Barun An actor-A debate (MODs close the topic)

Standard Disclaimer-I love Barun. I love Barun.I love Barun.I love Barun. He is on my computer wallpaper. He is on my phone wallpaper. His BG is my ringtone. His name is doodled on every scrap paper in my house.

Warnings- Stong critisism ahead.

I have noticed that Barun is treated is nothing short of a God/Supernatural on this forum. I admit I've speant an unhealthy amount of time drooling over this guy and his killer looks.

But then I saw a post(s) where people of this forum said that Barun was better than the likes of established Bollywood actors. Actors who have been the industry for 2 decades. Now I mean this in the least offensive way - haaahhhaaa lol. Sorry but that was true and instant response.

Barun's dialogue delivery is passable on his best day and his expressions are almost stone like in some scenes. As a student of the theater arts I cringe when he speaks sometimes.

Ofcourse BS has his better days as well. In scenes like when he tells Khushi doesn't have a character , the hate is actually palpable. Even the I hate you scene was good. BS seems to do hate/anger really well. The other things he does really well is flirting. His eyes seem to flirt and it gets us all high and giggling.

But other emotions- not so great.

Which got me thinking, is that why so many of us complain that when Arnav becomes lovey-dovey he is OTT? Is that why Arnav in love is cringe worthy? In that hug scene during kidnap-hug I was closing my eyes.

No one can do ASR better than BS. But that doesn't mean BS is the greatest actor out there as many make him out to be. Or perhaps he is to some of you here.

So do share your views and let's debate. All views are welcome fangirl/haters/critisism.

I love ASR but you are right...but also, this is a day to day serial so we cannot expect him to be perfect everyday.There are days when he really seems worn out.

First things first--welcome, Rockerchic! A funny woman AND a good writer...great addition indeed!

Secondly, I'm going to make some unwarranted assumptions here and go out on a limb and guess that you don't watch too many Hindi serials. If you did, you would know the pieces of wood, the man-sized rocks that currently occupy screen space along with their respective long suffering spouses on most other Star Plus and Zee shows.

Had you watched any of the following: When the hero on another serial greets the news of his wife's pregnancy, and, in another scene, his wife's imminent death with the EXACT SAME expression...or when there is an unattractive dough-boy with no neck and the world's most idiotic smile matching his ridiculously juvenile nickname, or when you have a man who's response after three years of being self righteously preached at by his wife every single damn day is to beat the shit out of everyone he sees, you will understand.

You will understand why nuanced acting, in any TINY portion--whether its the sizzling chemistry of Barun and Sanaya, or the fact the man does hate, as you observed, better than anyone else on TV...you'll understand why the fan gurls squeal and get their panties in a bunch over Sobti.

He is by no means the best out there. There are veteran actors who yawn more convincingly and with greater acting skill than Sobti displays in some of his sappier love scenes. But given the TV landscape--yeah..he is the best there is on television right now. I agree that there have been moments when I have cringed...but then there was the scene where he chases the ambulance, and realizes he may have lost Khushi..or the incredible Diwali party scene-not the poolside kiss, but the buildup before, where he had to portray attraction and obsession and love and desire without one word of dialogue--all of those carry me through the overly cutesy ASR to Arnav transitions of late.

And finally, quite frankly, the man is smokin, which goes a long way towards ignoring an occasionally squeaky delivery! in terms of everything that is expected of him, where he does deliver consistently, enough to get me, a cynical viewer who hates Indian soaps to tune in for over a year now--his looks, and physical screen presence, style and his excellent line in menacing flirting--- I think I can accept some off days..

I never find his face as stone-face in case of expressions...his eyes are so damn expressive!!!

I love this guy to bits!

but i have to say, he is not the best actor

his acting has greatly improved from when the show first started

you're right - he does do hatred very well

but i think he's gotten good at doing love too (althoug im yet to see todays episode)

No no I liked it and what it stood for but all the smiling seemed just a bit weird for me. Sarun/Arhi are great huggers! :)

Barun is a good actor and is good with expressions but I find Abhaas's dialogue delivery and voice modulations better. Compared to lot of Telly actors I think barun is far better. I wouldn't compare him with Bollywood actors..he has a long way to go.

no one is perfect...an actor gets better day by day ...willing to learn,

I feel he is a very good actor. Agreed he can do some scenes better. He may not be able to give his best everytime. But if you cover Barun's face and just leave the eyes to do all the acting, he can beat most actors around :)
