Sam, South weddings are plain silent; we have none of the shor sharaba...😊

yep a traditional manrta Chanting with mangala vatedhyalu.. sannyee mellam ..and akshinthallu..
with loads of respect to given to groom side as if they came from heaven πŸ˜†

That's a disgusting ritual in every part of India I guess..Even among Bengalees!!The baarati we call them "Barjatri"...they get respect as if they are Gods!!😈

You're lucky, Sam. With us, its either horribly early or too late in the morning...πŸ˜• Then again, horrible it is only for the groom and bride; not for us. I love weddings so it doesn't register at all😊

I love weddings..Another cousin sister of mine is married into a Punjabi family..So they had what we call a "Benjabi" wedding(Bengali+Punjabi)πŸ˜†wedding..We went to Delhi to attend the marriage..There were Sangeet..Mehndi..Shagun...and all stuffs that we generally see on TV!!And it was fun!!Jiju came riding on horse..all were dancing!!It was loud but fun!!Bengali weddings are a lot more calm!!πŸ˜•

Sam you should have been in my wedding 😳 I have never seen my generally calm extended family behave that way. Maby they were just too happy to get rid of me

Mahurat nikal ja raha means if you don't start the wedding within that auspicious time its not good for you. In the old ages it was a huge stigma. Now a days it doesn't matter so much, but then again in villages ans stuff its still a huge issue. You know when my parents got married, that day there was a cyclone in the area. So my dad was very very late getting there. At that time 35 years ago no phone or anything. They couldn't let my mum's family know. So the Mahurat passed. And my dad arrived very late with the Barat. But luckily there was another Mahuraat in the middle of the night so they got married then. Its fate I guess.

Cyclone paas aane na de...Fate door jaane na deπŸ˜†

Waise I have heard about Bangladesh cyclones from my grandma..who was born and brought up in Myemensingh!!I have heard lots of stories!!

i admire this lady shankunthala ..she is a very innocent girl who believed a King ..did ghandharva vivaha...got pregnant..the insult that she faced at raja's court was so heavy to me to accept..

i cried a lot watching that scene in a Movie ..she is such a beautiful innocent girl faced lot of humiliations

Its just the elders who do it here still.. the rest are pretty much chilled out. The worst was in one of my cousin's marriages; it was a love marriage and the groom had to go through quite a few interviews before our family agreed. It was quite funny to see; one day he was being interrogated and the next he was being treated like a tyrant king. He was going all 'What The' at the way people were behaving around him...😊😊
