So, I just saw this post and I thought it was really interesting. I am just really glad this polarization is mentioned because it has happened in just about every indian show that I have watched. Actually this is one of the reasons I stopped watching indian shows (well almost stopped 😊). In these shows, there is never any depth to the characters. Despite what the makers say, they are all so superficial and 2 dimensional (including the goody two shoes female lead). The weird thing is that we all know that the characters aren't at all realistic, yet we still watch these shows.
What makes me very angry is that whenever they show a modern girl, they portray her as evil. As if girls who wear short clothes and have ideology consistent with the 21st century are all evil. That girl from dhond legi mazil was apparently terrible because she dated a white person- this is actually very ironic because in most shows that I have watched opposites attract and what is more opposite than an indian and a white person. I don't understand why make us out to be evil? Why cant there be a girl like me- a very modern girl who is very tolerant of other people, who is an atheist (its always the guy who doesn't believe in God maybe for a change it would be interesting if the girl is a nonbeliever or both of them), and who wears whatever she wants even if that's shorts. And I dont even hide my clothes from my parents or the fact that I am not religious (if you are open with your parents, then they will be open with you too).
If it was left up to the makers I would be an evil, manipulative girl. But the reality is that some days I am mean, some days very kind and other days in the middle. We need a heroine like that (the only heroine that i can think is nikki from DMG- she was a flawed/modern character. I liked her).
Oh and something else I have noticed is that nowadays the heroines are becoming very bubbly and talkative (stop copying kareena kapoor's character geet), which is just as annoying as the whole sati savitri thing.
They should show a girl who lives and lets live. A great way to live, and I bet a lot of the modern India would agree.
Oh and I dont know if I will watch this show anymore. The promos looked so good, but I watched the show and it was not good. A note to the makers- it is one thing for the male lead to be rude, quite another for him to manhandle the female lead in the second episode. I couldn't this happened. Another note- not all rich people are cruel, mean and arrogant. Pheww, done ranting. I just had to get rid of all the pent up frustration I had after watching this show. Oh well, now I can peacefully watch the mentalist. Cya
