When the show started,he was criticized to quite an extent and though I didn't agree with people who said he was expressionless even I thought that he needed to improve and of course he did but still I feel that there is something missing,he has to keep quiet most of the time and hence it is more important that he learns to convey what he is feeling without dialogues and through his eyes.
I am not saying he is bad because that would mean that I feel he spoils the scene which he does not.I am just saying that sometimes he is just average(harsh? lol I am sorry I was thinking of some other word and edited the sentence 2 times but couldn't think of anything else)

I don't think so. Barun is doing a very good job as ASR. It's not easy to emote without expressions and just stand there like a statue all the time. I don't think any current actors can emote ASR like the way Barun Sobnti does. This is not even about the chemistry aspect as Sanaya and Barun share sizzling chemistry, a chemistry that you see very few in couples on television, but I don't think no one can do more justice to ASR's role but Barun Sobti. He emotes so beautiful, each pain, each moment. His eyes express more than any words. He is not your regular college guy whose supposed to just dance around trees and deliver his line. His character has much more depth, much more emotions. Whether it's Arnav or SASR, he gives a new spunk to the character. As Arnav, he emotes more because it's his sister. He is close to her and does not have a throw a facade while as ASR, his character has many shades.

In many scenes , he directly overshadows Sanaya and Daljit in scene because he is that good. So I don't want to imply you are wrong or whatever, but majority audience will say that Barun Sobti is SO good that it is unbelivable. He makes the character of ASR and Arnav come alive litearly.

I actually love Barun Sobti as Arnav. He is just amazing.
I like his expression. He elites through his eyes so well and passionately. Plus he is supposed to give angry/blank expression since that is what his character demands of him. Although he emotes his expressions really well. If you see his scenes with Anjali he is totally different and caring. His expressions r amazing and as ASR he is angry and stone faced because to everyone other than his sister he is stone hearted. He is a man who has lost faith in god and the world. His emotions r caged and locked up. He has to keep a straight face with everyone because he thinks that if u show emotions towards someone UR showing UR weakness and UR exposing yourself. This is what hischaracter is demanding of him as of now. Even if you see him with Lavanya, he has no response towards her because that how he has made himself. Plus I think Barum is anamazing actor. He can act with his eyes which is very rare. His eyes carry so much depth and expression. If u seen his last show Baat hamari pakki hai, u will realize how amazing of an actor he is. He is versatile and is AMAZING as ASR. It's not his fault. He is doing what the character demands of him to the best of his abilities and even more. And he has already won so many hearts. Arnav character is meant to be ruthless, emotionless, and win-at-all-cost type. He is not UR regular chocolate collage boy next door. There is much more to him. And seriously speaking, nobody can play ASR better than Barun. He is outstanding. This is only my POV.

I really think Barun is trying his utmost best to please us with his performance! 😊 I just want to encourage him and i'm sure he's gonna do really well as the show proceeds further. For me, currently, he's doing a really awesome job at showing his emotions and how he feels even though he doesn't get to play around much with his facial expressions. It must be a tough job but his script demands it. Unlike characters like Khushi, Anjali, Mami and all the rest, Arnav doesn't get that freedom of expression. He's supposed to show this really tough exterior and no one is supposed to know what a gem of a person he is inside. Once that hard shell is broken i'm sure we'll see more variety in him.
Yet somehow we are still able to catch the care and concern he shows for khushi and the immense love he has for his di. All this is credit goes to barun! 👏
Hope you understand my POV. 😊 I know what you're trying to say here..Just give him some time😃

@TM: I am sorry that my very first post in this forum is one where I have to disagree with you but I can't help write out what I feel (i have been a silent viewer for too long and finally decided to join in all the fun).

I haven't watched either Barun or Sanaya before, this is the first time I have seen either of them emote. Honestly, I think they are both doing a wonderful job. Since this topic puts forward the point of view that Barun is still not that good as ASR, I am limiting my comments to Barun and his portrayal of the character ASR.

When Khushi slips and lands into ASR's arms the very first time and his gaze wanders to her lips and back, she realizes her arms are around his neck (and sees his eyes wander, but that could be me guessing) and shies away. His lips curl derisively and you can 'see' the sneer in his demeanor as he almost throws her away from him. Right from that moment, the character ASR walked, effortlessly, out of the screen and into my heart. After that there are countless moments when ASR is ASR and when ASR shows shades of Arnav, too many for me to list out here. And he has been true to each shade his character needs to depict. Honestly, I have become a fan of ASR (and the Arnav we see in ASR) and since the character has made me fall in love with him, the credit goes to the actor - Barun.

I haven't watched Barun's earlier shows but he comes across as fun loving and happy-go-lucky (and sweet) in the SBS segments, therefore I commend his portrayal of ASR, a character as different from him as chalk is to cheese).

Anyway, to cut my long story short, in my opinion, the character ASR has been defined superlatively by Barun Sobti. His style is perfect for the role, his diction is perfect for the character, his looks are utterly droolworthy, everything about ASR fits the character of ASR. And makes him so real for me. And that is why I feel that the actor portraying ASR is doing a fantastic job.

Now that I have said my piece, I would also like to add that Sanaya is lovely as Khushi. Khushi is adorable and the awesome chemistry that Arnav and Khushi share is testament to the superb emoting skills of both Barun and Sanaya. I cannot wait to see what the CVs have in store for us.

I do hope nothing I have said will offend you. You have your pov and I respect it. I just couldn't help stating my opinion as I really feel the character of ASR has been perfectly enacted until now. I am a total fan of both Arnav and Khushi. Both of them have taken over my life these days:-) saatschi

I agree with all Sunaina said.

You can't possibly be serious, and say Barun still isn't good as ASR? HE IS!! As he was Shravan (on BHPH). This guy can do comedy, drama, passion, romance and more! He's got a rare talent not every young actor can say he has! He never over acts or spoils his character.

There's more to it than his handsome appearance in his portrayal of ASR. Barun gives away a raw performance, but still manages to show us much more emotion and depth, even with just an expression in his eyes or the way he walks. The thing that seems very difficult to me, is that he manages to show 2 extremes of him side by side, without making it unrealistic. And the way he switches between those sides, with such ease! Cruel ASR is ASR, and the ASR who's looking at Khushi secretly, also ASR! 2 sides of him a very beautiful treat for me 😃 I love both of them..he's an angel and demon in 1 😆

In the beginning he was all cruel and very harsh towards Khushi. Now he shows a bit of affection towards her (carrying her everytime Khushi faints, which she does more often than is good for her). These last few episodes I also noticed ASR is changing for the better...very very slowly. Just look at the way he behaves when La is near. And when Khushi is near. Just like Sunaina said, he gave her a look when she walked out the mandir, as if he was saying, 'You know you're going to be mine...'

About the slow change in ASR, the character ASR isn't meant to change swiflty. That wouldn't be realistic. He's complicated. Barun knows that, we know this. He comes with a package, a history. He manages to keep that in mind, and not forget everything just because Khushi is near. ASR has protected himself with these walls around him, which makes him cruel towards everyone else except his sister. And now, Khushi. So...Barun is defo managing ASR and he gives away a mindblowing performance.

Just the way I look at it. Seriously, even if you don't like Barun, at least give him credits for his acting, because this guy is born to act! That's a fact.

@TM -

I think people are finding that your topic was not well intentioned. The title of your thread could have been 'Barun is not too bad as ASR' but instead you chose 'Barun is still not too good as ASR'. Both mean the same, connotation is totally different and I think it rubbed people the wrong way. People in the BHPH forum were well aware of the conversations around 'BS' that went on before this forum opened up, so I hope you can understand if certain people have hit the end of their patience with his criticisms.

Much in the way that you are a fan of Sanaya, I am of Barun. I think you have to understand the reason why people are bringing up BHPH, is because you are making a case that he needs improvement in expressions - and if you watch BHPH you will see it is not because he does not know how to do them.

If you go back and read one of Barun's interviews, he has said that he has to do multiple takes as ASR because he has to keep a straight face for everything. ASR is very difficult for him to play. Given this information, I think whatever shot and look we are given from the director on our tv screen is precisely the expression Nissar wants to portray in ASR. Or else why not give us the take where Barun shows a little bit of humanity in ASR. So I think, you might want to send something to 4 Lions asking them to stop shooting ASR as a man of stone...although, I believe that is exactly what they are going for.

I think we are forgetting about the director here and his hand in what we see. For example, we know Sanaya's acting ability - so why is it that so many of us felt that she was acting like a child, instead of the bubbly young woman she is supposed to be when she came to the Raizada house the first time and in her first day at the office?? (check back and see - topics abound on this). It is not that she is an OTT actress, the director quite obviously wanted to hit us over the head with what kind of different worlds ASR and Khushi came from.

I think I have been fair is my response to you and hopefully you will think about ASR in a different way. I also hope that if someone has criticisms of Sanaya's acting, everyone here who has said it is fair to critique actors will take it sportingly, although I have my doubts as what I have seen in this thread is that saying Barun is lifeless and blank is okay criticism/opinion, but someone's similar opinion saying Barun overshadows Sanaya is deemed unfair. (look back - you will see it)

I love this jodi because of their chemistry. Chemistry is not one sided. It can only work when the couple's acting complement each other.

Peace

Hmm, personally I like the way Barun's acting now a LOT. In the starting of the show, I felt there were bits which could be better, but that was totally understandable considering he's never played a character remotely close to Arnav. But have to give it to him, cause he's really gotten better, and sometimes he doesn't need loads of dialogues cause he emotes well with the eyes. I love the way he stares ;P rofl...
Yeah, he's not perfect, but no one is. Playing Arnav must be very hard and he's getting the hang of it. The best thing is he doesn't portray anger OTT-ishly. That's the best bit.

Honestly, veryyy few actors on TV currently could've done this role. And among the "options" that were being considered and suggested by people- none.

I agree somewhat with the TM ... I find it difficult to decipher Barun's expressions at times. I know he is supposed to be poker faced and hide what he's feeling, but his eyes should mirror his feelings. It's a very difficult role, so I don't blame him ... it's far easier to emote with the support of dialogues, and he has very few. But I often compare this with Gunjan of MJHT ... there Sanaya was the one who had very few dialogues, and had to emote through her eyes, and I never had any problem figuring out her feelings at all ... she was brilliant. Barun is getting there, but he's not there yet, and I for one, am often not able to figure out his emotions ... now whether that's bad acting or bad direction, I don't know. Like the scene when he looks at Khushi getting mad ... someone said he was looking smug, I didn't see that, but I could not decipher what he was feeling at all. On the other hand, when he touched her hand while taking the thaali, I liked him ... he held her gaze very firmly, and I felt that the touch was deliberate ... to challenge her to look back at him. So a mixed bag for me ... But he has great screen presence and that helps a lot.
