OK...to be honest...I can be pretty defensive about Barun...because I love him for the person he is first and then for the actor he is...
Firstly, I have watched many Indian shows previously. Therefore, I can easily analyze the actor in him as well as compare him to other actors in the television industry. He, by far, stands as the BEST out of all of them. Also, I have watched all the other shows Barun has acted in previously. There was Shraddha, then Dill Mill Gayye, later Baat Hamari Pakki Hai and finally we have Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. I have literally seen him evolve as an actor. And he has changed and learnt for the better. And the best part, he played a different character in every show he was part of. In Dill Mill Gayye he portrayed an evil drug addict. In Baat Hamari Pakki Hai he portrayed a carefree, rich brat with an amazing sense of humor, who learns to take up responsibilities after he gets married and realizes what true love is. And in IPKKND he portrays a ruthless business man who just pretends to not have a heart but now is crazy in love with his wife. You know what leaves me in awe? It is how flawlessly he molds himself into the character he is portraying. He breathes life into his character. I agree, there are times when things do go slightly wrong. But his brilliant acting over shadows those little mistakes. You should have seen him in Dill Mill Gayye. Watch the videos on You Tube. They will give you goosebumps and leave you thinking, "Is this the guy who actually plays ASR?"
About comparing him to other Bollywood actors. Well, I personally don't see anything wrong in that. He is competent enough to be compared with them. The time period the actors have been in the Bollywood industry is not the factor to be considered while comparing here. It is their TALENT. There are actors who have been in the Bollywood industry for decades but are far from acting.
About him being the Greatest actor. I am going to give my example here. (Hope I don't get shoes thrown at me for this.) They call Sharukh Khan, the GREATEST ACTOR. But, sadly, for me, I don't think he is. His acting is monotonous but he is still called the Greatest. There are far better actors than him in the Bollywood industry. This is my PERSONAL opinion.
About him being given the treatment as of GOD. As far as I know, nobody has done that till date. But...Girl...Rajnikanth has his own freakin' temple! People actually worship him! In comparison to that, the feelings that people have about Barun is very tiny. It's genuine...not over rated. As I mentioned earlier, it's all about individual opinions here.
About people loving Barun for just his looks. Honestly, I don't think he is Super Handsome. There are way better looking actors than him in the industry. I don't judge him for his looks. I respect him for the person he is. He is a genuine person which is why his acting is genuine. Which is why when he cries, it looks real and we cry. When he laughs, it's from the heart. When he hates, it gives you chills. When he loves, it's mesmerizing. When he smirks and flirts, it gives you a tingling sensation. It's almost like his character is real and not fictional. His expressions can be stone like at times. Agreed. But his eyes...they emote and speak volumes when his face doesn't. And that, my dear friend, is not an easy task. Emoting from the eyes, making it so real and believable. It's not at all easy. That is something that actors working from decades have failed to do till date. That is what makes him the best for me.
He has flaws, everyone does. But he conceals them with his marvelous performances.
This is clearly my opinion. Since it's a debate, I put forth my point. Nobody is forced to agree with me here. And I respect everyone's opinions. Yours too.
I hope I didn't sound too angry. Because I am not at all. I enjoyed replying to this post. It was loads of FUN!
Thanks Dear!
