you are right. there are similarities but there are contrasts as well.
ASR is a self-made man, Devdas wasn't.
Devdas had a dominating father, ASR makes his own decisions.
Devdas couldn't accept his love because he wasn't brave enough to stand up against his family and society. ASR can't accept his love because of his own pride, ego and fears.

Oh my we were talking about this the other day!! Well he might not have a dominating father but he does have a dominating devotion to his sister which is much bigger than his ego. So we have to see where that devotion takes our Ar-das ...

I don't think Arnav will turn to alcohol, his defense mechanism is going to be to go forward with his engagement to Lavanya in hopes of forgetting Khushi but he'll be unsuccessful. I don't think Arnav will be able to hold his feelings in for much longer, sooner or later I believe Lavanya or Anjali will find out the truth
