Shivaay devolving into a mindless spree of revenge today reminded me of that famous saying..."Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves"...feels quite fitting for what's to come.
Today's episode was again mostly building up towards Shivaay finally snapping and just the ending four minutes devoted to the beginning of his rampage...but still lots of food for thought in what unfolded.
Shivaay was already in a vulnerable state over Prinku when Daksh returned to spin a new web of lies. What I found interesting though was Shivaay's initial reaction to Daksh placing the full blame on Anika yet again...that softly uttered "Anika?" that slips out of Shivaay in disbelief when Daksh says it's all her doing...such a telling reaction...the Shivaay who until yesterday was vowing to make Anika pay for Prinku's state in that moment couldn't believe that she could have been behind D's disappearance...his initial reaction is instinctive...he can't believe it's her...until Daksh continues to pile on the theatrics and spin a compelling tale to plant the doubt in Shivaay's mind...interesting to note that even though Shivaay is shocked when Daksh makes the brazen claim that Anika was begging him to make her his mistress, he doesn't say a word...he's mostly listening in silence...as if mulling things over in his head.

Even after all this, he doesn't immediately move to do anything against Anika...his focus is still more on his sister, still broken over her state, begging her to wake up...until Daksh decides to overplay his hand...lol...perhaps he thinks if he doesn't keep laying on the theatrics enough, Shivaay might start to think logically and see through the loopholes in his story...so he again expands on Anika's desperation to marry any rich guy she can get hands on...lol in a conveniently placed dialogue, Daksh suddenly knows when and where Anika is marrying Nikhil and the fact that Nikhil supposedly has a new job so suddenly he's not a broke lawyer leeching money from Anika but a "respectably earning" guy who Anika has phasaaoed for moneyđđ
What's interesting in this scene is Shivaay's reaction ofcourse...moments before this he was crying holding Prinku's hand, begging her to wake up...but the moment he gets news of Anika marrying Nikhil, he goes utterly still, his eyes harden, change...and you know a switch has flipped inside him, something has snapped.
Meanwhile Anika on the other end is blissfully unaware of the storm to come and happily getting ready for her wedding...LOL there is such a strange disparate connection with this Anika in the redux...her only interest is to get married to the one guy conveniently available...all her joy is simply for the tag of being married and making that marriage her life...not for the person she will be with...it's not a concept I particularly connect with but it was nice to see her smiling prettily in that outfit.
And it was a sweet scene b/w the sisters with them doting on each other.
Today was also the most Anika has smiled at Nikhil...LOL simply cuz she was getting to sit in a mandap and get married...he was the instrument...she barely spared a glance for this guy when they got engaged and didn't even bother wearing his ring...but today was she was all but beaming at the prospect of shaadi...kis se bhiđ...Alas for her again, that was not the way it was meant to turn out.
Unhinged Shivaay finally rolls up in his car in full tadi to gatecrash this weddingđ...striding in with a crazed look in his eyes, upending some chairs as he advances too...lol this stuff was randomly making me laughđ
But what unfolded after this was on another level itself...the scene was interesting on many levels in large parts thanks to NM's TREMENDOUS performance of it...this isn't the first time that Shivaay has snapped...he snapped during the previous forced wedding too...but he was still in cold control of himself in many ways even as he went about threatening and blackmailing...but in this scene today, there was just so much subtext.
On one level, we had a Shivaay unhinged, in a blind haze of revenge, wanting to cause pain, suffering, humiliation to the girl whom he blamed for his sister's state...on another level we had a Shivaay who in his own twisted way couldn't bear Anika marrying someone else, and felt the need to both punish her and stake his claim on her.
It's almost funny on one level cuz many of the things he said are mostly true in a sense...she does love him even if she doesn't realize it yet and the question remains...why marry someone else over a "tiff"? LOL it's like the real Shivaay was asking that question of Anika instead of the AU Shivaay who technically doesn't know her. So it became a twisted game of half truths on his part too to spin a convincing tale of how they are in deeply in love and she really doesn't want to get married to Nikhilđ...so if she couldn't break the wedding, Shivaay had tođ
The level of theatrics from Shivaay thoughđđ...NM was just superb in this sceneđđ...so many nuances...the crazed, hollow eyes, red with a sheen of tears in them...the put on body language trying to play both the victimized jilted lover making an emotional plea and the cockiness of being "The SSO" to whom Anika belongs, dismissively flicking Nikhil away and telling him to shut up...lol

As he continued with his act, his voice seemed to keep taking on a higher pitchđ...I saw glimpses of Mahi in him in b/w too cuz the more outrageous stuff he said, the more he was taking on the body language of a mawaaliđ...none of the finesse or polish of "The SSO"...his tone when he said, "I'm sorry, Anika" also sounded almost squeaky even in it's mocking as if it was coming from some strange place inside him...being pulled out from a dark insane place inside him that just wasn't him...ditto for his final low blow implying they've spent many nights together...he used that same strangely high pitched tone while saying it that just didn't sound like Shivaay...at some moments he could barely meet her eyes too

Anika asking him why he's doing all this to slander her also produced an interesting exchange as he looked up at her briefly with a myriad set of emotions in his eyes and accompanying FBs showing the haze inside his mind...his sister's accident, Daksh's words creating a toxic mix...the accusation and pain in Shivaay's eyes here was again another brilliant touch from NMđ
Then he'd strangely be standing there trying to maaro tadi and I'd just crack up at the visualđ
All the flippancy aside, what I gather so far based on this episode and the upcoming per the precap is that Shivaay may have set out to take some form of revenge...a revenge not even properly thought through if I may add...a revenge that isn't coldly calculated, rather a product of churning emotions lashing out...meant to hurt her as he thinks she hurt his sister...meant to punish her, break her, decimate her self-respect...but as the saying goes...he is decimating himself along with her...if her character gets maligned, his goes along with it...if her soul is ravaged, so is his...if he leaves her a broken shell, he will be an empty shell too.
And the precap is testament to this...even though the final blow that leads to him marrying her like this will only be revealed on Monday, suffice to say, he is binding her to him in the most painful way possible and they are both ravaged by it...there is no satisfaction in this revenge anywhere even though he may have set out on a vengeful rampage...but he seems just as broken and dead inside as she does.
Waise can someone tell me why he was carrying her dupatta alag se over his shoulder?đ
They were mostly looking through each other for these rituals...their eyes staring out into space, glassy eyed, hollow, robotic...until the moment when he walks away from her trying to complete the varmala ritual...that is when she is animated enough to ask him again what he's doing...to which he delivers his final blow, lashing out with the last bit of venom left in him for the day...and leaving a deep, lasting cut on her soul.
Wherever the eventual attempt at the road to redemption may go...NM-SC are delivering some truly powerful acting in this track...major kudos to them for thatđđ
