He is a half baked cookie in that sense according to me!! He doesn't follow the societal norms but he doesn't restrict anyone from it and infact respects others opinion. It matters to him.

He is not bound by conventions.they stifle him and he follows them for the happiness of the two people he loves-his di and Khushi.he only follows what logic dictates except in the matters of his di and Khushi

For sure, but isn't that where we find his character changing. He may not be conforming to conventional society, but he sure isn't turning his back on them. And that's where the complexity of his character lies for. He's caught in this constant battle between self vs society - I find it fascinating

You're right, he may not be tied down by them, but he's still helpless to abide by them - to some degree of course. If he were to follow every rule in the book, he just wouldn't be ASR now would he! 😆
