I am going to be shameless & say todays episode was designed for Masala Mami's like me … I Loved the maar dhaad … the intrigue …. The thoda thoda dil ka dhadkna … the chupan chupaiye …. The macho hero … the cunning villain … the damsel in distress heroine … the Devi Maa ka roop … Goddess Kali ke avatar mein Mami .. the rustic settings … the rona dhona … sab kuch …

Don't know about you guys .. but like Gul aunty I too am a fan of Sallu baba … mujhe to Dabang ki yaad aagayi .. Hero ko aaj Takkar ka villain mila hai …

Mein tumhe apni Khushi nahi doongi :
The Khushi grab: the relevance of showing this … see till yesterdays episode mami though trusted Khushi .. don't think she understood the gravity of the situation .. while she got that the situation was dangerous … but how much of danger & how imminent was the danger was defined to her today … when she faced a cold blooded, cunning guy pointing a gun at them …..yesterday when she felt the dregs of danger .. she wanted to retreat but today .. she has realized how BIG & Grave is the issue .. adrenalin pumped …. & out came Mami in true Phoolan devi style… Kya maara hain gray ( oops brown) shirt ko… So both the incidents… yesterdays attack & todays grab …. Was all to get Mami darling on board fully.
Now for technical critique: Mr. Khan I am back with you after the short break…
Ok I got that your clique is Action … u are doing well … but dear boy ..cudnt u have done the mirchi sequence better … is the man so enamored by Khushi's neck that he cant see Mami opening the mirchi dabba .. has he gone so deaf that when she is shouting at Khushi to duck ( not once but twice) he cant duck … why cudnt u have made this with some simple eye play between mami & khushi & then the subsequent mirchi in the eye sequence….
Gandhiji : continuity applies to you to sir … yesterday the gray (oops brown) shirt room had a sepia tone lighting ( indicating evening).. today u had bright sunlight creeping in from the said window …. Hai … will we ever see a scene without the hallmark Guru Dutt lighting … a shaft of light appearing from window (pyaasa) .. most scenes mein toh aap same lighting karte ho …whether it's the romp in hay sequence or intense drama in kidnappers house thoda to range bataiye.

Wow .. was all I could say … for TV the scene was shot very well .. Khan sahab mazaa aagya … owing to the fact that u were working under time constraints the scene came out very well …
Ahem !! was this the negotiation with Barun … stay back give us the dates & we will give you the Film platform on TV 😉 ( hey just kidding no idea what they negotiated with Barun).
Very good action … small mistakes … like once u could clearly see Barun's eye piece was over his eye .. the misplaced reactions of the junior artisits … but itna toh film mein bhi hota hai .. where they have the luxury of retakes & reshoots … so WHAT THE … will give it to you… but all in all … it was a fantastically shot sequence … appropriately helped by wonderful editing & mixing of the famous ASR tune.
Mujhe Chod ke mat jao …
The taking away of Arnav …. Nicely done .. the dropping of the Eye piece .. so significant … open clue for all .. ke Arnav ki aankh ki patty ab khulne waali hai … bahut acche ..
But here once again Khan sahab … why the delayed reaction of Khushi .. she sees them carting of ASR .. & she stands there ( with the most minimalist expressions on her face) … only when they actually put him the in the car .. does she run after them … thoda .. theek se karte yaar … u could have shown the mad dash reaction in the beginning ( an impulsive person like Khushi would do this) .. & mami holding her back .. dunno if this was poor shooting or poor editing .. but whatever .. it came out all a little sad .. but again WHAT THE …. Chalega all in all the dialogues were well penned here … the voice of reason prevailed for mami over the adrenalin rush.
Khoob Jamegi Jab mil baithenge do yaar…
This was an absolute favourite of mine … the whole sequence was beautifully shot … fantastic post production work … absolutely lovely light play ( gandhiji mazaa aagya)… the whole placement of lighting so that ASR cudnt see the Bosses face was fab… the action here was really gud .. the guy desiginig the thrills is doing a good job must say.
But here one cant talk about this sequence if one doesn't comment on Dreamboats wonderful performance … very good … his need to reach the villain .. his cunning eye play … his fight & all was a treat to watch … Barun keep this up & Bollywood will be knocking the door boy …
A side note : Dreamboat looked wonderful … the vest does wonders for his frame … u must use more of ASR in vest
I am assuming u shot this scene in RM in Arnav's bedroom ... kyonki trademark grey wall paper dikh raha tha (don't mind me .. maybe i am just missing RM & ASRs room too much)
As we enter the most dramatic & action packed portion of IPK till date …it made sense to see what our Hotness was up against Shyam Manohar Jha … the villain of the piece …
At the time of writing this post .. I was in conversation with Sree & she got me thinking on Shyam bitwa …
So today lets c what makes Shyam tick ( or rather twitch 😉 )
So lets talk Shesh nag urf snakewa urf Shyam bitwa today : The villain in any serial has to be the clay character .. moldable according to the need of the script .. The success to any story IMO is the crafting of the villain … Just like Sholay is Sholay not because of Jai & Veeru but because of Gabbar … similarly .. our villain in IPK ( please note I am not comparing him to the iconic Gabbar at all) has to be multi dimensional .. has to be hated & has to be abhorred ( not to be read as Abhaas)
Shyam as we know him … has been portrayed as :
->Greedy
->Dishonest
->Coward ( today too he dint let ASR see his identity)
-> Can go to any extreme to get his way
-> A parasite... a man who wants to grow by living off others
-> Lethal because his evilness is hidden under the shroud of sweet talk
->Capable of cold blooded murder ...
I put Greed at the top of this list because this is the one constant in his character that has been maintained …
The Unshrouding of the villain happened ….with KHUSHI KUMARI GUTPTA entering his sphere .. He becomes greedy to get her in his life ( all indicators … he gives her his card.. keeps bumping into her .. meets up with her in Delhi)
Khushi becomes his Lust ( another dimension added)..
But here is where it becomes interesting ….. here is where the pattern is laid… his lust has never been over his greed ... he always wanted to practice bigamy ... he was not going to leave Anjali ( rather her money ) ever ... His Greed won over his LUST
Now if you look at the 2 most interesting aspects of Shyam's character they have been only briefly visited by the makers till date ...
One is his Absolute hell of temper ... a glimpse of which was shown during the rakhi seq ... when anjali asked him to tie Khushi a rakhi ... loved that he went out on the road & bashed a stray man ... uncontrollable rage ... when triggered. Now draw parallel to the time of KKG & ASR marriage .. again that day Shyam's anger new no bounds … again he stalked out on the road .. walking in the middle of a stormy road …. When he encounters ASR ..( most of us at that point thought maar dhaad to hoga) … but Shyam interestingly held back … if u go back & watch the seq .. u will see his dialogue delivery … was also very controlled .. like he was physically holding himself back.
At that point Once again Shyam controlled another aspect of his nature Anger for Greed .. Again Greed won over Anger
The other is his ego : normally a parasite like him should not have much of an ego ... but our man does ... the whole 40K thingy proves that ... the fact that he wants the whole property now ... shows that the man has as big an ego as ASR ... & today we got a brilliant glimpse of the same ... in the precap … His ego has been crushed time & time again by the Raizada wealth … a violent man should react … but he is waiting to attack he is planning an attack ( very bad at attack planning must say though 😃 ) … because once again his Greed won over his EGO …
Shyam's character … while shades keep getting unclothed ( pun intended) has remained constant throughout the time he has been shown as the villain of the piece.
Now look at the brilliance of the Creatives .. the two most important ( I call these important because we have only glimpsed these .. but will be most important to the story line) aspects of Shyam's nature .. His Mad Rage & His Ego … find a parallel in our Hero as well … both have monumental egos & both have monumental tempers … & when they eventually clash … it will be DABANG … They are so similar yet only one thing differs in them …
One is GOOD & one is EVIL
Look at how the story has been designed … the hero starts of the serial as the villain .. the villain starts of the serial as the hero … both have similar characters …. Then role reversal...
…The role reversal came about by a beautiful character called KHUSHI KUMAAARI GUPTAAA.
Kudos Gul & gang … oh BTW did I forget to mention … I loved the episode.
