deepa,

i think the snake as a cold blooded vicious animal, represents niranjan, but certain symbolic meanings of snake like renewal, mystery, wisdom, sexual feelings etc represent the effects of the circumstances on the relationship between aastha and shlok at that particular point.

you think baba will be reformed?!😃 why don't you kill me?!😛

lotus,

as divya said, many maharashtrian women wear that crescent bindi. laxmibai of jhansi is also a maratha. but kalindi is definitely strong willed and has a fighting spirit like laxmibai.😊

@lotus @priya @divya

as for the symbolism, shlok changed aastha's bindi from the crescent one to the one that resembles a full moon. the phases of a moon depend on the relative positions of the sun, the moon and the earth. a crescent forms when sun is not shining on the half of the moon that is facing the earth. a full moon happens when the sun is shining fully on the half of the moon that is facing the moon.

i always felt that the sun is shlok, the moon is aastha and the earth is anjali. i guess, it is important for shlok and aastha to be properly aligned to brighten anjali's world.😊

Hi Rekha,

Once again nice explanations of SNAKE symbol.

However, I interpreted the presence of Snake in two occasions slightly differently.

AS we all know, SNAKE has various meaning in various cultures/ religions/ psychoanalysis/ astrology etc.

Snake could represent fertility/ betrayal ( Garden of ADAM & EVE), Evil /, eternity/ wisdom/ destruction and rejuvenation/ etc.

Snake fear could be fear of ''phallic sumbol'' ( as per psychoanalysis), it could represent female genitalia even in a complex way in case of a male.

Snake could be symbol of desire ( Hindu spiritual world wise).

IN THE FIRST INSTANCE IN THE JUNGLE SCENE:

Aastha was wearing only SHLOK's shirt, her naked legs were visible through the net curtain and Shlok was lost in her . Not only he was staring at her, but also he was looking passionately at her bare legs visible underneath the net curtain, when he went to pick up some logs for fire.

SHLOK's look was FULL of DESIRE ( he first noticed the snake passing nearby Aastha - I interpreted it as his DESIRE. He ran to Aastha and showed her the SNAKE Aastha was scarred ( fear of Phallus i.e intercourse) and shut her mouth with his hand and the snake slowly passed away . He reassured Aastha by protecting from snake and her Fear of Phallus cooled down.

ON SATURDAY'S EPISODE:

Aastha's dance with rope ( rope represent snake)/ thinking about snake/ seeing snake/ fearing about snake holding and throwing snake:

Aastha was dancing with a rope seductively and drawing hubby towards her with a loose noose / thinking about snake in the car - all probably symbolizes Aastha's DESIRE ( Sexual) for her hubby and trying to draw hubby into her DESIRE.

Whenever she was in very close passionate contact with Patidev in the bed (at the time of kissing and getting up from sleep in hubby's arm at the middle of the night), she screamed on seeing snake - it could represnt her inherent childish fear of Phallic symbol ( intercorse). Probably she was not feeling very secured because of their separation and that might be the cause of her fear for PHALLUS ( that's why she was asking hubby just to hold her to close him and that would take her fear away!!!).

Ultimately she threw away the SNAKE and that means She would overcome her fear for PHALLUS by herself and SHLOK would understand her.

SATHIA...must say... Agree with you too...as even I relate the SNAKE... Mostly with.. SEXUAL DESIRE OF ASHLOK...and maybe the... ENEMY as secondary too.

hi swathya,
you explained in detail about snake as a phallic symbol. well done. obviously sexual attraction/ forbidden desire depicted through snake in all those scenes. animals are usually used to depict very primal emotions and sex is one of them. but i feel that there is also a hint about the story and characters in those scenes.

niranjan's background music is of a snake rattling its tail. so snake obviously represents niranjan. in the snake scene in the first jungle adventure, there is an eagle figurine behind shlok. like lion, eagle is also linked to sun. it is also associated with sky, fire and air. all of these are in turn linked to shlok. eagle represents awareness, wisdom, freedom, father, pride, victory and inspiration. there's definitely more underlying meanings than just sexual attraction/desire in those scenes.
