I'm just writing all this after reading a bunch of these topics. I responded to this one in particular b/c the topic starter is a fellow American and she would know exactly what I was talking about when I spoke of American television standards.

A lot of the comments in this forum do blow my mind. This is the first Indian show I've ever watched and I find it hard to believe that people cannot accept what the writers are dishing out b/c it's not even remotely over-the-top.
As a person who lives in the States, I'm sure that you know what I'm talking about as well. I think every show on American television would be counted as immoral if we looked at it the way people are looking at this show.
I know we all enjoy IPKKND or else we wouldn't be on this forum. However, some of the things I read on here definitely give me a good chuckle. 😆
This forum has definite entertainment value, moreso than some of the episodes of IPKKND I've seen recently...hahaa 😆

Amen in blue!😃😃
I dont think "I" will make the assumption in red😃
Just like the gush-ers are stating a opinion
Others are also.😃
Like I said its all amatter of perspective
I didnt find Anu poking fun at any of the gushers👏👏👏👏👏👏
Its unfortunate that so many are trying to shut her up, by either saying
"Dont watch it any more"
"US shows are worse"
"Comments are ridiculous"
"Sensible opinions are amusing"
"Dont attempt to teach the CVs how to do their jobs"
I just am curious to know if the Forum is ONLY for gushing
If it is so, I would like the Mod to clarify that😃
I am 100% sure the CVs AND the production house WILL welcome honest criticism
They are in this business
Show biz is not all bouqets!

@ Nrp77, nice post.

Patience is a virtue that needs to be developed😃
I MEANT ASR, I corrected my comment
No thanks for jumping all over me
I am sure Barun did not mind the misquote😃

I am sure you meant ASR. I just made a comment, trying to have a discussion. Definitely not meaning to offend anyone or 'jump' all over anyone.

I will remember to not post when I am in a rush so my post does not look snippy in the future.😃

Seeing as it is not half as nutty and off-the-wall as the stuff we have here on television. Again, the sole purpose of this show is to provide entertainment to viewers and not to instill moral values in us. Most of us have parents who took care of that for us while we were growing up. Television doesn't raise children, people do...so I don't see where you would hold television responsible for upholding 'your' moral values. If that's what people are looking for, then they're looking in the wrong place. I can suggest watching PBS if that's the kind of stuff you want to watch as a viewer, but even then you may come across things that are not pleasing to you as a person.

As a lawyer, you should know that people like Shyam and ASR exist in this world and make for a wonderful story. A friend of mine is a defense attorney in the South and I promise that Shyam is an ANGEL compared to some of the people he has had to go to bat for.
Our day-to-day lives are busy and stressful so we like to escape reality for that short amount of time and read a good book or watch a television show. I think that IPKKND holds my attention due to it's storyline, even though it moves at snails' pace. I don't know why everyone wants to tell the writers how to do their job, but if people want a perfect story or a perfect character (which would be a snooze fest for my taste) then they should write one themselves. I'm not a writer by trade so I leave that up to the the professionals. The day I think I can do a better job at it than them, i will gladly pick up a pen and start writing. Until then I'm going to sit back, enjoy myself, and laugh at 80% of the nonsense I read from people in this forum. 😆

@Nrp77 Wonderful post. Honest, reasonable and logical. Supporting you as its totally my POV, more so in blue.😊 I watch it as an entertainment show, enjoying the story as it unfolds. Not the usual predictable tale to tell. Ofcourse the show has its own flaws as do its characters but how often do we find perfection in life? Love the little surprises writes have in store and love the director for doing a fabulous job of making the artiste emote so real, so well.
And ofcourse love our leads, for their awesome job and their sizzling on screen chemistry.
Looking forward to the ME ! cheers!

Gushers are actually pretty amusing as well...😆 Again, this entire forum has entertainment value for me. Anyhow, everyone is entitled to their opinions and I was definitely not trying to be insulting to the topic maker if that is what you are implying I have done. I am talking about the entire forum when i talk about comments I am reading. I hope you don't think I'm calling her comments ridiculous b/c that isn't my intention...nor am I telling her to stop watching the show all together. I did point out that if we are looking for shows that uphold our moral values, then we'd be hardpressed to find one. PBS is the only thing I can think of that may have things along those lines, but then again I've seen a few things that are pretty nutty on there as well. 😕
Also, America television is definitely worse as far as upholding moral standards for any individual, not just an Indian.
The one thing I've learned from this forum is that even when we try to have intelligent debates/ conversations, share our opionions, or comment on the opinions of others...we will knowingly or unknowingly offend someone. I guess we just have to take things with a grain of salt and remember that everyone has a different level of tolerance and may not understand our sense of humor or level of honesty. 😊
Note to topic starter : Apologies if you have taken anything I have said offensively since I am only sharing my opinions, as you have yours. As a mature individual, I think you can appreciate that. 😊

Its like saying "Murders happen in the real world, so the CVs are showing that"

Does that make murders legal?

Ofcourse not!

Its just a matter of perspective!

What Shyam is doing is a crime.

For being articulate and confident and intelligent, Khushi playing along with the crook is even more disturbing

What I dont understand is why the hurry to get KHUSHI married

Why does she call the other chick "DI"

Isnt she supposed to get married first?

Why cant SHE marry Shyam?

Why doesnt she get a job or do anything productive?

Hi Aditi,

One of the very important point you have mentioned is...since the real world has murders and evil events...the cvs think it's alright to show them. This is where I have a problem with the cvs... I agree that evil events should be shown for reality purposes... But I also feel that there should be a balance between crime and punishment or evil and good. Showing only evil and torturous events will not help the society if ppl does not feel or believe that goodness still prevails. A criminal cannot get away with crimes.

I hope the cvs have that balance in showing Shyam's endeavor.

Hello Nrp77,

You are entitled to your opinion as everyone else... and no you have not offended me...I work at a women's shelter and so I completely agree that there are worst men than Shyam. I interact with women with real issues. So you might realize that women issues are very close to my heart. On a daily basis...I interact with women who have been raped, battered, scarred,...and the list goes on. It's very cruel out there in the real world and I have experienced it personally. So when I write about women's issues or a request to the cvs... It's a personal cause for. I try to spread the word wherever I can.

To answer your question...yes, I am extremely open minded. I am a liberal in context of race, color, religion, gender, and everything that goes with it. But I'm sorry...I am not open minded when it comes to criminal acts. I am not open to constantly watching a girl getting man- handled, humiliated, insulted, shoved down on the name of status, power or money. I am not open minded when I see a wonderful and devoted wife being cheated by a criminal...I cannot stand it when a girl is forced into engagement and marriage. I cannot stand it when an employer is abused and her rights are mistreated and when she is asked to stand outside in the rain. The list is long... in a nutshell I am not open minded to any kind to injustice. It's my way of spreading the world.

Ofcourse, American television shows immoral stuff and I completely agree with it. That's why my children are not allowed to see anything other than discovery science and history channels. I usually watch free speech and link tv.

I hope you understand my pov too.

Absolutely understand and respect your POV. I think we care about the same issues. Not sure if you've heard of Apna Ghar, but it's a womens' shelter here in Chicago and I was associated with them when I was in college (about 15 years ago). To this day I believe they do phenomenal work. Though AG helps people of all nationalities, I would see many battered wives/mothers who barely spoke English and it broke my heart. Hearing their stories and meeting these women made this issue real for me as well.
Also, I'm sorry to hear that you have had to experience anything like this firsthand.
In the beginning I couldn't stand the character of ASR and it was mainly for the way he treated Khushi. I kept watching b/c it provoked some extreme emotions in me and I wasn't sure if it was seeing Indian people in this type of situation that did it, but I kept watching... Anyhow, I became hooked to the show and wanted to see what they would do next. It took me awhile, but I found a way to detach myself from the reality of the situations that this show portrays or else I don't think I'd be able to watch it without having heart failure... (I think American television has worked to de-sensitize me, for the most part, to the things I view). I actually like ASR now and don't bash his character the way I did when I first found this forum.
As far as Shyam goes...I think they're pushing the envelope on this one. They are going to wring this sponge dry before getting rid of it. I hang in there by telling myself that good will still prevail over evil in the end... I think the writers will relay the message you want them to, just not in the timeframe that you expect. 😊
Oh and it's definitely smart of you for not letting your kids watch the stuff they show on television these days. I tell my sister, all the time, not to let my nephew watch that stuff either. It may be okay for us as adults, but kids emulate the stuff they see so it's better to keep them away from these things for as long as we possibly can... 😊

Anu,
I cannot claim to have done as much as you have for this cause. But I applaud you for WANTING to see reasonable characters.
Admirable!😃😃👏👏
I am happy you stood up and spoke and did not ONCE dismiss the gushers
Thats extremely praise worthy
You and I may be more in love with the show than the gushers but thankfuly neither of us have resorted to a "us vs them" messaging.
I am with you in spirit in all your attempts to inject positivity and sense into the story
We should not condemn ourselves for wanting to see a GOOD story.
Some of us want more than a good looking pair eye locking all day long, or in a clinch all day long!
I have watched Indian TV for years and do not agree that "Indian soaps are MEANT to be meaningless and foolish"
Hope CVs will heed our request!
P.S. Good Luck with your work. Thank you for posting, I will make it a point to add my two cents when ever you do! For SURE! 😃
