lovey dovey good time is shattered.

Their's no proof that Shyam has been disloyal.

Shyam's still in denial and telling Anjali that theirs a massive misunderstanding.

Arnav throwing Shyam out and Anjali on her own.

She needs space, time, everything is going to fast!

After a few days, She starts to think. Everyone is against Shyam and Anjali feels lonely, confused more than ever. Angry at her Chotte for throwing Shyam out, angry and upset about the accusations thrown on her husband. And than finally, the small, innocent baby growing in her tummy.

What will people say about the baby's father?

Will the baby grow up without a father?

What if she won't be a good mother!?

She decides to think about her child, Being born without a male in his life, she decides to make it easier for herself and for the child, Kill the baby to prevent it from being born into a world with questions.

Okay, And now of course, When Shyam's back, People are angry at Anjali's behavior.

Why!?

There's no proof Shyam was a perv, I mean according to her, he's a loyal and loving husband. And she has his baby, Obviously she wants him to be part of her life and the baby's.

I hope my post makes sense :) I tried to analysis her character, It sounded much better in my head! 😆

I just hope with Shyam's re-entry, Anjali fially realises the truth, Becomes stronger and lashes out 😛

Eaxctly my point!!! We as viewers are mixing up good Shyam vs Evil Shyam...but Anjali has seen only GOOD Shyam... hence she is justified in her behavior.

EDITED:

For a minute lets take Anjali and put her in the real society... there are millions of women in India who are still trapped in a cage called marriage even after knowing the fact that their husbands cheat on them... Tell me how many WOMEN walk out of their Marriage after knowing that the husband is cheating? We can probably count them... THAT'S THE INDIAN WOMEN AND INDIAN CULTURE!!! It takes a lot for WOMEN to break MARRIAGE... They do EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO KEEP THE MARRIAGE... and everybody have their own reasons to do it!!!
For some its financial,
For some its fear of society
For some its pressure from family/friends
For some its the future of the kids
For some its the fear of abandonment
For some its emotional (Love)
For some its their nature to Forgive no matter what

In my own life I have seen women around me put up with crap like this... I want to share a story here: When me and my husband told a wife(somebody we know very well) that her husband tried to misbehave with somebody close to us... there was no reaction from her... We severed our relationship with this couple but everybody else moved on as if nothing happened!!!!

So my question is even after knowing the truth when women cannot end their marriage...How can Anjali end her marriage or even think negative of Shyam when she has no evidence or intent?? All those hints that we are talking about... to her those are misunderstandings...any wife who BLINDLY TRUSTS her HUSBAND will ignore those hints!!! So Anjali has her own reasons to Trust Shyam (Just like Arnav her his own reasons to trust Khushi)... PLUS the family has been protecting her by not telling her the facts... THEY KNOW SHE CANNOT HANDLE IT and even they tell her the truth she will not believe them!!!
JUST LIKE HOW A "SHAQ (DOUBT)" CAN RUIN A RELATIONSHIP (READ ARNAV KHUSHI) "BLIND TRUST and love" CAN KEEP THE RELATIONSHIP (READ ANJALI SHYAM)

KHUSHI vs ANJALI

To be honest, KHUSHI has more reasons to leave Arnav than Anjali has to leave Shyam...we all know how Khushi was treated by Arnav, how much pain he gave her and how much humiliation he put her through... Is there a single instance when Shyam treated Anjali like that NO!!!!

But why is Khushi still with Arnav? Why is she getting married? BECAUSE SHE LOVES HIM AND KNOWS HE LOVE HERS!! In future even if Arnav goes back to BEING ASR, she will still be with him!!!!

The same reasoning applies for Anjali... UNTIL AND UNLESS ANJALI SEES THE TRUTH...CATCHES SHYAM RED HANDED AND EXPERIENCES THE PAIN ARNAV KHUSHI AND THE GUPTA FAMILY HAVE GONE THROUGH SHE WON'T LEAVE SHYAM... and even after finding out the truth about Shyam...she won't be bitter or hate him..or turn all negative.she will be BROKEN, SHATTER...HER BUBBLE WILL BURST...HER WORLD WILL COLLAPSE that's when ARNAV AND KHUSHI WILL AGAIN SUPPORT HER!!! that's the ANJALI I KNOW...

We have seen only Arnav's redemption track...just wait and watch...we'll see Anjali and Dadi's redemption track as well...

Nice post! If one needs to solve a problem, it is very imp to see other's POV in any situation. Unless you understand that, you cannot formulate your own action to counter act it. In her way, Anjali's isn't wrong. I agree 😊

I agree with you only 50%. I understand that as Anjali always saw only the good Shyam, it was little hard on her to digest the truth of Shyam. But there were many clues which gave away Shyam's secret - like she herself caught Shyam in Arnav's room more than 2 times, went to have bath in her brother's room when brother was away, was always away when Khushi was in house, Left Anniversary party without any reason. He always mentioned that he was getting their new house being built but as a wife I never saw any curiosity from her to go to the new house. Why? And which wife doesn't ask her husband about his earnings. In one episode where Shyam buys a watch and Anjali pays for it with her personal check, the seller was shown correctly guessing/smirking at the cheat Shyam was but kamaal hai the wife didn't catch a whiff.

The main problem with Anjali I feel is the character is too unrealistic and like some one said she wants to see only what she wants to see which makes her selfish and self centered. Where was Anjali's concern when Chotte went missing for more than a month. There were no scenes at all of Anjali thinking about chotte, or missing him or trying to reach out to him. So yup the bubble of a loving caring sister broke for me at that juncture. Had she been shown little worried, little tensed during the kidnapping time, I could have related to her. It would still have been okay if she was not told the complete truth due to her delicate health and pregnancy. But the concern that should have come across was not shown and now I can't sympathize with her. She just comes across as a dumb person who can be fooled easily.

She's a dimwit. She doesn't want to see the truth and listen the truth. Earlier, she had many situations where Shyam was unrealsitic. He was suddenly missing from RM when Khushi was present. He was missing for Payal's Shagun, she knows Khushi's fianc name was Shyam. She have seen him sneaking around Arnav's room in his absence. Arnav himself said he had doubt about the affair of Khushi and Shyam, and hence sudden marriage. One person can misunderstand but not many. If she joins all the doubts it won't be difficult for her to understand who was guilty. Any woman with self respect doesn't stand in a place where her husband was insulted let alone living there. Any woman with self dignity won't live off his brother's money and let her husband use it. She didn't ask even once how Arnav was kidnapped and how was he saved. Any woman will not want to kill her own kid just because her husband was not respected, in one moment and wishes for a kid like her husband in the next moment. Any sister won't feel jealous if her brother spending time with his own wife as if she is his ex. She had no right to blame someone for lying when you yourself are lying and cheating them, it is double standard and hypocrisy. More than anything she needs a psychiatric treatment immediately.

Your analysis is limited to her role as a wife. As a wife I understand her reluctance to believe the accusations against her husband. I can understand that she sought him out to hear his side of the story away from the others. She might even have believed him. BUT now try and analyze her as an elder sister. Initially loving, caring almost suffocating. Then brother gets married overnight . Upset, naturally then reconciles herself to the fact. Realizes that things are not hunky dory in ArHI land. Eventually realizes that the two of them love each other. Note she approaches Arnav and Khushi separately to make them aware of their love for each other. Then brother goes to London.

He hasn't called her for a couple of days, no worry from her side. ( In my mind this is where her character starts getting messed up) this is strange for a sister who supposedly called him several times a day.

She only reacts to his absence and lack of communication when she overhears Mami and Masala Mama talk about it.

Phone call comes, she is satisfied with preliminaries.

Again no more communication, she is not shown to care.

Finally brother dear shows up dirty, injured and exhausted. She hears that he was supposedly kidnapped. Aside from her initial panic, did we ever see her ask him how he was after the kidnapping. I mean you can go thru the episodes with a fine tooth comb and you will not find her asking about him. Instead when he is putting his injuries aside and trying to care for her, she is still pi**ed off at him.

She has a problem with her brother romancing his wife. Please note earlier point that she was aware of their love for each other. This is not how loving sisters behave. If we were to try and excuse this because her own married life is in the doldrums, then let us have a moment to think about whether Anjali let the issues in ArHi land affect her idyllic married life with her husband? the answer is clearly NO. She was happy to live in her la la land regardless of the troubles in ArHi land. Then why should she expect that her brother should not romance his wife because her hubby is not with her?? Is that realistic? Is that healthy? NO.

She has a problem with Arnav as she thinks he is lying to her. But it is Ok if she lies to everyone.
It is this hypocrisy in her character that I have a problem with. She comes across as a needy, clingy, attention seeking, self centered, lying, conniving, cheating (yes, using her brother's money to help her husband after he was kicked out by said brother, is cheating) woman who will do anything to achieve her goals. Regardless of the cost of such actions to those that are closest to her.

That I have a problem with.

You make a fair point that as a wife it is hard for her to believe. yes but then do the honorable thing and leave your brother's house. Go stand by your man.

I guess to an extent, Anjali is being shown as slightly silly but you have to think it in this way. The way Shyam has shown himself as good, all of his actions were probably just a coincidence to Anjali. For Anjali, Shyam is everything, He brightens her world. Since they married (Under the circumstances which is unknown), Shyam has obviously created that respect for Anjali. I can't say anything really regarding the kidnapping track, I got annoyed at that too but i don't think it's Anjali's fault in that, Barun working on his movie and the CV's trying to control the tracks, They may have neglected the Anjali caring sister scenes 😳

Perhaps Anjali can't handle the fact that Shyam doesn't love her. Yes, Maybe she knows but is in denial. Anjali is a complex character, It's quite easy to brush her aside and say she's a dimwit but i think there's something deeper here. I think she can't handle rejection hence she prays a lot to god and gets involved with the family (Arguements wise, Always trying to keep everyone happy). Coming to the point when Shyam was insulted, I think Anjali was in shock. She was confused and hurt, not knowing what to do which resulted her in wanting to be alone. Arnav had been kidnapped but he was back, safe and now this Shyam mishap, which one should she concentrate on? She's getting shock after shock dammit! And about the Arnav-Khushi bit, That was when Anjali felt more lonely than ever, she wanted to know that her brother is their with her so seeing Arnav and Khushi happy together, she got upset because she thought no one cared about her, her happiness and Shyam.

As a role as a sister, I found it annoying that Anjali wasn't worried about her Chotte but i don't think it was her fault. I think with Barun being in his movie sets, Maybe the CV's tried to 'distract' the audience and turn the attention some where else and not on Arnav. Hence the change in Anjali's behaviour.
