Hello friends,
Next update below:
Drabble 7: "The world is full of obvious things which nobody, by any chance, ever observes.
Gauri was looking at Mr. Arora's study, opening drawers and checking for any clues that might help in the investigation, still thinking about the conversation she had with Shivaay a few hours ago, this morning. He had asked after her well-being and how she was doing so far in the new department, new case and most importantly, a new partner, i.e. Mr. Omkara Singh Oberoi.
What was she supposed to say? What did he expect to hear? After giving her no choice than to work with Sherlock and move to Mumbai, how did he think it was even relevant enquiring after her?' Gauri was upset; she had every right to be. And the feminist in her had questioned him instantly, "Will you be asking after Mr. Oberoi as well, sir? she had asked Shivaay, she felt she could talk to him even though he was a very senior superior colleague, somehow he exuded warmth and friendly aura she felt comfortable with.
When she had not answered him directly and asked a question instead, he looked concerned. "Would he have offered my previous job back? Gauri thought. "If he did, what would have been her answer?
"Yes, of course. Isn't that what she wanted?
Gauri was confused. Did she? And somehow, the answer troubled her, she didn't even want to think about it, forget voicing it. She didn't know anymore what she wanted. Gujarat and her department there seemed so far away, now that she had been working with Omkara for a few days, as a detective, not as a uniformed police woman.
Omkara was in the kitchen of the Arora household, looking for signs that could lead him to the murderer. He opened all drawers, carefully analysed the contents of the sink, the dustbin and the leftover food remains. He then picked up a few things with glove-clad hands and bagged them. He was distracted, recalling the conversation with him Shivaay this morning when he collected the search warrant.
"Did he want to continue with Gauri as his partner?" he was asked. After all, he was the one who has put the condition before Shivaay, that if this doesn't work, he would be allowed to work solo. This was his chance, all he had to do was say no to him and he would be free, to investigate how he wants, just him, no one to consider. Wasn't that a dream for him, after he couldn't find himself adjusting to others?
But Omkara was nothing, if not just and sensitive. He couldn't lie to himself that in the past few days/ weeks, Gauri had proved to be a brilliant detective and, if he cared to admit, an excellent partner for him. With Gauri often exceeding expectations Omkara couldn't bring himself to create situations that would impact her career adversely. Or perhaps, that was the lie he told himself, that he was doing anyone a favour but himself. And that's what he did. He told Shivaay that he was willing to give this partnership a go, for a few more weeks, for the sake of the department and the case they were investigating currently.
Shivaay couldn't have felt better about his decision, it was the obvious thing. And of course, but natural, Omkara and Gauri both decided to not mention the conversation with Shivaay to each other. So, it was settled. For now.
Whilst Omkara was still in the kitchen, picking up samples for who could have visited the household and known the Aroras and perhaps knew something about the murder of Mr. Arora and suicide attempt of Mrs. Arora, Gauri came there holding a jar, with what looked like human brains !
"EEK! What do you think you are doing Holmes? Omkara could not help feel disgusted.
"What am I doing? This reminds me so much of pickled cauliflower my granny used to make when I was little, so I thought I will hold onto the memory a little Gauri offered.
Omkara was about to throw up, he waved his hands about to warn her to keep it away from him, when Gauri took pity on him and kept it aside.
"Sherlock, I think, this professor was having an affair, I can tell just by looking at this house. And I found some weird appointments in his diary with some sort of code. She held a black leather cover diary to Omkara.
"Hmm, Holmes, you might be right, I also thought the same when I spoke with some of the neighbours earlier today. It seems a woman used to visit him regularly when Mrs. Arora was not around. This solidifies my hunch, that she now has a motive to try to kill Mr. Arora. Omkara blurted.
"Spoken like a true chauvinist. Aren't you being a bit biased towards Mrs. Arora? How does this finding point towards her, except a motive? I also found a manuscript in the bedroom, in Mrs. Arora's wardrobe, hidden away; I think the murder might have to do something about this? Gauri handed him a newspaper print book held together with clips.
Omkara quickly looked through it and sighed.
"This looks like a paper on advanced medical research which is then presented as fiction. But the question is, who does it belong to?
Omkara and Gauri both looked at each other as if suddenly a bulb had been lit in both their heads the obvious answer was staring at them.

They are close to solving this case - and what next for them - coming up !!!
