Guys these are facts ...

We wish all the best to Barun Sobti but he will not leave IPKND ...

1. Out of all the movies released in a year, more than ninety percent can be put in the category of not successful or flop, and the rest are of an average nature. Many movies find it hard to stay in a theatre even for two weeks. Only a few movies are able to create a big impression on the viewers.

2. Most of the TV channels are making money, most of the producers of tv serials are also making money and so are the actors. Of course though the money is big, it pales in comparison with the money Bollywood Stars make ... but of the actors who try out ( if you take 10years time - all the major roles - lead & supporting roles, leaving out insignificant ) only 1% become stars

3. So the best strategy for successful TV actors will be
Try out for the big screen
Test the waters ... tread on slowly ... try 2-3 movies and then take decision.

4. It will be foolish to let the the golden goose fly away , in anticipation and hope of catching more exotic birds in the bush , which is still far away.

5. I think Barun Sobti will not leave IPKND at least for next 1 year , if the serial survives that long.

6. Sometimes a low budget and unknown director and unknown production house film may make big impact but most of such movies fade away and we don't even remember them. If you have some Godfather behind you, the sagging character may get revived again else you will also fade away...

7. Even if you are very good actor and very successful on small screen, this does not ensure success of your film. No one knows the formula but in general for a movie to be successful, more than actors you need very director also.

For every Shah Rukh Khan and Vidya Balan, there are Amar Upadyays, Rajiv Khandelwals etc.
Also if you see the list of successful Bollywood stars, only a handful had started their career on tv.

Good points.

It will certainly be smart for BS and other TV actors to think carefully about this.

But many TV stars, for example those you mentioned, get swayed by the fanaticism of their 'phunkhas' for TV shows and when approached for a movie role jump at it, leaving a field in which they were shining to tread murky waters.

Some feel that TV roles do not let them grow creatively; since pretty boy looks get them lead roles where most of their job is to gaze without going cross-eyed into the other lead's eyes, catch and rescue her from numerous falls and slips, and in general just pose for the camera so that the rabid fan base can be built.

The really smart person would see this for what it is: an opportunity to make oodles of money while the good looks last, and focus on some business venture/job/entrepreneurship in the post-acting phase.

I say this because more than 99% of actors in interviews come across as wanting to be in acting because they think they have good looks, a good body, and see themselves as the hero... or in a few cases, the good-looking villain.
This is vanity.

A true actor wants to just act... whether as a beggar, a soldier, a rickshaw driver, or father/mother roles.

Now, who is that mature, that smart, and that long-planning in their twenties to think far ahead for their very shaky futures if they remain in this field?
Remains to be seen.

brilliant brilliant👏👏 especially the red lines...best explanation to the actor... but nowadays money is all, other cums second dude...

In my personal point of view nowadays bollywood industry is not at all a place for acting, 95% they give preference to the glamour n all unwanted things n only very very few films have a story n make a impression...comparing to bollwood kollywood n mollwood r far better in giving such a nice films...

I agree with you, jayne. Unfortunately in India both - films and tv you have stereotypes and run of the mill stories. But slowly things are changing ... at least "jara hat ke" ( AND REALLY MEANT IT) films and programmes are also getting produced and noticed.

Agree with the post. To survive in Bollywood you need a Godfather and good backing and be prepared to "compromise". So far Shahrukh and Vidya Balan are the only ones who have been successful as lead actors but in addition to all the hard work, they also have had to compromise without going in to all the details and it is a fact. Vidya Balan has been successful but it has taken her many years to do that and now she is stuck in the genre of woman oriented roles but not the popular commercial Dabangg type movies. Prachi Desai, Rajeev Khandewal, Amar Upadhyay, Nausheen (kussum), Amna Sharif, Shilpa Anand, Karanvir Bohra, Karan Singh Grover, Ejaz khan, Iqbal Khan etc etc are the other examples who have tried but not been successful. Rajeev Khandewal has done some Quality films but at the end of the day they have not been hits and that is what matters.
